Build Week 2 – Back to Normal (Almost!)

After a disrupted Build Week 1 with training sessions all over the place thanks to the F1 Grand Prix, we’re finally returning to something that resembles normality this week. That means back to MSAC for Wind Trainer and pool swims, and a bit more stability in the schedule - although not without a few last tweaks, so be sure to check the updated timetable!

Here’s what’s different this week:
🔹 Monday 17th March – No open water swim at Elwood Beach due to poor water quality after heavy rain.
🔹 Tuesday 18th March – Morning Run Intervals will remain at Middle Park (Albert Park is still impacted by the GP bump-out).
🔹 Tuesday 18th March – Evening Wind Trainer is back at MSAC (BYO trainer - no hire options).
🔹 Sunday 23rd March – No coached session at Elwood due to Race #6.

From here, things should be back to normal!

Speaking of Race #6, this weekend marks the final showdown of the 2XU Triathlon Series at St Kilda. If you’re racing, this is your last chance to leave it all out on the course. If you’re not racing, we need your help! There are still spots available to help with tent set-up, race recon, TriKids support, and pack-down. These race weekends run on squad effort, so jump in where you can and help us finish the season strong!

Post-Race Celebration – You’re Invited! 🍹
After the race, we’re heading to Beachcomber in St Kilda from 4:30 PM to celebrate the season, swap war stories, and enjoy a well-earned drink together. Whether you’ve raced, supported, or just want to soak up the squad atmosphere, we’d love to see you there!

Housekeeping & Reminders:
🔹 MSAC Pool Closures are fast approaching - make sure you review your membership and adjust accordingly before March 31st. Details on how to update your membership are below.
🔹 Payment Details – If your membership payments have been failing, chances are your payment details need updating. No one enjoys those follow-up emails, so take a moment now to get ahead of it!
🔹 Wind Trainer Wars – Smart vs. Not-So-Smart – If you haven’t read Coach Gaz’s latest thoughts on whether you actually need a fancy smart trainer, you’re missing out. His latest piece is equal parts wisdom, controversy, and brutal honesty - so give it a read before you drop thousands on tech you don’t need.

This is our final push before we wrap up the series - let’s train hard, race hard, and celebrate hard! 💪💙💛

Race Weekend Helpers Needed – Let’s Make It a Team Effort!

It’s Race #6 of the 2XU Triathlon Series this weekend, and as always, we need a few extra hands to help things run smoothly! Whether you’re racing, spectating, or just keen to support the squad, we’d love your help at any of the following times:

🔹 Saturday – Tent Set-Up 🏕️ 8:30 AM
Help us get the squad tent and gear sorted for race day. The more hands, the lighter the load!

🔹 Saturday – Race Recon 🚴 7:00 AM
Helpers are always welcome to assist in leading the Race Recon session!

🔹 Sunday – TriKids Support 👧👦 Meet at TA Tent at 10:30 AM for a 10:45 AM briefing in transition.  The TriKids race starts at 11:00 AM, and we need a few volunteers to help keep things running smoothly.

🔹 Sunday – Tent Pack-Down 📦 From 11:00 AM
When the racing is done, we’ll need all hands on deck to pack up.

If you can help out at any of these times, just turn up and lend a hand! Your support makes a huge difference, and we appreciate every bit of it. Let’s finish the series strong, together! 💙💛

This Week’s Swim Sessions – Back to the Pool (Almost!)

After a solid block of open water swims, we were hoping to squeeze in one final session at Elwood Beach tonight, but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans.

🌧️ With over 15mm of rain in the last 24 hours, the EPA has rated the bay as "poor", meaning tonight’s swim at Elwood Beach is cancelled.

🏊‍♂️ Back to MSAC from Wednesday!
✔️ Wednesday 19th March – MSAC Squad Swim (AM)
✔️ Friday 21st March – MSAC Squad Swim (AM)

While it’s a shame to miss one last bay swim, let’s look ahead to getting back in the pool this week! See you at MSAC! 💙💛

Wind Trainer Wars: Smart vs. Not-So-Smart

Last week, we teased you with Coach Gaz’s unfiltered thoughts on wind trainers, and if you thought that was insightful, just wait until you read the full masterpiece he’s put together.

🚴 Smart trainers vs. regular trainers - do you really need the bells and whistles?
🔥 Why your improvement comes from YOU, not your gadgets
💰 Why spending under $200 on a basic wind trainer is actually the smartest move
😤 A not-so-subtle rant about Zwift and why riding indoors doesn’t mean what you think it does

It’s classic Gaz - a little bit of wisdom, a little bit of tough love, and just enough controversy to get people talking. Do yourself a favour and give it a read!

After reading it, if you still want to drop thousands on a smart trainer… well, Gaz will probably have something to say about that too. 😉
