RECOVERY WEEK - LEAD BY EXAMPLE

Triathlon-Blokes

That’s right…It’s come around again so quickly; Recovery Week!  Our 3-week periodization cycle enables your bodies to adapt and grow in performance, whilst also giving you adequate rest time to rejuvenate and reap the benefits of all your hard work.  So, no Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions on Recovery Weeks (check out our article of foam rolling to keep you moving) and less intensity during scheduled sessions.  If in doubt, consult your programs (or a coach).  And on that, new programs are up for March!  All short and long course members should log in to their dashboard now and ensure their programs are there.  It’s important to let us know if yours is MIA…it’s good to take some responsibility for your training and know what you have programmed, ask questions if you don’t know why and follow our philosophy – Training With Purpose.

It’s also IM New Zealand Race Week!  We have 2 athletes competing; Cynthia McLarty's debut IM race (online athlete consulted by Ollie) and Jimmy Tyler’s time to shine (Greg’s personalised athlete).  Check out the details on how to track them both as they take on Taupo.  We had loads of athletes out and about over the weekend; triathlon-ing down at Barwon Heads, swimming with the jellies in Brighton and also across the Rottnest Channel in WA, duathlon-ing on the Gold Coast (last minute change to race format), and life-saving in Lorne.  Read the Weekend Wrap Up for details on all our amazing athletes!  Our Ambassadors are at it again, interviewing another legend in the TA crew and Giant South Yarra have crazy deals on for us at the moment.  There’s also lots of changes happening this weekend, so make sure you know when and where the weekend sessions are taking place, the impact of the Corporate Triathlon and the changes to Beach Rd that’ll affect cars and bikes.

It's time to meet another memebr of the TA Family, and our Ambassadors simply couldn't go past one of our longer-standing members, in Geoff Houston!  There's a lot you don't know about this quiet-achiever.  Time to see what makes him tick!

4 Reasons Why You Should Be Using An Exercise Foam Roller

There is often a fine line between hard training and over-training. Athletes can adopt strategies to promote sufficient recovery, including body maintenance.  Massage and flexibility should not be seen as a chore; rather as a training session in order to prepare the body for your next hard training session. Self-massage is a cost-effective way to save yourself some dollars and can be achieved through using a foam roller.  Foam rollers will go a long way in improving your flexibility and recovery post training. Here are our top 4 reasons why all individuals undertaking exercise should use a foam roller.

Destination Race

Have you entered Race #5 on the 18th March?  We love this race weekend on our calendar – such great location, different course (#notbeachroad) and the vibe is awesome.  If you haven’t been down, you simply must make this part of your schedule!   We usually make a weekend of it, heading down Friday and coming home either Sunday night or Monday morning and find it easier to book a house a share with our crazy crew.  If you're looking for someone to bunk with, need a lift down or simply want some advice, shoot us an email and we'll put you in contact with others in a similar situation.

BEACH RD WORKS

Brighton Main Sewer Upgrade Project

Melbourne Water will start works to upgrade the 100 year old Brighton Main Sewer from Monday 5 March 2018.  Running under Beach Road, it has been servicing the Brighton and Hampton areas since 1907. Recent inspections of the sewer have revealed it is in poor condition and needs to be rehabilitated.

Changes to traffic conditions

Some disruptions and delays are expected while these works are underway. Beach Road will continue to be accessible to all road users however please allow extra time for travel. All road users will be subject to a reduced speed limit of 40km/h and some lane closures will be necessary while works are underway on the road.  To avoid any frustration we encourage you to seek an alternate route.

Construction hours for early works will be Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm. Works to reline the sewer will be staged so as to minimise disruption to peak hour traffic. They will be undertaken over a continuous period that will incorporate both day and night shifts.

Cyclists and Pedestrians

We have been working closely with Bicycle Network and Bayside City Council to develop solutions to best interface with cyclists and pedestrians.

Work crews and traffic controllers will work proactively with cyclists. We ask that cyclists be aware that changes to the road surface and traffic conditions will impact how they ride, and to remain mindful of pedestrians and other road users when riding on or near a works zone.
