THE END OF SUMMER

im-geelong-70-3-team-finish

I'm afraid so :(  Sunday marks the first day of Autumn and the end of Summer.  Although really Melbs......as much as we L~O~V~E our warm weather, one could be forgiven for being a little confused about just what time of year it is.  Why is it that you decide to warm up now as we get ready to say goodbye?

Talking about weather...how things heated up over the weekend with Ironman rolling into town.  Geelong 70.3 did not disappoint with a weekend full of sunshine, smiles and sensational long course racing!  We had some stellar results with first-timers, PB's, speedy times, World Qualifiers and overall awesomeness. Thanks to all the support crew who travelled down the highway to rev up, cheer on, hose down and generally just be there for our teammates.

And whilst we're thinking about teams, think about steering clear of Elwood this Sunday, unless you want to get caught up in the 1800 teams taking part in the Corporate Tri!!!!   (ah..no thanks).  Details below about what's going on.  And make no mistake, it will impact our sessions with more people in the area - so allow more time to commute and park!

And if that's not enough, we've also included:
* Race report from Team Rotto
* Introduction to Lakeside's newest physio
* Final call for technique clinics to give you the edge
* Schedule of road closures for the Grand Prix
* Upcoming changes to MSAC sessions over GP week

Do it now.  Sometimes later become never.

IRONMAN ROCKS G-TOWN

Congrats To All Our 70.3 Finishers

Ironman 70.3 Geelong was a huge success over the weekend.  We had over 22 athletes take to the start line to compete in their age groups and a further 16 racing as part of a team.  Way to represent the TA colours!!!

It was a calm day on a flat and fast course, so we expected some quick times.  None faster than Dan, who smashed the course in 4hrs 24mins.  Hot on his heals was Archie finishing sub 4hrs30, then Cuzzy, James, Alan, Scotty, Jules and Jimmy all going sub 5hrs.

Quick Stats:
Fastest swim - Cuzzy 25mins
Fastest ride - Archie 2hrs18
Fastest run - Dan 1hr28
Top 5 Finisher - Jules 4th
Top 10 Finishers - Dan 6th, James 8th, Cuzzy 9th, Mr Bondy 9th

Shout out to Rach, Monty and Jenny all going the distance for the first time, to all our team competitors who took on the new challenge and to team TimTam and TriHards who finished 5th and 6th.  Check out all the results below.

Congrats On An Amazing Achievement

This hard-working team conquered the 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island over the weekend in 9hrs 21mins!

“It was a wet and gloomy start for the annual race but that did not dampen the spirits of up to 2400 participants.  Swimmers hit the water just before 6am with a sea of family and friends cheering them on from the shore.  Supported by hundreds of paddlers, skippers and crew, organisers say Saturday morning's conditions were ideal for swimmers and skippers with light winds" (reported by perthnow.com.au)

Have a read of how the team felt after they finished.

Road Closures at Albert Park Lake

ICYMI - the set up for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix commenced in early January and as the event nears (12-15 March 2020), the number of cars, trucks and infrastructure increases in the Albert Park Lake area. This, as well as the road closures listed below, impacts a number of our training sessions and general access to the area.

We will keep you up to date each week with detailed information for particular sessions but at this stage, the main focus is for those who attend Thursday morning hot laps. Please take extra care at this session the road set up may have changed since the week prior or there may be additional obstacles in the way, there can be water on the road due to extra watering (they have to make Melbourne look good with nice green grass...of course!) and there may be temporary stops or navigation required around vehicles entering, exiting and stopping on the road.

We have also included the road closure information below, please be mindful that the road has already commenced closures from 7am when choosing where to park before a session!
