Happy New Year TA Family! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and were able to spend some time with family and friends and unwind over the holiday break. We sure did!
Whilst a new year brings excitement at the prospect of new opportunities, a focus on goals and the reset of Garmin/Strava totals, we also remain realistic that there will still be hurdles ahead. It was easy to get caught up with the numerous social media posts biding good riddance to 2020 and rejoicing in 2021 somehow magically returning our world back to normal at the stroke of midnight, but let’s face it…that isn’t going to happen for a long time yet.
Nevertheless, we are excited to get going again. We kicked off group training sessions on Monday night, with Coaches Ollie & Weekesy dishing out a super strength set and good numbers returning to the pool. There was also a great bunch of committed athletes embracing the elements at running Tuesday morning and we expect to see the trend continue. Head Coach was most pleased, commenting on the positive vibes and buoyant atmosphere…a return of the TA culture!
Quick reminder, we are running a full timetable, including:
- 3 x pool squad sessions p/wk
- 3 x open water swims p/wk
- 3 x combo sessions at Elwood p/wk
- Full flexibility and strength programs
- A virtual wt option p/wk
- Morning run intervals, and
- Hot Laps at Albert Park or on Zwift
No bookings are necessary at this point, with no restrictions on numbers. But all athletes must continue to be signed into each session to register their attendance.
All session details can be found at our online timetable. Of particular note, is the change of time to Saturday long course rides, now leaving from Elwood at 6am.
We’ve been in discussion with O2 Events and at this point it’s all systems go for Race #1 at St Kilda on the 17th January, albeit run slightly differently to what we are used to. But as with training sessions, we are waiting for any updates, particularly related to the recent outbreak in the Bayside area. We must take this time to remind all athletes wanting to attend sessions, please do not come to a session if:
- You feel unwell
- You have any symptoms
- You have recently been in any exposure sites/hot spot areas
- You are awaiting test results
- You are a close contact of anyone with any of the above
We are asking you to please check the DHHS website for lists of case locations and outbreaks before attending a session, as these are constantly being updated and include many locations in the local area:

For now, it’s time to get to work, build on the solid foundation made over 2020, piggy-back off the Hell Week spike and get ourselves prepped and ready to rumble!
