RACING AT HOME

This weekend sees the next edition of the 2XU Series take place, and we are up to Race #5, which settles on our home turf…Elwood!  Best one to race and such good support out there for everyone.  If you’re still thinking about it, do it!  It’ll be fun.


We have a bumper crew of Try-The-Tri’s making their debut this weekend, as well as many Short Course athletes who have been fine-tuning their skills and working on top-end speed.  Wishing everyone the best of racing luck on Sunday.
 

We have details below about registering, the pre-race recon on Saturday morning, links to the race day checklist and elastic laces, and have included a reminder link to our YouTube channel, which hosts content galore!  If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a whole playlist of Race-Day tips, that’s worth refreshing the mind.


The feedback from the limited edition 2022 cycling jerseys was so positive, that Andy has brought them back by popular demand.  But this is definitely the LAST time!   The Race Fit jersey, in a men- and women-specific cut, is constructed with sustainable recycled performance fabrics, delivering a lightweight breathable piece that is lighter on the planet in its creation.  All the details for ordering are below, and Andy is the go-to person to answer all questions and show you the fit-kit, to ensure you order the right size.


And just a quick bit of timetable news…. This is a Recovery/Taper week, so those who want to run on Tuesday morning, should turn up to Albert Park Lake.  Ollie will be there and it’s a good idea to keep the legs moving as you move into race week.  Also, keep an eye out for changes to swim times at MSAC over the next couple of weeks.  Due to large carnivals and the GP, there will be some impact to our sessions, so I’ll communicate that weekly from now on.

TA Tent:
it will be up and in full swing over the weekend.  You will be able to drop your bag off and know it will be safe during your race.  If you are available to help with set up on Saturday morning or pack down on Sunday, that would be greatly appreciated.

Tri Kids: Anyone who is available and would like to help with the kids race, can we please get you to email [email protected].  Start time is 6:50am in transition.

Elwood Coaching
Pre-Race Recon

Be familiar with the race course, blow out any cobwebs and try out everything you want to use on race day.
Bring all swim, bike, run gear and be prepared for any combination.  

The session will involve a ride along the bike course, a run along part of the run course and an open water swim at the end.

Date: Saturday 5th March
Time: 7am
Meeting Point: Elwood Beach

Everyone meets next to the Life Saving Club.  You will be riding first, so come prepared.  Once you get back, you will head out for a run and this will be followed by a swim.  Then it would be great if you can give Ollie a hand with tent set-up.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

*** Taper Week ***

Monday 28th Feb:

  • 6.15pm - All athletes – Squad Swimming at MSAC.  Session will begin with dryland band warm up.  Also bring pool buoy, paddles, fins, etc.  Outdoor pool.  All athletes to adhere to MSAC entry protocols. 


Tuesday 1st March: 

  • 5.45am - All athletes - Run session at Albert Park Lake.
  • 6am - TTT#6 - Run session with Coach Ollie from the south end of Albert Park Lake.
  • 6pm - Long Course athletes – wind trainer session with The General (link in programs).
  • 6pm - Short Course athletes & TTT – wind trainer session with Coach Gaz (link in programs).


Wednesday 2nd March:

  • 5.45am - All athletes – Squad Swimming at MSAC.  Session will begin with dryland band warm up.  Also bring pool buoy, paddles, fins, etc.  Outdoor pool.  All athletes to adhere to MSAC entry protocols. 


Thursday 3rd March:
  

  • 6pm - Short Course & TTT#5 combo - athletes will complete a brick session of structured bike/run intervals followed by open water swim/skills, with Coach Gaz 
  • 6pm - Long Course combo - athletes to prioritize a quality run set.  Open water swim only if time permits, with Coach Greg.
  • 6pm - Advanced athletes - run session only for those with it programmed, with Coach Ollie.
  • 6.30pm - Try the Tri program #6


Friday 4th March:

  • 5.45am - All athletes – Squad Swimming at MSAC.  Session will begin with dryland band warm up.  Also bring pool buoy, paddles, fins, etc.  Outdoor pool.  All athletes to adhere to MSAC entry protocols. 


Saturday 5th March:

  • 6am - Long Course athletes – will be riding programmed distances from Elwood
  • 7am - Short Course athletes – pre-race recon session at Elwood Beach.
  • 9.30am - Try the Tri session - at Elwood Beach

 
Sunday 6th March:

  • 2XU Race #5 at Elwood
  • Good luck to all those racing
  • Those training, come along to support at the same time!
