GOODBYE SUMMER - ENTER AUTUMN

james6

Hopefully everyone made the most of their recovery week and are feeling refreshed and ready to go, as we enter the back end of our season.  Not long to go now.  Let's break it down; Just 2 weeks to go until the next 2XU series race in Portarlington; 5 weeks until St Kilda; And 7 weeks until Challenge Melbourne and the end of the local racing scene!  Wow...hasn't that gone quickly!  And a timely post by Steph-bassador this week, on embracing the recovery time.

The weekend saw more racing, both here and abroad.  Most notably was our very own Jimmy Tyler, ticking off Ironman #7 and conquering Ironman NZ with a solid performance. We had the Vic All Schools Champs, the Corporate Tri, Sufferfest, crti racing, track racing and Surf Live Saving Club Champs.  Make sure you read the wrap up to hear all about our amazing athletes!

We have an interesting inclusion from Gaz this week, throwing in his opinion on race nutrition (worth a read and a healthy debate when you get a chance), all the latest on Beach Rd works (yes - this will impact you!) and the launch of an exciting new concept from Mizuno - the WAVE KNIT!

Grab yourself a quiet spot, your favourite bevvie and sit back and enjoy!

#AdventuresOfSharkAndSteph

"It’s taken me nearly a whole month to come to terms with the thought of backing off training. I don’t know if other people struggle with this as much as I do? Is it my ‘triathlon’ personality? Am I too reliant on the endorphins? Is it that the routine of training is hard to break? I like to think of it like running on a treadmill (of course I need a training related analogy!!), if you hit ‘STOP’ it’s so abrupt that you basically fall off, right?? But if you slowly decrease the pace, the treadmill slows gradually and you avoid falling off completely."

Gaz's 2 Cents On Nutrition

It’s easy to quantify the swim, bike and run segments of a triathlon, and therefore we can be very specific about what our training loads for those distances need to be. But when we talk about nutrition, it all becomes vague generalizations, we can be given some broad recommendations and then told “but you need to see how it works for you and make sure you practice it when you train”!

Destination Race

Have you entered Race #5 on the 18th March?  We love this race weekend on our calendar – such great location, different course (#notbeachroad) and the vibe is awesome.  If you haven’t been down, you simply must make this part of your schedule!   We usually make a weekend of it, heading down Friday and coming home either Sunday night or Monday morning and find it easier to book a house a share with our crazy crew.  If you're looking for someone to bunk with, need a lift down or simply want some advice, shoot us an email and we'll put you in contact with others in a similar situation.

BEACH RD WORKS

Brighton Main Sewer Upgrade Project

Melbourne Water will start works to upgrade the 100 year old Brighton Main Sewer from Monday 5 March 2018.

Changes to traffic conditions

Some disruptions and delays are expected while these works are underway. Beach Road will continue to be accessible to all road users however please allow extra time for travel. All road users will be subject to a reduced speed limit of 40km/h and some lane closures will be necessary while works are underway on the road.  To avoid any frustration we encourage you to seek an alternate route.

Construction hours for early works will be Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm. Works to reline the sewer will be staged so as to minimise disruption to peak hour traffic. They will be undertaken over a continuous period that will incorporate both day and night shifts.

Cyclists and Pedestrians

Work crews and traffic controllers will work proactively with cyclists. We ask that cyclists be aware that changes to the road surface and traffic conditions will impact how they ride, and to remain mindful of pedestrians and other road users when riding on or near a works zone.

Delivering a Pure Performance Experience

Inspired by our iconic Wave technology, Mizuno introduces the WAVEKNIT. With a performance enhancing knitted wave construction on the upper, this innovative material provides a breathable, natural yet dynamic sock-like fit thanks to its unique stretch and hold ability.

While the upper is constructed without any reinforcements, the Wave pattern is designed to provide hold and stability, compensating for any stretch in other areas of the knit to make a natural and dynamic fit possible.

The dual ability to stretch and hold gives the WAVEKNIT a very dynamic fit. During your run, the knitted upper not only stretches to keep the shoe feeling comfortable and not too tight, it also regulates the amount of stretch, to hold the foot in place. The idea behind such a flexible upper as WAVEKNIT is to adapt to the movement of the runner, for a more stable, comfortable experience. Although the WAVEKNIT upper isn’t reinforced like traditional running shoes, stability and hold are still provided by the interwoven design of the Wave pattern itself.
