Did Someone Mention a Week of Rest?

It's Recovery Week! This is exactly what many of you have been holding on for.

Once again, the weather gods were kind to us, and we had a terrific weekend as a team. Check out highlights on our Facebook page

This week we slow down a bit but with a few active recovery sessions - note that this will not be every recovery week, just as we get into the rhythm of things. Speaking of which, be sure to check out the article we've included that explain periodised training.  Exactly what we prescribe to.  We will also have two key sessions this week; That's right, FTP bike testing and Time Trial run at Albert Park! Remember how we tested ourselves not too long ago? Well, it's that time again to measure your improvement. Make sure to get the most out of these sessions by having plenty of rest,  focusing on hydration and maybe hitting the ocean for a nice ice bath dip (legs only 10-15mins).

TUESDAY FTP Testing - 6pm (Online)
With Coach Greg (LC look out of out for your Zwift invite)
and SC athletes with Gary
THURSDAY Time Trial - 6pm (Albert Park)
6pm from MSAC front entrance

Many people had the privilege of attending Jordan's Strength Training for Injury Prevention and Performance Seminar last week. All of us can gain information and experience from Jordan's expertise. Continue reading for more information about our unique program that was created only for TA Athletes and how you can get on board.

Enjoy Recovery week and see you at your next session  😎

Strength Training for Injury Prevention & Performance Seminar

Jordan's athlete information session on strength training for injury prevention and performance took place last week and some of you had the honour of attending. It was a very insightful explanation of how strength training may be used in conjunction with traditional triathlon training, particularly to protect you from common injuries. As was indicated throughout the workshop, Lakeside Sports Medicine, through Jordan Cook, has created a specific program just for TA athletes. Please see the attached flyer for all the information.

To get involved, you just need to send an expression of interest directly to Jordan below.

Periodisation

β€œThe goal with periodisation is to maximise your gains while also reducing your risk of injury and the staleness of the protocol over the long term.”

Periodisation is the breakdown of a training year into smaller, easier-to-manage periods with the aim of managing and coordinating all aspects of training to help an athlete perform at their best during the most crucial competition or managing performance throughout a protracted in-season.

Periodisation is a great way to approach resistance training regimens. It is the deliberate adjustment of training variables (load, sets, and repetitions) in order to maximise training adaptations and to prevent the onset of overtraining syndrome.

Training Peaks recently released a good article that helps explain this in one easy to read page.  Check it out below.
