WE CELEBRATED IN STYLE

TA-Award-Winners

What a fantastic night we had celebrating the 2017 – 2018 triathlon season.  100 of our nearest and dearest gathered at Top Paddock to acknowledge the efforts, achievements and accolades of our Tri Alliance family.  The atmosphere and camaraderie in the room was heart-warming and I received many comments about how happy, welcomed, supported, positive and included everyone felt.  We certainly have something special going on right now and it is clearly palpable.  What an amazing group we are a part of and that comes from each and every one of you!

We’d like to thank you so much for coming along and making it one of our best night’s yet.  We’d also like to send a special shout-out to all our award winners, including those athletes nominated for each award.  Check out the details on the link below.  We also want to acknowledge all our squad results from 2XU series place getters, State Series awards and World Champ qualifiers.

And, in case you missed it, take some time to check out the athlete Thank You video that was presented on our awards nights.  We appreciate all the effort that went in to making this happen and were in stitches watching some of your videos.  Well played Team!

We'd also like to officially congratulate Steph and Sheridan on earning their spot in the ITU Age Group World Championship team to compete on the Gold Coast in September and Andy Wood-Rich for an epic Ironman Australia.

There's Winter cycling, timetable updates, communication reminders, a Propel up for sale and a special offer from Orca that's too good to miss!
This edition seems to be jam-packed once again, so time to get on with it.  Hit the links, absorb all the info and be in the know for the all the Tri Alliance happenings.  Read on, team!

#AdventuresOfSharkAndSteph

A year ago, I told Ollie that one day I wanted to wear the green and gold. I didn’t know if it would be the coming season or later down the track, but I wanted to do it. I’d looked up times of previous World Champs to see if this was even remotely possible for me and I could see it wasn’t completely out of the question. I’m a big believer in “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and that it’s possible to achieve anything if you put your mind to it; and one of the greatest things is that Ollie believes that too.

WEEKEND ROUND UP

ironman-australia
Ironman Australia & Busselton 70.3

First over to WA, where due to the prevailing and forecast weather conditions on race morning, IRONMAN Oceania made the decision to "eliminate the swim leg" and replace it with a 3km run. Athletes still started in their age group waves, but in a rolling format. So once again, it was duathlon time in Busselton.  Unfortunately, Richard May made the decision to withdraw late last week, due to ill health so his 70.3 journeys continues on.  Wishing you a speedy recovery, Richard.

And in contrasting weather conditions, Andy took on Ironman Australia, in what proved to be an epic battle of mental toughness and true athlete grit.  You should definitely read his recent post, describing his toughest IM challenge to date.  But we also wanted to share Jo's thoughts, who summed it up beautifully:
"Your boy had 4 flats on the ride taking today's total flat tyre total to 5.....that said, there are a lot of people who would have broken down and given p after at least the second flat, but like I have always said, stubbornness and determination he has in absolute spades.  It will be about the only race where he will be excited to finally be on the run....he is one tough dude.  He is out here and making you and Tri Alliance proud!!"

COMMUNICATION

Great Communication Begins With Connection
I bet we've all had one of those moments when you feel like everyone else knows what's going on and you're like...ah...what the?  Or when you turn up for something, only to realise you've missed the memo that the meeting point/start time/venue/etc has been changed.  And we've had times (Monday night was a great example), when session details need to change at the last minute and we need to communicate this with you ASAP.  Well, all we can say is GET CONNECTED.  If you are not following the Tri Alliance Vic Facebook page, then you are missing out.  We will usually use this avenue for any immediate communication, so it is a good idea to not only like the page but to receive notifications as we post.  Do this by adjusting your notification settings under "Following" on our FB page (highly recommended).  You should also follow the TriAlliance Instagram page and of course, be signed up to receive our newsletter each week (which will be coming out on a Thursday from now on)!  We can't make it more simple than that.  Be connected to be in the know.

How Can I Ride When It's So Cold?!?

“There’s no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing choices.”

When you’re riding on a cold, wet and windy day, you want to be as warm and as comfortable as you can. This is a guide for those new to Winter riding, to help you avoid learning from a very cold and miserable experience of your own!

FYI - The Winter Cycling stock has been updated in the Tri Shop and there's plenty of women's gear in particular to keep you warm and toasty!!

Thursday Night's Have a New Venue

It’s time to kick start our Thursday night run sessions.  These will now be held at The Tan, a track around the around King's Domain and the Botanic Gardens.  Our winter run sessions are great for breaking down your stride, working on your technique and building strength from the ground up.  This session is for ALL athletes and will include technique, hills and interval running.  We meet at 6:10pm next to the trough, opposite the Swan Street Bridge (you can also Google “Pillars of Wisdom” and it’s close to there).  Be ready to start the warm up at 6:15pm, otherwise you may miss the group.  It’s a good idea to bring appropriate layers as it can get quite chilly.

ALTERNATE SESSIONS:
The General will also be running 2 additional sessions over the winter months.  Starting this week, you can meet at the Essendon Rowing Club (Car Park) at 6:15pm on a Thursday night, for a run session along the Maribyrnong River.  And each Sunday (beginning 20th May) you can meet at the Fairfield Park Boathouse (Car Park) at 8:00am for a long run session.  Come to these run sessions prepared for technique, functional strength and stretching activities....and the dulcet tones of The General!

TRAINING CAMPS

Triathlon Training Camp
Hard Work & Training - No Secret Formula

One of the best things to do over winter is to get strong!  And one of the best ways to do it is with an intensive hit-out at one of our camps!  You get to surround yourself with like-minded people, live and train like a pro and forget about all the other worries of the world while you eat, sleep, train, repeat!  We've got 2 camps coming up - Lorne Camp on the Queen's Birthday long weekend and Thanyapura Thailand Camp at the end of July.  More information to come, but time to start thinking about how you'll make gains this winter and #GainTheEdge
