What a Week to Dive Back In, Team!

We kicked off the week with the Australia Day public holiday - hopefully, you all made the most of the day off, soaked up the searing heat, and are feeling refreshed and ready to tackle Build Week 1. It’s the start of a new training cycle, so let’s get stuck in and lay down the groundwork for a strong race season ahead.

This week, we’re welcoming Ollie back on deck - great to have him back at the helm! At the same time, we send our best wishes to Coach Gaz, who will be “indisposed for some time” as he goes in for some important repair work on his breathing apparatus (his words, not ours!). Gaz encourages everyone to make it to his Tuesday night wind trainer session before he heads off - let’s send him off with a full house of energy and effort!

A special shout-out to those athletes who took part in the Kieser Great Bayside Swim on Saturday! It’s fantastic to see our squad challenging themselves and stepping into different multisport events. These moments not only build confidence but also round out your skills as an athlete. Well done to everyone who took on the open water - it’s all part of becoming a more complete triathlete!

We’ve also got a hot topic in this week’s newsletter: T1 and T2 tips. Races can be won and lost in transitions, and those precious seconds count! Don’t let all the hard work on the swim, bike, and run be undone by unnecessary faffing around in the transition zones. We’ve included a summary in the newsletter, along with a link to an extended version for those who want to dive deeper.

Speaking of races, Race #4 at Sandringham is fast approaching - just under two weeks to go now! There’s no time to be complacent; race day always rolls around quicker than you think. If you haven’t entered yet, the details are below. Let this be your reminder to dig deep and stay consistent in your training. Every session between now and then is an opportunity to sharpen your skills, build your fitness, and boost your confidence.

All sessions this week are updated on the timetable and are running as planned, so no excuses.  Let’s show up, put in the work, and keep the momentum going.

Here’s to another big week, team! 💪

Transitions for the Seasoned Triathlete

Alright, team - let’s talk transitions.

For many of you, this might feel like old news: you’ve raced for ages, and you know what T1 and T2 entail. Yet time and time again, we see the same small mistakes crop up - wetsuits stuck at ankles, helmets flung in the wrong spot, or run shoes buried under everything else.

Think of transitions as “easy money” in a race. You’ve already done the hard yards in training, so why forfeit free seconds to sloppy planning? Even if you feel like a veteran, trust me: a little refresher can go a long way. Muscle memory only takes you so far if you haven’t physically walked through T1 and T2 in months.

It’s not rocket science - just consistency. Lay out your gear the same way every time. Practice slipping off that wetsuit cleanly. Double-check you’re racking the bike smoothly. And yes, elastic laces might sound basic but watch how many newbies (and sometimes us “old hands”) lose time tying laces under race-day pressure.

Most importantly, keep your mind in the game. Even if you’ve done 20 races, nerves can still sneak up and turn a simple transition into a frantic shuffle. Visualise a calm, methodical process - and then go practice it. No more faffing around as you move through transition in training — treat every session like it’s race day. Practice makes perfect.

Remember, no matter how many races you’ve completed or how “pro” you think you are, skipping transition drills is never an option. Let’s show everyone what we’ve got come Race #4, and that includes breezing through T1 and T2 like the seasoned athletes we are.
