Let’s start with a big shout out to all our Ironman and 70.3 athletes who took on (and conquered) Port Mac over the weekend. This truly is a tough course and all kudos to the 10 athletes who toed the line. It’s no mean feat to even get to the start line of a major event, let alone battle it out all day (and in all conditions) to reach that magical finish line! So, a massive WELL DONE to you all! As I said last week, we had a few first-timers, a handful of old hands and several event-enthusiasts, and it was awesome to see each of them out on course with smiles on their faces. Yes! Even Gaz smiled (not grimaced) his way through the event. Lucky, we have photographic evidence. Please see their result below, but more importantly, have a catch up with them when they return as we hear that some of them have a few tales to tell.
We also had a couple of athletes take on the Great Ocean and Otway Classic ride on Saturday. Well done to Fabio who got through just over 200kms and Naomi who took on the 60km ride. With all the rain that came down Friday night, it would have been a daunting feeling to have to get out and ride the coast so early Saturday morning!
Looking forward, we have our End of Season drinks planned for Saturday night. We’re really excited to be getting everyone together for a night of celebration. Please make sure you book ASAP as I am finalising catering details in the coming days, and we wouldn’t want you to miss out! Booking link below.
As we enter May, we begin the first of our training phases for the year – Technique/Base training. Technique at the start of a training season is extremely important and will have a direct impact on your training and more importantly – racing, over the coming season. Technique training involves working on your skills in all forms of triathlon and breaking down the components of your swim stroke, riding technique, run technique. Those who commence their winter training in May will ensure they build a sound technique and base fitness to build on in our further training phases throughout the year. That also means we have a couple of changes to our training timetable. These are all outlined in detail below, so it’ll be important to know where to be and at what time. It’s also really important to know the WHY to our sessions, so make sure you ask a coach if you are unsure.
One change that’s worth highlight is to squad swim next Monday night 9th May. Due to comps in the pool during the day, our night session won’t begin until 7pm through until 8.15pm. Yes, it’s a little bit later, but with no session Tuesday morning it’s not a big deal.
And finally, if you were (or are now) thinking of heading up to Cairns for the Ironman event in June, we have an athlete looking for a cyclist in their team. Read the details below and let me know if you are interested. I will put you in touch.
I think that’s enough for now. IM athletes, enjoy the recovery and revel in your achievements. For everyone else, it’s time to get to work. Phase 1 starts today and if you are serious, you will be on board! |
