Welcome to Build Week 2 in our 3-week program periodisation cycle! After successfully completing Build Week 1, you might be feeling a bit fatigued from last week's efforts, but also starting to feel stronger. This is the perfect time to focus on the week ahead and give your best effort to round out the cycle. Commit to the program, stay consistent, and keep pushing towards your goals.

Reflecting on last weekend, we had an incredible ride to the Dandenongs. Coach Ollie was truly impressed with everyone who took on this challenging ride. These tough winter rides are invaluable for building both physical and mental strength, and those who braved the elements will surely reap the rewards. Equally, ask anyone who was at Hot Laps on Thursday morning how good that session was!  One of the BEST sessions this season, we hear.  Don't miss out on these opportunities to build strength, especially on the bike, during the winter months.

Speaking of riding, I’ve included an article about cornering on the bike in this week's newsletter. I came across it recently and had to share it with you all. It contains excellent tips and information that will not only make you a safer rider but a faster one too. Take some time to read through it and enhance your cycling skills.

Now, onto some exciting news! Juliet Cooper raced Challenge Roth yesterday, and from all the tracking data, it looks like she had an outstanding performance. Challenge Roth is a demanding event, but the crowd support is unparalleled. We hope Juliet has created many magical memories from her day.

We also had several other athletes competing over the weekend, both locally and interstate. The Rapid Ascent Trail Run Series hosted Race #2 in Anglesea, and the Gold Coast Marathon event featured races of all distances. Congratulations to all our athletes who participated and represented Tri-Alliance with pride.

On another note, have you heard about AusTriathon? They are offering numerous membership benefits. If you’re interested in becoming a member, you receive a discount as part of Tri-Alliance. Their system can be a bit complicated, so please reach out to me if you need any assistance. Check the newsletter below for more details on AusTriathon and how it can enhance your triathlon journey.

We hope everyone has a fantastic training week ahead. The coaches are looking forward to seeing you at the sessions and supporting you as you continue to strive towards your goals.

Juliet Shines at Challenge Roth

Juliet Cooper has completed the iconic Challenge Roth 2024 with a remarkable performance, and we couldn’t be prouder of her! The race day presented calm and perfect conditions in the water, allowing for a smooth start to the day. However, the bike leg proved to be quite challenging with wet roads from steady morning rainfall. The course, far hillier than one might expect, demanded resilience and strength, with constant rolling climbs and only one relatively flat section offering brief respite.

Juliet powered through the 3.8km swim in 01:39:19, tackled the 180km bike ride in 06:49:33, and completed the 42.2km marathon run in 05:18:44. Her total time was an impressive 13:58:17, placing her 82nd in her age group. We believe this is Juliet’s new personal best over the ironman distance, and we’re eagerly awaiting her confirmation once she has had time to rest and recover from this epic adventure.

Juliet’s determination and dedication have truly paid off, making this a once-in-a-lifetime experience she was eager to tick off her bucket list. Her coach, Greg, couldn’t be prouder, "Well deserved time as she has trained hard and consistently." We are all incredibly proud of Juliet and her efforts – she has truly done herself and our squad proud.

Weekend Racing

Over the weekend, athletes took part in some fantastic events both locally and interstate. At the Gold Coast Marathon, runners from around the globe gathered to tackle this world-class marathon. Despite the wet and windy conditions, the famous flat, fast, and scenic course did not disappoint. Our athletes participated across various events and reported being thrilled with their performances.

Closer to home, the second race of The Trail Running Series by Rapid Ascent took place in Anglesea. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Great Ocean Road, this race featured courses ranging from 4km to 29km, offering something for everyone. Despite a few injuries picked up earlier in the week, our team pushed through and did an amazing job on race day.

Well done to everyone who participated! Let's keep embracing these opportunities and challenging ourselves in new events.
