Welcome to Build Week #1, and the start of July. It's the midpoint of winter, the turning point in your training and the perfect time to commit to getting the most out of this phase. If you’ve been ticking the boxes through Base, this is where the real gains start to take shape. We’re building on what’s been laid down over the past few months, adding strength, reinforcing technique and extending endurance. And for those following our 3-week periodisation model (which should be all of you), remember: you can’t peak all year round. The magic happens when you lean into the cycle: load up during the Build, push hard when it counts, and recover with purpose so you can come back stronger.
JULY: Winter Base Training – Endurance, Technique & StrengthHere’s a refresher on what this phase is all about (because let’s be honest - most of you don’t go back and re-read it each year 😉): During the month of July, we continue through our endurance-based training, with a strong focus on technique and strength development. Time Trials continue (every 6 weeks) and are a key tool to track progress and make targeted improvements. Make every effort to get to those sessions. And of course, July also means our Annual Thailand Training Camp, where a lucky group of athletes are about to take things to the next level. Tuesday Run. Thursday Ride. Back in Business.
The early mornings are back! Your Tuesday run and Thursday ride are back on the schedule, which means it’s time to reclaim your routine. Start with a run tomorrow. Meet Ollie and the crew and set the tone for a big month ahead. Commit to consistency now and you’ll be glad you did come spring.
Weekend Ride: Mordi to MorningtonIt’s time to start adding some grunt to your pedal stroke. Winter is the perfect time to build strength on the bike, and that means hill work. This weekend, Ollie’s recommending riders start from Mordialloc and head south towards Mornington for a solid return ride with plenty of opportunity to test the legs. 📍 Route: Mordialloc to Mornington (~55km) 🕗 Meeting Point: Attenborough Park Car Park, Nepean Hwy, Aspendale 🔗 Route map here ✅ Ride in ability-based groups ✅ Bring nutrition, spares, money and your phone ✅ Dress for the weather - TA kit is mandatory for visibility and safety ✅ Check your individual program for your distance and ride requirements 💬 If you’re unsure, have a chat with your coach before the weekend rolls around. Let’s get those legs climbing!
Duathlon Season is HereA big shout-out to Andrea Crompton, who raced at the opening round of the Victorian Duathlon Series on Saturday (while most of us were bundled up avoiding the cold!). Official results are still to come, so stay tuned, but we know Andrea races hard and fast (just like a good duathlon should be). Spoiler alert: an email today hints that she was “6 minutes faster than last year!” That’s what consistent training and winter grit can deliver. If you’re looking for a mid-winter hit-out to test the engine, Race 2 is coming up soon: 🗓 Saturday 20 July 2025 📍 Altona Beach This one’s also an official Age Group Team Qualifier for the 2026 Multisport Worlds in Abu Dhabi. Let us know if you're planning to race!

It’s July now, which means we’re inching closer to the end of the MSAC pool closures (expected August). When that moment comes, we’re heading straight back. But if you haven’t been keeping up with your swimming (or at least your band work), it’s going to be a rude shock. Let this be your gentle nudge to get moving now, so you’re ready to dive straight in when doors re-open. 🔗 Check MSAC updates here Winter Hacks from the Squad
