Race 1 done…tick!

Always feels good to get that first one under our belts.  And can you believe it was actually a TRI-athlon!  I was sure the swim would not go ahead, but I was wrong.  That lovely sunshine on Saturday must have done the trick, or we all just did our best not to notice the colour of the water.  Anyhoo, Race #1 at Elwood was a success.  Be sure to read all the race results below, including some smoking fast times and our podium champs!

Straight from one race weekend, and into the next.  Although this next one is a BIG one!  We’ve had a dedicated bunch of athletes training long and hard for Ironman Western Australia.  For some this has been a long-time coming (thanks COVID) and we also have 3 debutants taking to the start line.  Best of luck to all of you (and to Chris Dixon taking on the 70.3 in Busso this weekend) and take a read below to see the athlete start list and also a little Q&A we did with the crew.

Speaking of crew, it’s time to get more of the yellow and blue out there and see you all repping the colours.  We know some of our stock has been limited, especially the male trisuits, but this is where Andy has stepped in with an alternative.  There’s a link below to an online shop for special orders, but these are needed NOW!  Please be quick so we can process the order and get your gear in time.

Following on from our news about FINA taking over MSAC in December, we’ll head to the open water to make up for some list time.  Read below for all the details or check out the timetable which has now been updated.

Want to improve your performance and maximise power and endurance?  You can achieve this with a Retul bike fit!  The new software is dynamic, it’s more personalised and fits have never been better.  Now is the time to get yours booked it.  We haven’t changed our prices since 2010, meaning they are well below industry prices.  There will be an increase in 2023, but you can take advantage if you hustle now.

And finally, let’s think social.  Let’s think festive.  Let’s think about letting our hair down with our tri buddies for a TA Xmas Party.  We’ll be heading to the Port Melbourne Bowls club, which we know is a great venue where we can spread out, have a laugh and enjoy a drink or two in the sun (hopefully).  We’ve already heard the chitter-chatter than peeps are keen to make this a BIG one!  So, keep the date free and be sure you are there to avoid any form of FOMO.

Keep ticking goals team.  You’ve worked all winter for this time, so go out and enjoy racing!

RACE RESULTS

Will we swim?  Won't we swim?  That was the question for the preceding 48hrs!  And despite the ominous forecast, the swim went ahead!  It was a shock to the system for many, not having been in the bay yet this season.  And unfortunately, as the day went on, the chop increased. This was a baptism of fire, particularly for our Try the Tri athletes, but everyone got themselves around the course safely and have now realised they need to do some more swim training!

Congrats to everyone who got out there.  You should all be thrilled to tick that first race off your list.  You have to start somewhere, and this race has now just given you a benchmark.

Little shout out to those who finished on the podium yesterday:
Eleesha Nesci-Dixon - Fun Tri - 1st - F 30 - 39 in 0:29:17
Rodrigo Candiotti - Fun Tri - 1st M 30 - 39 in 0:26:49
Yasmin Johnson - Sprint - 2nd - Athena in 1:28:03

And to those who finished in the top 10 in their category:
Samuel Bauret Sprint 4th Open
Doug Ashman Sprint 4th M 70 - 74
Chris DIXON Sprint 5th M 40 - 44
Narelle Hayes Sprint 6th Athena
Henna Kossi Sprint 7th F 25 - 29
Alex Shiell Sprint 7th F 20 - 24
Johanna Glynn Sprint 7th F First Timer
Gary Rosengarten Sprint 7th M 60 - 64
Tamara Tambyah Sprint 8th F 25 - 29
John Noel Sprint 9th M 40 - 44
Torren Woolley Sprint 10th F First Timer
Paul Burns Sprint 10th M 55 - 59

  • Fastest time of the day went to Chris Dixon, with a smoking 1:02:40.  Looking in great form heading into IM 70.3 WA this weekend.
  • Closely followed by Johnny and Canadian Sam, breaking the 1hr10min barrier.
  • Fastest female of the day narrowly went to Henna in 1:15:03, with Tam hot on her heels in 1:15:45.

Huge thank you to all those who stayed and helped, on both Saturday and Sunday.  There are many moving parts in having such a big set up and we couldn't do it without your help.  Thanks for the tent put up and pack down, the clinic assistance, the BBQ cooking and clean up and for helping celebrate Gaz's bday.  The biggest thank you goes to Les, who worked tirelessly this weekend - you are literally a life saver!

Check out all the results on the link below 😊

Athlete Start List

Their BIG day is just around the corner!  We have a group of athletes heading over to Busselton (outside of Perth) this weekend to take on Ironman Western Australia.  They have been training long and hard for their special day and we wanted to wish them all the very best of luck for a great race.  We hope it is everything you have dreamed of!

To get to know our athletes a little better, we have asked them some very important questions!  Take a read to see how they are feeling and grab their race numbers so you can track them on Sunday.

Swimming Arrangements for December
The 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) will be held in December 2022 at MSAC. It will take place in the Outdoor Competition Pool and attract an international audience placing MSAC at the centre of the swimming world!  Very exciting!

But...
There will be no access to the outdoor pool from 28th November starting with event preparation, through pre-meet training and competition periods, reopening late December.  There will be limited access to the indoor pool, which will be set to 25m for current members only.

We have scheduled the following sessions for December:

Monday night 6pm at Elwood Beach
Wednesday morning 6am at Elwood Beach
Friday morning 6am at Elwood Beach

We strongly encourage all athletes to keep swimming and working on technique, whether that be with the squad, in the bay or independently at another pool.  Session details will still be programmed and can be accessed through CoachingMate.
RETUL BIKE FIT

The Only Way to Ensure Efficiency

Why do you need a bike fit?  One word, PERFORMANCE.  Getting you into an optimal position on the bike will not only increase your comfort, but it will also maximize both power and endurance.

And a Retul bike fit generally has a reputation for being above average primarily because the infrared technology does a good job of measuring the rider in all three planes.

With the advanced Retul software up and running, these fits have never been better.  They are dynamic, personalized and come with a full guarantee.

Current prices have not changed since 2010, making us by far the most cost-effective service around.  From the beginning of 2023, the bike fit prices will be increasing.  So, if you have been thinking of getting it done, now is the time.

You'll need to secure a booking in December to take advantage:
Current member price $225 --> New member price $330
Current non-member price $295 --> New non-member price $440

These are still well under industry prices, and in our opinion, money well spent. Think about how long you are on the bike for in training and in your race.  Focusing on the 1%ers all adds up!
