WEEKLY TRANSITION
28th JULY 2021 – SWIM, BIKE, RUN, READ

It's the weekly read that everyone waits for!
Stay up to date with all the latest news, hear from athletes, find weekly specials and get the lowdown on all important weekend sessions

future

Who’s been enjoying the Olympics?  If you’re anything like our household, then it’s pretty much been streaming all day every day.  Very inspiring to see all those athlete chasing their dreams, finally getting the chance to represent their country.  Makes you want to go out there and train just that little bit harder.  Nothing like a bit of motivation to help get through the final days of lockdown.  What we’ve loved is seeing our little man fascinated by all the activity.  How’s the above pic for a little triathlete in the making.  Just taking it all in and watching the women do their thing.  The bikes are definitely his thing!

In good news this week, it seems the step out of lockdown in happening faster than usual.  Please be mindful that we are governed by 3 main areas when considering our training sessions: Public gatherings, physical recreation and community sport.  These all have various restrictions, which can be managed to get you back together for some face-to-face training.  Please work with us to uphold the safety procedure that need to be implemented at every session; scanning in, mask wearing, 1.5m distancing, and following the ‘get in, train, get out’ mantra.

All sessions have been outlined below.  We round out recovery week with the last few days hosting running tomorrow night, swimming Friday morning, a Saturday morning ride and a long run option at Fairfield.  Then we head straight back into Build Week 1 to kick off August.  I have no doubt you all read the article last week about periodisation, so you are completely comfortable with our 3-week cycle.

For some further reading this week, I have included something a little different (feel free to take it or leave it) and a list of some GREAT books to help get you motivated.  I have read several of these and can highly recommend them.

We hope you are all looking forward to hitting the ground running.  Little reminder that the season will creep up on us before we know it.  Sow the seeds now to reap the benefit then.

Here's the Latest

It’s great news that following yesterday’s announcement by the Victorian Government restrictions in Metro Melbourne have eased from 11.59pm last night.

In regard to us, we are governed by 3 main areas: Public gatherings, physical recreation and community sport.  These all have various restrictions:

Public gatherings

  • Maximum of 10 people outside the home
  • Masks must be worn outdoors

Outdoor physical recreation and sport:

  • Density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm applies.
  • a maximum venue capacity of 100 people indoors/300 outdoors.
  • Restricted to a maximum of 10 people per group.
  • Masks must be worn indoors & outdoors.

Community sport:

  • Organised outdoor community sport is permitted for adults.
  • Open for training and competition.
  • No spectators allowed.
  • Training is limited to the number required to participate in and facilitate the activity.
  • Masks must be worn indoors & outdoors.
All of the above is great news for us!  Naturally, we had to wait for official confirmation from MSAC as to when squad bookings were opening.  This came through late Tuesday night, advising we will be back in the water from Friday morning.

An article worth reading...
Recently written by a Year 10 Wesley student and published in the Herald Sun, the impact on social connections for our young people in lockdown.
