THUMBS UP IF YOU'RE EXCITED FOR RACE WEEK!

cairns-athletes

The time has come!  Time for our long course athletes to take on the feat of Ironman Cairns this weekend.  Cairns hosts the 70.3 and the Ironman Asia Pacific Championships this Sunday, adding another level of prestige to this event and depth into this field.  We are so excited for all our athletes, who have been working consistently over the last couple of months to get themselves to the start line.  Each of our athletes has their own story, their own battles, their own successes, their own way of experiencing their journey and they've made their own way to this day. HUGE good luck to them all and may the seas be kind (albeit murky), the wind be at your back (or at least have the mental capacity to suck up the inevitable head wind home) and the crowds be there to lift you through the run (literally if need be!).  Check out the link below to see all our athletes racing.

Does all this talk about FNQ make you think of warmer places and escaping the Melbourne Winter?  Well, a trip to Thailand is just around the corner for many of our athletes.  Thanyapura truly is something amazing and honestly is every triathlete's dream.  This 10-day camp will not only be an incredible opportunity to take your training and racing to the next level, but also a life experience to treasure.  Read the testimonials and make sure you get your name on the list asap!

But for those of us planning out a slightly cooler training regime over the long weekend and into Winter, we thought it was a good time to remind you about rugging up and what you should be wearing!  And when you inevitably get sick, should you cut back on the exercise or be pushing through?

Race day isn't the challenging part, it's the reward.  For the months of hard work while you were training!

To Exercise In Sickness or Just In Health?

Unfortunately, sometimes our bodies just decide to be sick. As much as this can happen to all of us at any time, the weather is getting colder, the daylight shorter and it's much darker in the southern hemisphere this time of the year. So, what to do in case we get a cold or a the flu? Should we still train? How do we make these decisions? Eddy shared an atricle with us that could help you decide.

There's No Such Thing As Bad Weather

Don't let the recent sunshine and warm temps fool you!

Winter is around the corner and with Lorne Camp fast approaching, now is the time to make sure you have all the gear you need to keep you warm and dry as we climb (and descend) mountains over winter!

WINTER CYCLING

Are You Keeping Warm This Winter?

How about those frosty mornings this weekend....Hello Winter! Well, you should have heard by now, 'there’s no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing choices'. And we may have seen some...errrmmm...interesting choices over the weekend! When you’re riding on a cold, frosty, wet or windy day, you want to be as warm and as comfortable as you can. I had a look over the weekend at our Winter Cycling Jackets and saw that there's not many left. Don't leave it until it's too late if you need one of these as new stock will not be here to keep you warm this winter! And they are heavily discounted, so this'll be the best $60 you spend this winter!

ROAD CYCLING TIPS

Bike Safety and Ethics
In a triathlon, you spend the most amount of time on your bike, so naturally this translates to time spent training on the bike.  At Tri Alliance, we want to make sure all our athletes understand and adhere to cycling road rules and general bike etiquette, especially when you are out on group rides.
“Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as other road users. Whatever vehicle you drive, the golden rule is to treat other road users with respect and courtesy. All road users should drive or ride safely and obey the traffic rules at all times.
Please take some time to make yourself aware of road cycling rules, safety and ethics - to keep yourself, our group and other road users safe.

There is a clear expectation that to ride in Tri Alliance bunch rides, you know your responsibility.
