Recovery Time!

It's Recovery Week!

You are probably tired of hearing from us about the value of recovery weeks and the need to give your body the time it needs to heal. But we will never stop! For our newbies out there, it is important to understand the various training phases we are in and the rationale behind our actions. Periodisation is the term for this. The main goal of periodisation is to boost gains while reducing injury risk and long-term staleness of the protocol.
Periodisation is the division of a training year into smaller, simpler time frames with the goal of managing and coordinating all training-related activities.  This aids an athlete in giving their best performance during the most important competition or managing performance over a protracted in-season.
A great way to approach resistance training programs is through periodisation. To maximise training adaptations and avoid the onset of overtraining syndrome (and end up like Coach Sez), deliberate adjustment of training variables (load, sets, and repetitions) is necessary. Training Peaks released a good article that helps explain this in one easy to read page. Check it out here

A reminder that Jordan's dedicated 6-week strength program starts THIS WEEK. Now is the perfect time to focus on your strength! Don't miss out of this special offer just for TA athletes. Get in touch with Jordan NOW and book in if you haven't already. This is ideal for athletes wanting to get stronger, better and faster this winter 💪

If anyone is interested in signing up for the 2XU Wellness Run happening on 3rd December, we have a 10% discount for all our members.  Just be sure to select us (Tri-Alliance) as your squad when registering and the discount will be applied at checkout.  Enter Here

 Training updates for Recovery Week:

  • Monday, Wednesday & Friday swims are back to normal.
  • Tuesday morning run is not on this week (recovery week)
  • Thursday hot laps are not this week (recovery week)
  • Thursday night Socialising - Dinner at Arcadia post-run.
  • Saturday ride, all groups will ride together from Modi.

And last, but not least, we want to send our very best wishes and good luck vibes all the way over to Samuel in Canada.  This weekend he will tackle the massive goal he set himself - Canada Man XTri.  The event has been described as:
"Raw, extraordinary, exhilarating. The race was brutal, it was beautiful, relentless and as physically tough as anything I've ever done. It is difficult to describe the unique beauty of the landscapes, the endless roads and the huge lakes surrounded by steep and forested hills. You have to live it to believe it."
Best of luck mate!

That's it from us.......See you at your next session!

Strength Session with Jordan

More Strength with Jordan

As we make our way through the off-season, we encourage you to remember to shift your focus and prioritize an aspect of training that is often overlooked: building strength. While endurance and cardiovascular fitness are crucial for triathlon success, developing strength during this period can significantly enhance your speed and overall performance in the upcoming race season. Strength training not only helps to prevent injuries by strengthening muscles and connective tissues, but it also improves power output, efficiency, and resilience during demanding race conditions. By incorporating targeted exercises that target key muscle groups used in swimming, cycling, and running, we can lay a solid foundation for success. Let's seize the opportunity below from Jordan (Lakeside Sports Medicine Centre) to strengthen our bodies and take our triathlon game to the next level!

SHOPPING

winter-cycling-gear

“There’s no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing choices.”

When you’re riding on a cold, wet and windy day, you want to be as warm and as comfortable as you can. We have a guide for those new to Winter riding, to help you avoid learning from a very cold and miserable experience of your own!

The guide talks about a lot of gear and you can wear some or (like me) often all of it at once. The key is LAYERS. Even on the coldest day, you will heat up as you grind up the hills and then become freezing cold as the wind slices through you on the descents or you hit a gully where it appears all the cold air was hiding and waiting to slap you off your bike!
