TA IN BUSSO

im-wa-athletes

Two words; IRONMAN BUSSO!  Yeeww…what a day out for our athletes!  Let’s go through some stats – 12 athletes (6 first timers, 2 completing IM #9, The General clocking Busso #10), 5 athletes exiting the swim in top 10 positions (Jez cracking the hour & 3 athletes bang on 1 hr!), 3 athletes coming off the bike in top 10s (Fleggo smacking out a 5:01) and 2 athletes 2nd fastest times in their AGs, Georgie fastest run time in her AG, 2 podiums, 1 Kona Qualifier, loads of individual PBs and the best part of all…..H A P P Y athletes (and coaches) all round! Couldn’t ask for anything more.  We also had 3 athletes take part in the 70.3 event held at the same time and knock out some great results.  Head to the weekend wrap up to check out the details and read some race day reflections.  And with considerably less favourable conditions, we had a couple of athletes brave the elements at Sufferfest Safety Beach and the Carman’s Fun Run and a couple of athletes hide out in the new Elwood Pavilion on Sunday morning!

Quick update to anyone who came along (or tried) to our MSAC Monday night swim session.  Apologies from us, but more so bigger apologies from MSAC who inadvertently turned some of our members away on the night and miscommunicated some false information.  Let’s just clear things up by saying, WE are not the tri squad with the outstanding invoices.  We are NOT the tri squad that had our lanes cancelled.  But we ARE the Tri Squad with a similar name, which is where the confusion with the staff began.  Just know that we are one of the largest squads with permanent bookings at MSAC and the only reason a session is cancelled is because of a swim competition that takes priority.  Enough said.

We’ve included a short little article this week, titled ‘Big Isn’t Always Better’.  This one is specially for the ladies and working out just what to wear underneath that tri-suit of yours.  Thanks to Janine for helping out our athletes by writing this article when we approached her.  And now’s a good time to call out for future contributors.  If you think you’ve got some good information worth sharing with the crew, please get in touch.  Athletes LOVE learning from other athletes.

So now, let’s look forward to the next couple of weeks…lots going on!  Ambassadors announced and social night this Thursday, Sandy Race #2 this weekend, Xmas party the following weekend and before you know it, we’ll be into Hell Week!!!! (PS: stay tuned for a HOT deal coming out from our Garmin partners just in time for Xmas.)

We’re already late so no more delays……R E A D    O N

Have Your Say
We've received so many wonderful nominations for our 2018/19 Tri-Alliance Ambassadors, that we were blown away!  Comments like:
  • I think very outstanding person
  • Doing things the TA way
  • Represents everything I love about people, sport and triathlon
  • Couldn’t meet nicer person
  • Someone to respect and look up to for so many reasons
  • Always happy to share their knowledge and always have a smile on their faces :)
And many, many more.  But the time has come for the squad to vote.  Who do you think should be our new female and male Ambassadors?  All nominees have been notified prior to this NL (if you don't see their name on the ballot paper they reluctantly declined).  Please take the time to share your thoughts on who best displays characteristics such as positive and motivational attitude, consistently trains and attends Tri-Alliance Coached sessions, encourages and supports fellow athletes and has a genuine and strong passion for Tri-Alliance and the sport of Triathlon.
2XU TRIATHLON SERIES

Race #2 - Sandringham
With the season now underway and enthusiasm high, let's ride that wave all the way down to Sandringham for Race #2 of the 2XU Triathlon Series! Put your hand up if you're ready and raring to go!

We currently have 52 athletes signed up to race for Tri-Alliance, but we're sure there are more!  2 reasons; 1/ you're notorious for leaving things to the last minute or 2/ you've signed up to race but haven't linked your entry to Tri-Alliance so are not racing for our team (*insert sad face here*).  Not only can we not see that you are entered, your valuable series points are not included in our tally!
Don't forget....all annual members are entitled to a discounted race entry.  So why wouldn't you do it?  When you enter, select Tri-Alliance, it will prompt you for a password which you just select request and we approve from our end.  Couldn't be easier!
If you'd like to check if you are linked, just shoot Bondy an email.
~
Being 4 years since the last time the race was held in Sandy, we will be running an extra session this week to give Tri-Alliance athletes a lay of the sea in preparation for race day!
When: Friday 7th December
Meet: Sandringham Beach (bottom of Jetty Rd)
Time: 5:45am
We will also be doing our usual pre-race combo session on Saturday 8th Dec.  Try to get along to at least one before you race!
TRI KIDS

Tri-Kids
Helpers Needed
The future stars of our crazy sport will again be getting amongst it this Sunday morning with the Carman's Tri Kids race.  We're looking for some friendly faces to come and give these little ones a hand.  It's super easy, they just need help with:
* lining up in their AGs
* walking to the start line
* being pointed in the right direction
* putting on tops, shorts, shoes (after the swim)
* racking and moving bikes
* encouragement to keep going
* smiles for miles and high 5s all round!
Meet at the TA Tent at 6:15am for briefing in bike compound at 6:30am.  The more the merrier.  Let's get around these gems of the sport!
SOCIAL TIME

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Xmas
~ SUNDAY 16th DECEMBER ~

A key social event on our calendar!
Christmas is the festive season – and triathletes are no different than everyone else (well, maybe……) but we all still celebrate Christmas and this event is looked forward to each year. It’s a time to get together, (outside of lycra), relax, have fun and be merry!

Lawn bowls, BBQ nibbles and festive drinks (LFBs for many of us) at St Kilda bowling club from 3pm onwards.

Due to the popular success of Secret Santa last year, we are expanding this year to include the lads.  So if you would like to partake in a bit of fun and nonsense, send Bondy an email to get all the details

SPORTS BRAS VS TRIATHLON

Bigger Isn't Always Better
There was a lot to learn when I started my triathlon journey.  Some things I had thought about and other things I hadn’t even considered.  I thought all I needed was bathers, goggles, bike and helmet and shoes to run in.  How wrong I was!   One thing I hadn’t expected was chafing...eek!
HELL WEEK

hell-week-banner
Are You Up For The Challenge?

For those new to the concept, Hell Week – as the name suggests, is a week-long period of completing a run, ride and swim every day. In a nutshell, you’ll be competing a triathlon every day for one week, which replaces normal timetable sessions in late December at MSAC, Elwood and Albert Park.

It is simple:
6am – Group Ride from Elwood Lifesaving Club every day (Apart from Christmas Day)
6pm – Group open water swim from Elwood Lifesaving Club (if you didn’t swim in the AM) also apart from Christmas Day

The aim of Hell Week is to provide athletes with a serious spike in their training, running from December 22-29, with the exception of Christmas Day (Or go ahead and do Christmas day if you’re feeling exceptionally hell-ish!).
