RECOVERY WEEK

kinglake-riding-2

Can you believe it’s recovery week again?? Already?! Time flies when you’re having fun!

Remember that rest, including sleep, is paramount this week. Without it, you simply will not make the gains you have been working hard at over these past 2 weeks.

Still not convinced? Well, take a listen to a podcast we are sharing with you this week from Dr Michael Gervais’ Finding Mastery series. Dr Gervais has a chat with sleep expert Dr Matthew Walker and believe us when we say, the stats will astound you…make sure you keep listening through until the end, we think you’ll probably be blown away at the 50 minute mark.

We had a great weekend here in Melbs which saw us FINALLY make it to Kinglake for the first time this Winter! A big shout out to all of those who made it to Panton Hill or Kinglake for the first time…ever…all bearing huge smiles and loads of positivity! It is some seriously tough riding out there from the get-go, regardless of where you start from, or get to, so everyone should be proud of their efforts…and keep your fingers crossed that we can do it all again in three weeks’ time!

Speaking of weather, stay tuned for training updates this week with the impending deluge…we have had a pretty good run this Winter so I guess we can’t complain but we’ll see what happens and as always, safety is our priority.

Lastly, our friends who shall not be named (#jealous) have returned from Thanyapura, we’ll hear more from them next week about their time away but no doubt you have all seen the photos and have ALL of the #FOMO! You can fix that though by registering for the next best training camp on our calendar, Queenscliff from the 13 - 15 of September.

Happy recovery week!

Keep Your Immune System in Check
There’s nothing worse or more frustrating than getting sick just before a race, or when you’re in the middle of a training build. While moderate levels of exercise or training are good for your health and can enhance your immune system, prolonged, high-intensity endurance exercise or training can dampen the immune system, making triathletes often more susceptible to the common colds and flu’s.  Check in here to see how you can keep your immune system in tip top shape.

RUNNING FOR A GOOD CAUSE

1000kms for Men's Health
Hello friends!

As some of you may know, this year I’ll be taking on the challenge to run 1,000km in one year for the charity LIVIN. Partly to raise funds but, more importantly, to raise awareness about men’s mental health.

One of the reasons I’m running for LIVIN is because of how much their tagline really hits home for me:

“It ain’t weak to speak.”

Unfortunately, there’s still a huge misconception that it’s a sign of weakness when a man suffers from, or talks about, poor mental health.

Those who know me know that I absolutely hate long distance running. But not as much as I hate needing to lie about why I had to call in sick or cancel plans.

Or having to laugh it off when someone says "Maybe you just need to man up!"

Or saying, “Yeah, good mate!” instead of admitting that I’m not.

Or finishing sentences with, “but I’m sure it’ll be fine!” when I’m really terrified that it won’t be.

Running 1,000km will be very, very hard. But not as hard as having the courage to speak up.

And I hope that when I finish, it will be with the same sense of relief as taking that first step to ask for help.
