We got there…final race of the 2XU series for 2021 has been run and won and what a great day it turned out to be! Check out below for full details. Big thanks to O2 Events for pushing ahead and to all our athletes who helped put up the TA Taj on a Saturday morning or stayed behind after your race was done to help with pack down.  It takes a team to get the job done and it’s always so nice to see the helping hands roll up their sleeves without even being asked.  We’re super appreciative.  The hardest working team of Les & Matty are phenomenal – Ollie couldn’t do it without you two…thank you!

We’re also super pumped (and super bummed we couldn’t be there) for our Geelong crew, who also had a great day out last Sunday.  It’s been so nice to see the results, to hear the stories and see the pics from the day and we congratulate everyone on their efforts.  Check out details below.

For many, this now signals the end of racing and the start of recovery.  We have an annual plan that takes into account appropriate phases of training to get the most out of your body.  If you don’t know about this, there is more info below.  These training phases also include a change in our timetable for Thursday night sessions over winter and we’re calling on you to vote for your preferred location.

But if you’re not ready to hang up the racing shoes just yet, there is one more chance with Challenge Shepparton on the 11th April.  We now have quite a few athletes heading up and encourage others to get involved.

As a result of this event, we will stay with the Elwood combo sessions on Thursdays and Sundays until May, when we will implement our off-season timetable.  Check out details of more training updates below.

But for the next few days, enjoy a very Happy Easter with your friends and families.  We will train on Saturday morning only, with Friday, Sunday and Monday being public holidays.  The weather is going to be amazing, so it’ll be great to see lots of you out and about.

PS...how good is this pic!  Gotta love it when you sail past an athlete and they're left thinking, what the?!?!?!

2XU Series St Kilda

What a day!  Thank goodness the swim was not cancelled and the final race for this season was able to go ahead as a triathlon!  We had a huge number of athletes racing, and lots of newbies completing their very first triathlon….whoo hoo!

Shout out this week to Clare, Annie and Catriona for their top 10 placings in the Fun Tri.  To Chloe, Yvonne, Leona, Steph and Gaz for their podiums in the Sprint.  And in the Olympic distance to Soph for her podium and Johnny, Riccardo and Karen for their top 10 places.

Check out the link below for a full list of results.  And for an added bit of fun this week, they are listed by placings and by time!

Race Results Geelong
Geelong 70.3

And equally, we were thrilled with the reports coming out of G-Town on Sunday.  Our crew did themselves proud with their efforts, not only getting to the start line but for having a real crack on the day.  First shout out to Daniel Staffeiri for getting himself around the course with virtually one arm.  For those who haven’t heard, he had a fall during his pre-race ride on the Saturday and had to fix himself and his bike up before even getting to the start line.  Big congrats to Dan Godino for the fastest race of the day and to Hayden for going sub 5hrs in his first 70.3 attempt.  Cuzzy had the fastest swim of the morning, with Paul next in right on 30min.  The speedsters on the bike included Cuzz, Dan, Tilders and Hayden, with not much in it between the next bunch.  And then the run…came down to Dan, Hayden, Alan and Sebastian all going under 1hr40.  Great to have so many first-timers down there, great to hear the stories and pb’s coming out and even greater to see all the smiling faces in the pics!  We have loads to share with you all soon.  Check out the full results below.

Training Phases

For the majority of our athletes, April is the month to recover and have some time off from triathlon. Recovery at the end of a racing season is extremely important and will have a direct impact on your training and more importantly - racing, over the next season.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF A RECOVERY AND TRANSITION PHASE?

  • Physiological Recovery
  • Psychological Recovery
  • Immune System Recovery
  • Recovery from recurring or niggling injuries

We will be looking to put together a line up of activities for the month of April, which are aimed at allowing you to have a break from ‘normal’ triathlon training and have some FUN while still maintaining fitness.  Keep an eye out on the socials for further details.

TRAINING UPDATES

MSAC-swim-sessions
New MSAC Swim Times for April

Thank you for your flexibility as we worked with MSAC during their peak carnival months and as they negotiated the new government mandates for public lane space.  We're almost out the other side and are excited to be getting our squad swims back on track.

From the start of April, our sessions will be:

Mondays 6:15pm – 7:30pm

Wednesdays 7:00pm – 8:15pm

Fridays 5:45am – 7:00am

Don’t forget that session do not run on public holidays, over Easter we will not swim on:

Friday 2nd April

Monday 5th April

Squad swimming will resume on Wednesday 7th April.  We will continue to work to have our Wednesday session moved back to the morning, which looks possible from the middle of the month. We will let you know as soon as we have confirmation.

Winter Running

Most of you will know, that in the off-season we move our focus from pace and race to strength and build.  So, on Thursday nights we will R-U-N.  There will be two sessions (The Tan and Maribyrnong), where coaches will work with athletes on building fitness, whilst also focusing on technique, hill strength and intervals.  Both sessions begin at 6:15pm.  But as mentioned above, we will continue at Elwood for the time being, so these run sessions will begin from May.

We want to gauge interest as to how many athletes would like to run at each location.  Please take the 2 seconds to vote!

Hot Laps/Logs

We are hitting the pause button on Hot Laps/Logs.  We feel the infrastructure now occupying the Albert Park Lake circuit is making it too risky to conduct an intensive bike session.  We will be looking to add an online session to the timetable over the off season.
But for now, those who raced should be enjoying some recovery time.  Those who don't have any races coming up should be in recovery mode.  And if you don't fall into either of those two categories and really feel like you need to ride, then get an hour of power in on the trainer to start the day off right!
