WHAT A WEEKEND OF RACING!

im-wa-athletes-2

We must start with Ironman Western Australia...Anyone else a little bleary-eyed from being glued to the tracker all day yesterday?  And thanks to the time difference, it was an even longer day.  But so worth it!  All our athletes did an incredible job and did themselves, and the TAFamily, proud.  We have included everyone’s results below, but cannot go past recognising 2 of our podium men, Chris and Mario:

  • Chris was first up and had a dominant performance in the 70.3. He was the virtual leader for most of the race, which is tricky when you can’t ‘see’ your competition.  Just as the wheels were about to fall off, in comes the Head Coach with some encouraging words and a little motivation to push hard to the end.  Result = 2nd place in his age group and a spot into the 70.3 World Championship next year.  Woo hoo!
  • Mario was next, and as everyone knows, he enjoys himself out on course. So, it was not a surprise to see many photos of him smiling and joking around with the supporters.  He got off the bike in 21st position, and with those Super Mario legs of his, he quickly made up ground in his age group.  15th, 12th, 10th,…8th….yikes!  The coaches back home were crunching numbers and it was getting exciting.  Quickly onto the phone to WA and time to get him moving.  Once again, Head Coach swung into action and got Mario moving faster.  More numbers back home, more frantic phone calls and Mario lifted like he has never done before!  He was sitting in 4th right until the finish line, where he (virtually) jumped into 3rd - Incredible!!!!  He had just run down 17 places to finish on the podium.

Moral of the story – have a good team around you!  The coaches not only worked in the lead up to race day, but were feverously working behind the scenes, as well as on the ground, during the race to get the two boys to reach their potential.  To quote Sarah’s favourite phrase, “Teamwork makes the dream work!”

We know they are recovering this morning, so we’ll hear more from them in the following days.  We hope to be able to bring you their race reports next week.

As is the theme right now, we move from one race weekend, straight into the next one.  Round 2 of the 2XU series takes us down to Green Point in Brighton this weekend.  We have included all the details you need to know below.  From entries, shoelaces, the checklist and a call out for Tri Kids helpers, it’s all there.  We are looking forward to another bumper weekend and lots of cheering of the yellow and blue army.  Make sure you are wearing the colours to get all the love!

Speaking of which, we close to closing the Special Orders store, so you must act fast.  You have this week only to make your selection and then Andy will be processing all items.  We know some of our stock has been limited, especially the male trisuits, so this is a great alternative.  There’s a link below to order.

Tickets to the TA Xmas Party are open.  We’ll be heading to the Port Melbourne Bowls club, on Sunday 18th December for barefoot bowls, celebratory BBQ and lots of chills and chats with your favourite tri buddies.  Not to mention drinks at bowling club prices!   Don’t have FOMO – lock it in now.

Some of you have been asking about Hell Week (and some of you don’t know what you are in for!).  Well, we have the dates: 24th – 31st Dec.  I’ve popped the Hell Week guide below so you can familiarise yourself with the routine.  All you really need to know is, clear your calendar and get your sh*t organised to triathlon every day!

And last, but not least, since we’ve taken the open water swimming to a whole new level, many of you have been eyeing off the hot showers at Elwood Life Saving Club.  Well, you know you too can take advantage of them, and support a good cause at the same time.  We are members of the ELSC and encourage as many of you to as well.  Details below if you’d like to get involved.

Think that’s it for a bumper edition.  No doubt there’s something I forgot (like Lior’s results from last week, which I have included today!), and will be sure to send you soon.

RECENT RESULTS

im-israel
Ironman 70.3 Israel

My apologies, as I missed Lior's results last week :(

He recently raced his first 70.3 in Israel (Tiberias).  Tiberias, the city of the Sea of Galilee, lies on the western shores of the Israeli national lake. It is blessed with great weather, warm hospitality and a rich cultural tradition and history. Tiberias is one of the leading tourism cities in Israel and well known worldwide. IRONMAN 70.3 Tiberias offered athletes the opportunity to race around the historic lake and surrounding areas taking in the beauty of this unique destination.

Unfortunately, Lior got sick the night before the race and had trouble keeping down any nutrition.  But he soldiered on and got the job done.  A just reward for the months of hard work he has invested into this race.

Well done, Lior!  We can't wait to catch up with you and hear all about it when you get back.  And we have a sneaky suspicion you'll be wanting redemption in the near future!

Lior Moyal - 5:58:56 - 53rd place
(swim 38:55 / bike 3:03 / run 1:59)

For those new to the concept, Hell Week (contrary to what the name suggests), is a fun-filled, week-long challenge of completing a run, ride and swim every day. In a nutshell, you’ll be completing a triathlon every day for one week, which replaces our normal timetabled sessions at MSAC, Elwood and Albert Park.
