Gear Up, Reflect and Ride On!

We’ve made it back to the beginning of Build Week 1 again, and what better way to start the week than with a read of your favourite newsletter!  So, grab your drink of choice and settle in for a quick rundown of what's on the agenda.

First things first, let's talk about the Pre-Season camp happening this weekend in beautiful Queenscliff. I can already feel the excitement building up! Our crew, including a fantastic team of four coaches, will be throwing themselves into three days of intense race-specific training. Not to mention all the added bonuses you get when you are living the pro-life and have the coaches at your disposal 24/7.  It's like a triathlete's dream come true, right? If you're not joining us at camp, unfortunately there won’t be any coached sessions in Melbourne.  But you can follow your own program and stay in the game.

Speaking of getting in the game, have you checked in on just how long you have left before your next race day? We've laid it all out in black and white, just to remind you how much (or little) time you've got left to prep. Trust me; it's a real eye-opener and might just kickstart your motivation into high gear.

Now, let's talk style and performance. We're thrilled to introduce our brand-new trisuits for the season. You can pre-order yours now at a discounted price and even personalise it to showcase your name or triathlete personality. Looking good and feeling fast has never been easier!

Speaking of races, Andy's got a compelling reflection to share from his recent adventure at the Livigno Xtreme Triathlon. Spoiler alert: sometimes, things don't go according to plan in the world of triathlon, and that's okay. Andy's story is a testament to resilience and the pursuit of achievement.

On a lighter note, have you been keeping tabs on Jimmy and Dicko's epic travels? Those two are living the dream and making us all a bit jealous with their globetrotting adventures. We can't wait to hear all about their races when they return, but for now we just want them to enjoy their rest and recovery time!

Now, let's circle back into the heart of our squad - Meet the TA Family. It was received really well last week, and we’re excited to bring you another instalment this week.  Meet the TA Family is more than just a segment; it's a journey into the incredible people who make up our tight-knit community. This week, we're turning our attention to Georgia, to hear how she got connected with TA and learn a little bit more about her.

And what's a newsletter without some friendly advice? Captain Gaz has a word of wisdom in the Coach's Corner, reminding us to ride safely and responsibly during our weekend adventures on the bike. We're all in this together, folks!

Quick session reminders:

  1. Tuesday morning runs now start at the early bird hour of 5:45am during Build Weeks 1 and 2.
  2. Tuesday night wind trainer sessions are back at MSAC in the flesh.
  3. For our beginner swimmers and Lane 0 regulars, Wednesday night swim sessions are kicking off this week, especially for you. If you're unsure which Wednesday session is your jam, please reach out and clarify.  We’d hate for you to turn up to the wrong session!
  4. Thursday night run session change of location. Due to the forecast of 94,000 supporters due at the MCG for the first AFL final (#GoPies), we are keeping you clear of mayhem and will run the session from MSAC, around Albert Park Lake.

Ready to represent the squad? 2XU Tri Club entries are open, and we'd love to see as many of you as possible sign up and take advantage of that sweet 20% discount included in your Annual Membership packages. More racing = more fun!

Last but not least, a big shoutout to all of you who participated in the spontaneous Beat Your Time challenge last week. The efforts in the swim and the run have not only impressed the coaches, but clearly demonstrated the unwavering dedication to slogging it out through Winter training and committing to setting the foundations for the season ahead! Those who successfully beat the clock and emerged victorious have been rewarded with $300 to deduct from the Queenscliff registration.  It's our way of saying "Bravo!" while also lightening the load on their camp investment, proving that hard work truly pays off! Those winners who had already paid for camp are receiving a refund of $300.

That's a wrap, folks! Scroll on down for all the juicy details.

Keep pushing your limits, have fun, and remember, the pain of discipline today is the strength of achievement tomorrow.

Thoughts From Captain Gaz

"Firstly, I thought today's ride was great! Everyone seemed to be going well in what I thought was a higher intensity ride than previously! Well, I thought so anyway, or maybe I’m just not going that well!

Ok we had a a bit of an incident on the way back but these things happen! If you think you can ride in a group and never have something go wrong, you will inevitably be proven wrong! When you ride in a group, everyone is responsible for everyone! So if something goes wrong it’s everyone’s fault! To say it was someone’s fault is simply unfair! It’s usually a result of a whole host of factors!

Today no one got hurt, and the good thing is we are all wiser for the experience! It is also a reminder to not get slack on group riding protocols and that you can never overdo the safety calls! It can happen to anyone…. and does!

A couple of call-outs! Well three!

  1. Ben’s effort on the hills and unofficial KOM for the day (which might become a thing)
  2. Erin for making the jump to the longer ride and looked very comfortable the whole ride!
  3. Tam for making me hurt myself chasing her up the hills!

Btw my Garmin said my ascent and descent figures aligned perfectly! I mean say no more

Race Reflection by Andy

Sometimes when you test your limits you find them.

I completed the swim in 13.5-degree waters. The course was shortened to 3km, due to the air temperature being too low (2 degrees). Hit transition and did a full kit change, trisuit and many layers and headed out onto the bike course. 195 kms with 6 categorised climbs. Straight away we were going up from T1!

Introducing Georgia!

Join us in getting to know more about Georgia! Her venture into the world of triathlons started with a friendly bet to tackle a 70.3, leading her to TA for essential training support, and even scoring her a 70.3 World Champs qualifying spot! Balancing a packed training schedule with professional and personal life may seem like a challenge, but Georgia's a master at weaving her social activities around her training regimen. But that's not all—Georgia harbours a hidden talent that might surprise you!

IMPORTANT UPDATES

wind-trainer-msac

We're Back at MSAC!

We had a successful return to wind trainer at MSAC last week, with athletes feeling the full benefits of training in this ideal environment. So it's full steam ahead!

Session Details:

* Date: Every Tuesday

* Time: Arrive and set up from 6:00 PM, session starts promptly at 6:15 PM

* Location: We meet upstairs above the indoor pool. You can enter through main reception and walk up the stairs straight ahead. Yes, you just carry your bike through there.

* Equipment: You’ll need: bike, slick tires, 2 x water bottles, 2 x towels, wind trainer skewer to suit your bike

We are convinced that the move will offer numerous advantages that align with your training needs. Key benefits include:

  1. Instant Feedback: Real-time coaching corrects form and minimises bad habits.
  2. Motivation: Group training boosts camaraderie, competition, and effort.
  3. Learning: Observe pros, ask questions, enrich triathlon understanding.
  4. Clear Communication: Direct in-person interaction enhances clarity.
  5. Intense Environment: Heat and humidity heighten heart rate, improving endurance, oxygen use, blood volume, and thermoregulation.
  6. Mental Resilience: Facing discomfort builds toughness for race-day challenges.

Session Logistics:

* Please bring your own wind trainers. If needed, you can hire one from the TA office for $10 (card or exact cash). This option will be available from 6pm – 6.10pm

Swim Change from September

We're very excited that our Wednesday night swim squad session will begin this week, with Coach Steph!

Session Details:

* Date: Every Wednesday night from Sept 6th

* Time: 6:30 PM - 7:45 PM

* Location: Outdoor pool, lane 0

* Equipment: Please bring all pool buoy, paddles, bands, snorkel, and resistance bands.

Why the Change?

Our squad has been steadily growing, and as it expands, we want to ensure that every member receives the attention, guidance, and coaching they need to excel. To accommodate this, we will be dividing our Wednesday swim squad into two dedicated sessions:

Wednesday 5:45am Session: This session is tailored for our intermediate to advanced swimmers. These swimmers are tumble turning and this session is an opportunity for them to continue pushing boundaries, challenging limits, and refining skills amongst peers who share their level of expertise. 3 lanes, 2 coaches.

Wednesday 6:30pm Session: This session is geared towards beginner to low-intermediate swimmers. This evening session is designed to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for those who are emerging in their triathlon journey or looking to refine their foundational swimming techniques. 1 lane, 1 coach.

Navigating the Change

Change can bring about questions. If you're unsure which session is best suited for you, or which one you qualify for, please have an open conversation with one of our coaches. They're here to guide you and ensure that your training aligns with your skill level and aspirations.

Welcome Back, Coach Steph!

A fan-favourite and a coach hand-picked for their dedication and skill, the one and only Coach Steph is returning to our team especially to work with a tailored focus on Wednesday evening sessions. Her return is set to propel our swimmers towards even greater achievements.
