It's the weekly read that everyone waits for!
Stay up to date with all the latest news, hear from athletes, find weekly specials and get the lowdown on all important weekend sessions

RACING IS BACK AT BRIGHTON

brighton-swim-start

Another week…. another race.  Seems like we are on a bit of a roll at the moment.  Let’s just hope the forecast keeps getting better for the weekend!  We’ll have our short course athletes smacking it out in Brighton for the first time at this venue for many and our long course athletes hitting their peak weekend (again) for IM Geelong 70.3.

I feel only a little bit offended that it seems peeps like to ‘skim’ over the newsletter ☹ Good for use of time, good for missing important details.  Big claps to Mario (I know…Mario!!!) who must have read all the finer details - he made it to the run session, in the new location and on time!!!  Can’t say that was the case for many others.  But from this I will learn to keep it shorter and sweeter!

We are making a change to combo sessions for this week.  Thursday night we will all head to Green Point, for short course combo, long course combo and the run intervals sessions.  This will also be the venue for our Saturday morning race recon.

Long Course athletes, this weekend you will be training with Greg from Elwood on Saturday at 6am, but your sessions on Sunday will be uncoached, as he is Race Referee (aka Head Honcho) for the 2XU sprint race. Use the FB group to organise your training buddies to get the sessions done.

Albert Park Lake road closures are affecting both our Tuesday morning run and Thursday morning Hot Laps sessions.  We have alternatives for both, but you need to read below for where and when these are happening!

In this edition, we also have all the race prep links and info you need to get you through this weekend.  From entries, to trisuits, to laces now on the TriShop and the important Kids race callout…we have it all in one place so it’s easy to find.

And finally, one for the diaries. If you’ve been waiting to try out a pair of ONs, then you don’t have to wait much longer.  We will have the ON Team down at Elwood Thursday week (18 March) with the wear test kit for you all to have a play.

Albert Park Road Closures

The Hot Logs session run last Thursday morning was a success, with coaches and athletes able to get in just as many kms and at the same intensity as always.  Yes, there are two hot dog turns...but what do you usually do in a race....a hot dog turn.  So there goes that excuse!

Hot Logs will continue, starting at 5:45am from the front entrance of MSAC on Thursday morning, for those with it on their programs.

As with any session, an evaluation of the conditions (weather, traffic, hazards) are always made at the time, and if necessary the session will be moved to somewhere appropriate.

Click on this link below to see the course riders will take on Thursday mornings.

Albert Park Lake Alt Meeting Point
Change to Tuesday Morning Run Sessions

Given the difficulty in easily accessing our usual meeting point for run sessions, we are going to switch things up for a while.  We are moving to the north end of the lake on Tuesday mornings, until all road works are complete.  This will allow ample parking (and free up until 8am) for everyone, in the VIS car park.

Coaches will meet you at Coot Picnic Area.  We have all been there before, you will know this part of the lake well, but if in doubt….Google it!

We want Long Course athletes there for a 5:45am start, with main squad and Try-the-Tri athletes ready to run at 6am.

New Location For Combo This Week

We are going to hold our Thursday night and Saturday morning combo sessions from Green Point at Brighton Beach (right next to Brighton Beach Gardens) this week.  Here’s what you need to know:

THURSDAY night training

Who: everyone!
The SC will begin with a run and then swim afterwards with Coach Steph.
The runners will base their session from here and hit the trails with Coach Gaz.
LC will meet Coach Greg here and then head down to water.
Coach Ollie will be working with TTT#5, both on the beach and on the trails.
It might be a good idea to leave the bulk of your belongings in the car.

Where: everyone meets in the Green Point car park to receive a briefing from their coach.

When: 6pm – don’t be late!

Why: it’s great race recon in preparation for Sunday.  It’s good for others to get out of their comfort zones and embrace different conditions.  The trails are brilliant for building strength.  And why not?!?!

Bikes: No.  There isn’t the scope to utilize these so we will stick with swim/run.

SATURDAY morning training

Who: Short Course only!  This is your race prep session.

Where: everyone meets in the cark park of Green Point.  You may not be able to drive in, so you can park nearby and cycle down. You will be riding first anyway, so come prepared.  Leave bags, and belongings in the car initially.  Once you get back, meet on the grassy area, where you can leave your bags whilst you run.  This can be followed by a swim.

When: 7am – don’t be late!

**LC ride is still leaving from Elwood at 6.00am, with Coach Greg.**
