STAY STRONG

Elwood-Combo-Training

Winter is well and truly here and it’s making staying at home all the bit easier...which is very lucky given the circumstances we find ourselves in, once again! Lockdown 2.0 and Stage 3 restrictions come into effect as of midnight tonight and with that comes a pause to our face to face sessions.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom! We had a great group attend our run time trial last week at Albert Park Lake. Congratulations to all who came, there were a number of PBs and plenty of happy, satisfied faces at the end!

Consistency and commitment is certainly paying off in strength for many and following the FTP test and run TT, hopefully this has refuelled the motivation tank and inspired many to continue training and build on the gains that have already been made.

This week is build week 2 so there’s never been a better time to keep building strength! We will return to our full Go Virtual program and with the closure of pools and stay at home orders, the dryland swim sessions will keep you strong, our Zoom and Zwift windtrainer rides continue, and the chance to check in with a coach before your run will help to keep you motivated and accountable!

Don't forget to use this time to take a reset if you need it, be kind to yourself and do whatever it is you need to do to stay happy and healthy. To help you do so, this week we have included a lockdown tip, a video from Global Cycling Network, a reminder to visit our friends at Lakeside Sports Medicine...and if that's not enough good vibes and motivation to keep you going then read on to our much loved Meet the TA Family where this week, we introduce to you arguably our happiest, most positive TA family member!

As always, don’t forget to reach out if you need some support or someone to connect to during this time. If we continue to look after and support each other, we will all be stronger for it.

GROUP SESSIONS

online-wind-trainer-session

The re-introduction of Stage 3 restrictions brings our face to face sessions to an end for at least the next 6 weeks. But this doesn't mean you are alone, our full Go Virtual timetable remains with the opportunity for coaching and connection with fellow athletes across more than 12 sessions per week!
*Please note, our virtual run sessions will return from next week, keep an eye out for an update on when this is live.

Remember, when looking at your program in CoachingMate, if you see a time assigned to the session, it will mean there is a Go Virtual option for an online session.  If you do not see a time assigned, it does not mean the session is not on, it just means you cannot join virtually.

Overview:
Monday – Dryland swim (Go Virtual) + Flex (Go Virtual)
Tuesday – Run Intervals (Go Virtual - not in recovery week) + Wind Trainer (Go Virtual) + Flex (Go Virtual)
Wednesday – Dryland swim (Go Virtual) + Strength (Go Virtual) + Flex (Go Virtual)
Thursday – Hot Laps (Zwift - not in recovery week) + Run Intervals (Go Virtual) + Flex (Independent)
Friday – Strength (Go Virtual) + Flex (Go Virtual)
Saturday – Ride (Go Virtual & Zwift) + Flex (Independent)

LAKESIDE SPORTS MEDICINE

Don't forget our friends at Lakeside Sports Medicine are still open; there’s never been a better time to pay them a visit! Make the most of the opportinity to give some attention to any niggles, rehab old injuries, strengthen your weaknesses and touch base with your physio to put a plan in place to come back stronger.

Lakeside are running as normal, except with temperature checks on arrival and extra cleaning processes in place to ensure the health and wellbeing of all of their patients, and their staff, plus a new virtual consultation option!

Remember, if you have any COVID-19 symptoms, please visit the closest testing station and do not attend the clinic. Clinicians cannot see you until you have been cleared.

TOP TIPS

Race Day Checklist
What will you do in lockdown?

If you’re feeling a bit bummed about heading back into lockdown, that’s completely normal and understandable. If it’s taken the wind out of your sails, try this little tip...

Write a list of every lockdown-friendly activity, task or goal that you didn’t quite get to last lockdown, or that you have been thinking of doing but are yet to do. Nothing is off limits, be as creative as you can, step outside your comfort zone (from the comfort of your own home!), and be brave enough to challenge yourself.

See how many you can get...Coach Steph got to 20 in her first go, that's more than 3 per week for 6 weeks - between that and training, time might just fly by!

Over the next week, see if you can get more than 20 activities and if you feel like sharing, send your list or some of your ideas to Coach Steph. A list of the best suggestions will be shared with everyone next week!

Triathlon is a tough sport. Everybody has times when they lack motivation to get into the pool, on the bike or out for a run. Whether that's caused by bad weather, illness, or even a Pandemic; it can be really challenging to keep motivated to train.

The Global Cycling Netwrok have some great tips to help you stay motivated through these trying times...with the most important reason for trying to keep training at the moment being for your mental health and well-being.
