I joked at training last night, that we might be headed back to almost daily communication from us, as we navigate this new round of uncertainty. So here we are, the second email blast for this week and I dare say there will be more to come. For that reason, we will hold off on sending a weekly newsletter as such, and instead opt for shorter updates as they are necessary. I’ll apologise upfront for the increase in emails in the short term, but also recognise the importance of keeping you updated with information as soon as it comes to hand. Let’s begin… The first change in our timetable for next week will be to our squad swims. Initially, MSAC had advised that they were continuing to run with a summer timetable for this week only. However, due to staff shortages, they have now informed us that they are continuing with reduced opening hours until at least the 24th January (subject to change). What this means for us next week: Monday 5.45pm – 7pm Wednesday 5.45pm – 7pm Friday – 6am open water swim at Elwood (only for long course athletes. Those racing on Sunday should be following their taper programs)
We will provide more info about the following week when we have that confirmed.
Next up is Thursday morning riding. Hot Laps around Albert Park Lake is needing to be changed for the short-term. This is due to more resurfacing works being undertaken in preparation for the Grand Prix and the track currently being out of action. We are suggesting two options going forward. There will be a bunch ride leaving from the front entrance of MSAC at 5.45am, heading along Beach Road, for an hour of power! Alternatively, there will be a virtual course set on Zwift that you can complete online. Please get in touch with Coach Greg if you require the Zwift invite or meet Coach Ollie for the 5.45am roll out.
And lastly is relevant only for our Long Course athletes. If you are currently subscribed to a Long Course membership and you don’t see a program, it’s because they have been recently updated and there are now several planner options, specific to race goals. If this relates to you, open your CoachingMate app, select ‘Planner Options’ and choose the appropriate program. If you need/want to change your athlete level (beginner, intermediate, advanced), please get in touch with one of the coaches who can help you do this from our end.
We understand that COVID is beginning to, and will increasingly, impact many of you, either directly or indirectly. It’s imperative that if you are feeling unwell in any way, are considered a close household contact, or are awaiting test results, that you do not attend any sessions. You do not currently have to wear masks at the outdoor sessions, but we encourage athletes and coaches to feel free to do so if you feel comfortable. And do get in touch with us if you have concerns, or you test positive, so that we can support you as needed.
We'll be in touch again next week, with hopefully positive news that race weekend will go ahead as planned. Until then...stay safe! |
