HELLO SHINY NEW WEEK

weekend-riding-2

New weeks always seem to bring with them the idea of new possibilities.  And maybe even more so with a new week in Build Week #1. Time to put any excuses aside.  Time to reset and refocus (if that has been a challenge of late).  Time to get started on the right foot and make a plan to get yourself ready.  Tri season is just around the corner and will literally be here before you know it.  And cramming won’t work….trust us on this one…so don’t leave it any longer to start your build.  Now is a GOOD time!

It’s also a good time as NEW programs are up for the month ahead, as on Monday morning.  Just a reminder that the next month’s programs cannot be loaded onto your profile until the current one has expired, so your patience on ‘changeover’ day each month is very much appreciated.  Rest assured, we know you want them and they are there to be loaded…it’s just a delicate manoeuvre (something that CM2 will eradicate!).  You’ll also note that we will be moving out of the Winter Base phase (strength/endurance) and be moving into the Strength/Endurance + Speed training phase.  Sessions will focus more on threshold with a combination of strength and speed, and incorporate endurance for our long course athletes.

This week we are sending our very best wishes Trea’s way.  She is heading over to South Africa to take on the 70.3 World Champs this Saturday, in what will arguably be the biggest race of her triathlon career!  Trea has spent many hours working towards her goal, of smashing her race and we’ve watched her build, strengthen and grow over this journey.  It’s only fitting that we took some time to see how she’s feeling, behind the smile, going into race week.  And from one champ to another, Michelle has taken some time this week to share her reflection on Run Larapinta.  This may become one of those races that simply must go on your ‘to-do’ list.

We’ve got a couple of things going on around the squad (all deets below), which you may need to be across.  These include Sweat Testing with Shotz Sports Nutrition (bookings essential), Hoodie production well underway and should be here next week, the Mario Bros raising funds for men’s mental health, Soles for Beautiful Souls campaign, awesome start up TA training kit for some of our newbies and swimming advice from Liz Blatchford on ORCA’s blog spot.  Things to look out for on the social media channels this week include: we’re planning our ride to Kinglake this weekend, but as seems to be the case recently the weather is looking unpredictable, so TBC that one for later in the week.  Wind trainer hire may be limited Tuesday night, so prepare to BYO or stay tuned for further info.  And a heads up for those of you who like to plan WELL in advance (yes…we know who you are!), next week’s run session will be moved from the Tan, due to the first Qualifying Final between the Tiges and the Hawks at the G.  No one wants to deal with that traffic (or those fans) after work!

Ok….seems a bit higgledy-piggledy but hey, there’s method in the madness….somewhere!  And if all else fails, just get in touch with us.  We’re happy to clear up anything I’ve made messy or that isn’t quite clear!  But for now, I really think you should all just….R…E…A…D    O…N…!

#AdventuresOfSharkAndSteph

This week's antics involve a revist from our special guest....Dr Garry.  With unfinished business in the blog department, Gaz has had time to put pen to paper (between all his Kona training) to bring you the latest installment of his reflections from our Thailand Training Camp at Thanyapura.

"So I hope everyone’s been waiting for the answers to the “Pants” puzzle!  But before we get into that (hahahaha), I’d like to say a few things about the camp in general."

Michelle's Run in the Red Centre

We all saw the incredible pics last week from Michelle's adventure to Alice Springs as part of the Run Larapinta event.  Since then she's had time to put pen to paper to give us her top 5 tips about her time.

SHOTZ SWEAT TESTING

Don't Leave It To Chance!

Do you have a low, moderate or high concentration of sodium in your sweat? Do you know how much sodium you lose in sweat? Did you know that the sodium concentration in an individuals sweat can range from as low as 300 mg to as high as 3000 mg of sodium per one litre of sweat?

Well, Darryl Griffiths from Shotz Sports Nutrition can provide you with all the answers you need and  with the confidence to get you through your race in peak condition.  We’ll be offering a Sweat Testing opportunity during our wind trainer session at MSAC on Tuesday 4th September.  This will help you learn the sodium concentration of your sweat – and by knowing how much you lose, you’ll know how much you need to replace!

* Bookings Essential
* Cost $149.00
* Payable directly to Daz on the night
* Bring 2 x bottles of fluids
* Weigh in pre and post session

FREE SHOES

Putting Soles on the Feet of Beautiful Souls

That’s right, shoes…that are free!! Free for children who currently live in poverty and literally can’t afford shoes…or socks for that matter.  This is where I’m calling upon the amazing TA family to PLEASE HELP!

During my recent travels to Sri Lanka, I was fortunate enough to visit a school and meet some incredible young kids. They are the poorest of the poor. They have very little but were so full of life and love.  I am currently taking shoe donations (including socks) with an aim to collect a minimum of 400 pairs – one pair for every child at the school.

Many of us, including our children, siblings, nieces, nephews etc have a pair of runners that don’t see the light of day and just sit in the back of the cupboard. These pre-loved shoes can literally come back to life and potentially be the first pair of shoes these children will ever own. For some, this will be something they will never forget. But please make sure they are still in reasonable condition.

If you can help, please bring whatever you can to training sessions and I will take them off your hands. I will be attending the TA movie night at the Jam Factory also, so you can bring them along then too.  Thank you legends!!

Perfect Start Up Kit

We have recently been contacted from a member who has some TA kit that is not getting much use.  She'd like to see it go to a good home.  There are a number of pieces, which would be great for someone getting into the sport and just starting out in this somewhat expensive sport of ours!  Everything is about Size 12 and some pieces are like new!  If you are interest shoot me an email and I will put the owner in touch with you.  Just let me know what catches your eye!

Eddy's Pick of the Week

For those needing a little motivation to get out the door, here's a Ted Talk to watch or listen to from Janine Shepherd. It's not about triathlon, but I guarantee everyone will take something from this one, whether it be for training motivation or otherwise!

Aspiring Olympic skier Janine Shepherd was nearly killed when she was hit by a truck during a training bike ride. Paralysed and immobile for six months, she was given a grim picture for recovery. But not only did she teach herself to walk again— she learned to fly.

ORCA Australia

Recently, ORCA contacted pro triathlete Liz Blatchford for her tips on how to improve your body position in the water.
"You can see in the video how this drill helps you to keep your body in a horizontal position as much as possible without exerting a lot of effort, so that it comes more naturally and you're not forcing yourself into a new bad position."
