THIS WEEK IS YOURS...OWN IT

thailand-riding-paddocks

Our hard-working athletes are currently making the trip home from Thailand.  Tired…but with considerable experience, training and data gains under their belts.  As Juliet has recounted, “10 day Thanyapura camp: 350km ride , 86km run, 16km swim”.  No doubt we will hear more from them over the coming weeks, particularly about their time, but also about the impact it has made to their performance.

Speaking about performance, we hear Coach Gaz was VERY impressed with his group of riders over the weekend.  The course they took down to the Mornington Peninsula is no mean feat and it sounds as though this small group of dedicated athletes are listening to advice and learning that strong bodies are made in winter.  There won’t be time to play catch up in race season.  You should be putting in the hard yards now!

But first... we recover.  That’s right, Recovery Week has swung around again.  Time to let your bodies recuperate and rest.  And as we know, sleep is the body’s chance to get ahead and put all that recent training stress to work.  Don’t forget we had that recent article with sleep tips from our athletes if you need some help.  And what will also help, is sleep ins Tuesday and Thursday this week – no morning sessions.

This week would be a good time for all our female athletes to participate in a research study.  I recently completed a short course on Supporting the Female Athlete, and this very topic was central in advancing my knowledge and skills in the areas of training, nutrition and injury prevention for female athletes. The study is looking to improve understanding of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) among female endurance athletes.  I highly recommend you give it a go, as this will benefit us all in the long term.

Last week, the 2XU Series officially opened for registrations.  The request for the TA password has been a little quiet, so I’m guessing that you are seeing value in entering from 1st September.  Your annual membership grants you 20% discount off these races regardless of when you enter.  Just make sure you take advantage of it by requesting the password.  We want ALL OF YOU as part of the team and registered under Tri-Alliance.

And finally, a last call for Queenscliff camp.  At this stage we don’t quite have enough people to make this camp viable.  It’s a cracking camp, in a great location and the perfect time to begin to start thinking about racing.  We get the TTs out, ride along the coast, swim in the ocean and run the trails.  We’re making it super easy by having everything provided for you.  All you have to do is turn up and train!  Please let us know ASAP if you are thinking of coming via the expression of interest form below.

Have a great week everyone!  Train smart - train safe!

MESSAGE FROM THE COACH

Super Effort

"Congratulations to the people who came out Saturday morning (Tam, Alex, Bas, and Steve) (oh and me of course) 90km with hills!  These people can now count Overport rd, Two Bays rd, and the rather unpleasant Bradford rd, not to mention Beleura hill and other little nasties, among their accomplishments!  Tough long ride with all still smiling at the end (except me but that doesn’t count).  4+ hours in the saddle with me for company, great effort!"

Queenscliff-Camp
Pre-Season Camp in Queenscliff

Get race ready with a spike in training in Spring over three days.  It's the perfect launchpad into the new racing season.

Located along the stunning Bellarine Peninsula and situated on the waters of the heads, Queenscliff boasts terrific terrain for cycling, picturesque run trails along the coast and swimming in a beach that offers a variety of surf and flat waters.

Our combo sessions will be in full swing, with the preseason camp aimed at race-specific training, including all triathlon fundamentals and transition practice.

Groups will be split into race goals.  So whether you’re short or long course, opting for Olympic, Sprint or Fun during the coming series, or lacing up for Busstleton in December – there is something for everyone.

This is a whole team camp, so all levels are encouraged to attend to gain a final training spike before jumping into our preseason preparation phase.

Head HERE for even more details. Please note the price will need to updated for 2022 to reflect 3 full day camp.

We can only go ahead if we have enough numbers so we are seeking expressions of interest ASAP.
