Training Adventures Abound

long-ride-day-2-thailand-camp

สวัสดี (Hello) from the sunny shores of Thanyapura! Our intrepid group of 12 athletes and coaches have landed safely in Thailand and are already immersing themselves in some serious training. The weather here is hot and humid, making it the perfect setting to push their limits. They've completed initial testing, gathered valuable data, and even undergone sweat testing to refine their strategies. From running to swimming and cycling, they're making the most of the idyllic conditions and top-notch facilities. It's a challenging journey ahead, but they've all made an incredible start, and we couldn't be prouder.

Meanwhile, back home in Melbourne, we've got our own training regime going strong. Coaches are at the ready, and our timetable is packed with awesome sessions. There's no slacking off just because the Head Coach is away! This is Build Week #2, and it's all about staying on track, embracing the plan, and finishing the cycle with a bang. Your commitment now will set the stage for your success in the grand scheme of our periodized training.

Now, imagine this: You've put in countless hours of hard work and dedication all year long, building your endurance, honing your technique, and pushing your boundaries. But why stop there? Our Pre-Season camp at Queenscliff is the perfect opportunity to capitalize on all that effort and take your training to the next level. Refine your skills, fine-tune your transitions, and elevate your performance to new heights. Don't miss this chance to make the most of your progress and unleash your full potential during this upcoming season, by being part of this action-packed camp!

Speaking of camps, we've got some big news to share! We've launched a brand-new Facebook page exclusively dedicated to our Triathlon Training Camps. This page is going to be the go-to spot for all things camp-related, so hit that "like" button and spread the word. We want everyone to be part of this fantastic community and share the excitement with their friends. Let's make it a vibrant hub for all our camp adventures!

As we gear up for the 2XU Triathlon Series, don't forget that as part of your Annual Membership, you get exclusive extra discounts. How cool is that? We've included all the details below on how to make the most of these sweet deals and gear up for the epic races ahead.

I have a feeling this week's long ride is going to be an absolute blast! Starting from Mordialloc and heading towards Arthurs Seat, it's an adventure for all athletes. Join Coach Gaz at 6:30am or go for the 7am uncoached ride. The route will be similar to the last time we headed that way and, as always, will be prescribed by Coach Gaz according to ability, distance required, and, well, his mood! Just imagine the morning you will have with a fun ride, picturesque views, and some fantastic entertainment from Gaz…..nah, neither can I!  But I do promise the hard work will come back in spadefuls!

Let's also keep our eyes open for some changes coming to our swim sessions from the week beginning 7th August. We know it's still some time away, but we want to give you plenty of notice. Take note of the change in time and pool locations below, and we'll remind you again next week.

By the way, the TriShop has some fantastic new swim accessories. Discover the soft silicone power PRO fins.  They are engineered for peak performance and endorsed by Head Coach Ollie! Our whole range is designed to ensure you have the best possible experience in the water. Make sure to check it out and treat yourself to some gear.

As we set out on this week's training journey, let's focus on seeing things through to the end. You've got this! Commitment and determination will carry you through, and coaches are here to cheer you on every step of the way.

Thriving in Thailand

We are currently living the dream in this tropical paradise, as we strive for excellence to gain the edge in triathlon. Let me tell you, the journey to get here was no walk in the park. Long plane flights, meticulously packing of copious amounts of gear, and mentally preparing ourselves for the drastic change in climate from cold and miserable Melbourne to the scorching heat and humidity of Thailand – it required sheer determination.

But you know what? It's all been worth it. Witnessing the commitment among our athletes, you can't help but feel a surge of pride. As soon as we set foot on Thai soil, we wasted no time and dived headfirst into the realm of high-performance training. The testing protocols have been eye-opening, providing us with valuable data that will shape our approach not just in training but also in future races. I must say, the dedication displayed by these athletes is nothing short of remarkable – they eagerly listen to feedback, review the insights gained and adapt their strategies accordingly.

Thanyapura is truly a haven for athletes, offering world-class facilities and a conducive environment to take their training to new heights.  From running on the purpose-built 500m track to swimming in an Olympic-level pool and cycling through picturesque landscapes, we are making the most of it all.

But it's not all about intense training. Recovery is just as crucial, and we've found the perfect balance. Hot and cold plunges, soothing Thai massages, and the most delectable meals served in-house at the restaurant – every aspect of the experience is designed to ensure we live and train like professionals.

So, it's the end of Day 2 of our Advanced Triathlon Training Camp, and as we delve deeper into our training regimen, let's take a moment to hear directly from some of our athletes about their experiences so far:

"Was nervous coming into camp knowing the pain to come but just driving into the resort I got this sense of excitement about what you were going to experience with the group. Great to catch up with everyone and of course, the visit to my bakery (sorry Sarah). Already seeing the benefits of camp in terms of preparing for the heat of Busso and being around like-minded people, all with different strengths, feeding off each other's experiences - just great energy around the group too (will see how energiser bunny we are by the end of this week)!"

"Training in Thailand sets you up in the perfect environment to realise your true potential away from everyday distractions of life.  The extent the body can adapt, and grow is only limited by your determination and drive."

"As a relative newbie in a triathlon training camp, I had some apprehension, but everyone here has been so welcoming and encouraging. The sweat testing was an eye-opener; I never realised how much difference a personalised hydration strategy could make. It's a fantastic learning experience!"

“As coaches, we are absolutely stoked with the dedication our athletes have shown so far. They've been like sponges, soaking up all the knowledge and pushing themselves. It's only been two days, but the progress they've made already has us pumped up for what's to come. Keep it up, team!”

As for our fellow athletes back in Melbourne, we wish you could all be here with us. With several more days ahead of us, we’re excited about the possibilities that lie before us. Together, we will become stronger, faster, and more resilient.

Until the next update, keep pushing your limits and stay motivated.

Thanyapura, out!
