NEVER, EVER GIVE UP

Melbourne

Hooray! We did it! Happy first day out of lockdown! It felt like we may never get there but we didn't give up and...all of a sudden, it feels like we have smashed this second wave out of the park! Tears of joy were shed by many across Melbourne as we heard that the city we love so dearly would be unlocked this week. Families and friends to be reunited, and shops, cafes and restaurants to reopen...amongst many other restrictions being eased. It is certainly a happy time and whether you celebrated with donuts or the beverage of your choice, it is without a doubt a time we will not forget in a hurry!

The Tri-Alliance Virtual Race Series also came to an end this week with Race #6 of the series, a whopping 41.5km and plenty of climbing in Yorkshire. Race #6 was double points which really mixed things up on the leaderboard for some categories. Read on for results but stay tuned for next week with special prize winner announcements!

Congratulations to everyone who raced over the past 5 or so weeks, it has been absolutely brilliant to see everyone re-connecting and coming together (virtually). We are so happy that the focus of a race series has brought back much needed motivation and inspiration for everyone involved, as well as a healthy dose of competition with friends!

Those who expressed interest in our virtual training camp will have received an email this week that camp will not be going ahead as we are busy preparing for the return of some face-to-face sessions but don't forget our second race series kicks off on Sunday 8 November, and this time both riding and running will feature - and perhaps even a swim or two! Stay tuned for more detail.

This week is recovery week, so take the time to rest, recover and spend time with family and friends you have not been able to see for weeks or months! Allied health have also been given the go ahead to resume unrestricted so it's the perfect time to book in to your favourite physiotherapist or myotherapist - read on for details and the link to our friends at Lakeside SMC.

Most of us are also treated to another long-ish weekend this week, don't forget there will be no coached sessions on Tuesday 3rd November due to Melbourne Cup Day.

This week we also feature another video especially for those heading back out onto the road to ride. Another healthy feature recipe, as well as training updates and the opportunity to check in with Head Coach Ollie.

Whilst it is exciting times with our newfound freedoms but it's been a long, exhausting year and it's very normal to still be feeling a little lacking in motivation or good vibes, or to be apprehensive of heading back out into the world...so don't forget to still check in with others to make sure they are okay - why not check in with them face to face!? If you can, please reach out if you need some support or someone to connect to during this time. Supporting each other no matter what is the TA way, and the Tri-Alliance family is all stronger for it.

#TAVRS2020

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who raced Race #6, the final race of the Tri-Alliance Virtual Race Series. We can't quite believe the series is over but we are over the moon with the positive vibes and achievements radiating from every single one of the more than 40 athletes involved over the six races.

Race #6 Results are in and we finished the series with points awarded as per placings on the 2019 UCI Road World Championship course in Yorkshire. Congratulations yet again to Juliet Forsyth who won for the women and Jimmy Tyler who took out the win for the men. Check out the link below for full race results.

For those that tuned in to the race, Coach Greg returned to the commentary box with coaches Gaz and Steph...not forgetting once again, the supreme efforts of Coach Scotty who manages to race and commentate simultaneously. There were more cycling tips, Yorkshire fun facts and an exciting race with a few bunches forming and a breakaway to finish!

If you missed the coverage, or couldn't quite hear over the sound of your windtrainer and heavy breathing, check out the video on the results page below.

Training Reminders

We thought the world was our oyster last week, and look where we are now! Restrictions have eased and we are out of lockdown but it's not back to normal, there's still a long way to go as Melbourne, and Victoria, works towards a COVID normal way of life.

The same applies for the return of our face-to-face sessions. Firstly, our focus for the next fortnight is on recovery week (particularly for athletes who raced) and spending quality time with family and friends. Whether it's a picnic with your family, meeting a friend for a coffee in a cafe or meeting up with some training buddies for a ride, make the most of this time and the opportunity to connect with the people you love. We've worked hard for this moment and many people have made significant sacrifices and we think it's really important to acknowledge this. The benefits of the socialising we are now permitted to do is endless too and will only make you a better athlete, employee, friend or family member!

Secondly, we are busy working behind the scenes to plan our return to face-to-face sessions. However, these sessions won't look like they used to and there will be a lot of protocols involved to meet requirements. There will be number limits and as such, bookings required. As always, we will follow the DHHS guidelines and will update you with more detail as soon as we can.

In the meantime, our virtual training continues with the aim of keeping you happy, healthy and motivated. Thank you again to those who continue to take the time to let us know how much they are enjoying their training or the race series, we love to hear it and it really helps us to keep doing what we're doing!
