BACK TO REALITY

weekend-riding

And back in to the swing of things!  Our intrepid travellers have returned, with many a tale to tell about their time at our Thailand Training Camp (which was amazingly fantastic and highly-successful) and will be readjusting back to the ‘normal’ routine after living the life of a PRO athlete for the past 10 days. It’s amazing what kind of training can be done (and gains can be made) when all you have to think about is eating, sleeping, training, recovering and a bit of sun baking!  Their time away is covered in both the Weekend Wrap Up and the Ambassador’s Antics this week.

As for the rest of us, it’s back to the grind with the beginning of Build Week #1.  You should see the intensity rise a little in the programs and the return of the Kinglake Ride on the weekend (get in touch with us ASAP if you don’t have a program or need a reminder on how to see it!).  This is always the time where the big C rears its head….there is nothing on just being CON…SIS…TENT!  Get up, turn up and show up to train.  This already puts you ahead of most of the pack and this simple (and often repeated) lesson is as old as the ages.  But we all know the irony… sometimes you can’t be told, you have to experience it for yourself!  Hopefully you’re well and truly on that path now and are seeing the benefits of this basic principle.

Speaking of consistency, it was so nice to see so many TA kits out and about over the weekend.  And I’m not just talking about the take-over of Mornington either (not sure if it was meticulous planning, well-timed execution or just a plain fluke, but all 3 groups converged on the same corner at exactly the same time!) but there were also TA riders out on Sunday morning taking in the sunshine and howling winds.  Some may say this was an even bigger achievement given they had no packs to hide amongst and all effort came from their own engines.  I saw you!  It was acknowledged, so well done!  And on the bandwagon of commendations, let’s all take a moment to recognise the MVPs of last week: Rash, Geoff, Barry and JP who smashed out their FTP test in style!  Well played boys.  And for everyone else, let’s just say The General is looking forward to ‘catching up’ with you all soon!

We’re so excited about the new hoodies that are in the pipelines!!!!  We are in the pre-order phase and half way to the minimum number needed to go ahead.  If you’re thinking about getting one, we really need these processed so we can go ahead ASAP.  As soon as we have enough, they’ll be here in 2 weeks, so you won’t have to wait very long.  Perfect for keeping warm before and after a session in this beautiful Wintery weather of ours….oh and ever-so stylish!

There’s a couple of upcoming events that also need your bookings: TA Team Meeting, Chick’s Bike Night (yes, you read that right….just for the chicks!) and Movie Night this week.  We’ve also got a couple of notes about morning training sessions, Kezza’s shoe drive, Race #1 of the Duathlon Series this weekend, MSAC’s 21st bday celebration, pre-loved kit looking for a good home and an interesting article from Lakeside Sports Medicine Centre about the different between Acupuncture and Dry Needling.

That seems like it’s enough to keep y’all entertained for the week.  HUGE thanks to those people who have contacted me over the last couple of weeks…you know who you are and it was very kind of you xxx

Nothing left to do, but   R…E…A…D    O…N…!

Our Ambassador's have been busy....very busy.  No, seriously.  Busy getting a suntan.  Busy exploring Thailand.  Busy living the life of a pro athlete.  As I said, B..U..S..Y...people.  So this week, Ambassador's Antics is a reflection of their time at our Thailand Training Camp.  They look like the have had an absolute ball.  Not only are they going to come back full of wonderful memories, experiences and a whole lot of gusto, trust me when I say they'll also be coming back with a completely new level of fitness.  Look out!

bike-maintenance-night
Chick's Bike Maintenance Night

Are you fairly new to cycling?  Do you need a little more confidence and know-how to keep your stead rolling along the roads like a dream?  Then listen up!

It’s time for girls to take over the cranks and we’re teaming up with the crew at Giant South Yarra to bring you a bike maintenance session that’s aimed especially for girls.

Why only for girls?? hmmm… we know that sometimes it’s quite intimidating to come to a ride session, where there are loads of peeps with their bikes, just talking bike stuff and mechanic language, and that for some, it’s as plain as Double Dutch!  And not to mention the anxiety that bubbles up if you do get a flat and the awkwardness that ensues when chivalrous gentlemen come to the rescue (a.k.a takeover) almost immediately.   How the heck are you expected to learn?!?

Well, the point of this session is to encourage girls to come together, learn from the best, share stories, ask questions and get the confidence they need to working on their bikes….by themselves.

FREE SHOES

Putting Soles on the Feet of Beautiful Souls

That’s right, shoes…that are free!! Free for children who currently live in poverty and literally can’t afford shoes…or socks for that matter.  This is where I’m calling upon the amazing TA family to PLEASE HELP!

During my recent travels to Sri Lanka, I was fortunate enough to visit a school and meet some incredible young kids. They are the poorest of the poor. They have very little but were so full of life and love.  I am currently taking shoe donations (including socks) with an aim to collect a minimum of 400 pairs – one pair for every child at the school.

Many of us, including our children, siblings, nieces, nephews etc have a pair of runners that don’t see the light of day and just sit in the back of the cupboard. These pre-loved shoes can literally come back to life and potentially be the first pair of shoes these children will ever own. For some, this will be something they will never forget. But please make sure they are still in reasonable condition.

If you can help, please bring whatever you can to training sessions and I will take them off your hands. I will be attending the TA movie night at the Jam Factory also, so you can bring them along then too.  Thank you legends!!

Dry Needling vs Acupuncture - What Is The Difference?

If you only compared dry needling and acupuncture with a photo, you might be stumped to identify each. Both acupuncture and dry needling use thin, stainless steel needles. For both practices, those needles are inserted into the skin. And both practices also claim to treat pain.

But that’s where the similarities end. Unique qualities help differentiate the two quite clearly. One practice has been used for thousands of years as an alternative treatment, and the other was only adopted in the last few decades. One is designed to relieve pain, discomfort, or issues by opening up a person’s energy flow (or chi). The other is designed to stimulate “trigger points,” or muscles that are irritable. Knowing the differences can help you decide which type of treatment is right for you.

Dry needling is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain used by our clinicians. If you are interested in getting this treatment phone Lakeside Sports Medicine Centre on (03) 9682 6029.
