RECOVERY WEEK!
Well done to those who made it to Kinglake one last time! For everyone, this ride was a big one. Now to enjoy some much needed rest.

Advantages of Recovery...
For athletes at all levels, rest days (or, for us, a few mornings off and some lighter intensity sessions) are essential. Getting enough sleep has positive effects on both your body and mind, aids in muscle recovery, aids in combating adaptation, avoids overtraining and encourages relaxation.

What to do on a morning off? Have a relaxing sleep in. It's perfectly fine to sleep in! Later on, your body will thank you and reward you. Sleep is critical. Rest well, especially if you're doing an Ironman or a 70.3. Even one or two nights of sleep deprivation can impair performance during long sessions and have an effect on peak performance. Also, including some active recovery sessions to help with blood circulation and keeping the body moving, such as walking, jogging, light cycling, or even some extra strength work like pilates or yoga will help with your repair the body.

HOW TIRED IS TOO TIRED?

By Steph Anderson
For those who don’t know me, I love my sleep. I was unwell when I was younger and as a result, it’s normal for me to sleep like a log (through the night) for an ideal 8 – 9 hours most nights to stay happy and healthy. So, in mid-June, when I had not slept through the night for over a week, I was starting to get a little beside myself…and so began the ringing of alarm bell number one!

Alarm bell #1: Disruptive sleep.

Even if I only wake for a minute or two, this is enough to be disruptive for me. Now, before I lose all of you who are thinking “I normally wake in the middle of the night”, remember this is just what’s relative to me! Disruptive sleep for me is waking at all, for someone else it may be trouble falling asleep or prolonged periods awake....
