NEVER GIVE UP

Queenscliff

Seven weeks down, maybe only three to go?! The best bit is that this is the LAST time for 2020 that you have to listen to me rabbiting on about the fact that Spring is coming! This time next week, we'll be there!! And with COVID-19 case numbers on the decrease, sunlight hours on the increase and being potentially on the downhill of Stage 4...it's fair to say we can start to get positive about the better times that await us! Perhaps being allowed to spend more than one hour outside? Or being able to ride a little further afield? Oh the simple things that bring us so much joy. It's ok to dream...but let's not get too ahead of ourselves just yet!

As mentioned last week and the week before and the week before that...you get my drift! This is not, I repeat not, the time to be breaking PBs or pushing yourself beyond your limits. We will be back in a place where that's what we're aiming for soon enough but in the mean time, it's important to keep active for your mental and physical health, to make the most of your hour of outside time and to keep connected with family and friends...and that best bit is, we make it really easy to do that with our Go Virtual sessions!

It is hard to believe but we find ourselves in recovery week once again this week, time flies when you're having fun (ha ha)! This recovery week, in particular, will be welcomed with open arms by all of those who completed FTP and run time trials in the last fortnight. It's also welcomed by Ambassador Andrea and Coach Steph who have just finished a 6 week virtual race series #IsoCup, read more about this below.

Speaking of racing...we promised you a few weeks ago that we had some exciting ideas in the pipeline and we are very happy to let you know that we have our very own virtual race series and training camp in the works! This time last year, we were just a couple of weeks out from our Queenscliff Camp and whilst we are all sad to not be heading down there again, we thought we'd bring camp to us! More details to come as we work out the exact details but stay tuned for some virtual races and training camp.

This week we also bring you some great deals from Garmin, just in time for Father's Day...or to treat yo'self! We have another savoury recipe to try for your lockdown cooking, as well as a brilliant article from one of our very own that shares a refreshing perspective on life in lockdown.

As always, remember to please reach out if you need some support or someone to connect to during this time. Don't forget to check in with others as well to make sure they are okay. Supporting each other no matter what is the TA way, and the Tri-Alliance family is all stronger for it.

Training Reminders

Whilst we are getting excited and looking forward to more sunshine, warmer days and better times, we also have new programs to look forward to! Our strength block ends and our next phase of training kicks off in mid-September with our pre-race phase so mark your diaries and start dreaming of those ROTB (Runs Off The Bike)!

For now however, we are in recovery week and week 4 of Stage 4 Restrictions! We hope your virtual training continues to keep you happy, healthy, motivated and that you are using, not abusing, your 1 hour of outside time. Don't forget that currently, we are permitted to exercise outside our home with only one other person for no more than one hour and within a 5km radius of your home. However, since our newsletter last week the rules have been changed to allow you to drive to exercise within your 5km zone!

This means that athletes are required to use their discretion in following the program and to be creative in how you get your session done (indoors, split days or give yourself a break!).

Our Go Virtual timetable is as below and all sessions can be accessed via the Go Virtual link in your program.

Overview:
Monday – 6pm Dryland Swim + 7.30pm Flex
Tuesday – 6am Run Intervals + 6pm Wind Trainer + 7.30pm Flex
Wednesday – 7am Strength + 6pm Dryland swim + 7pm Flex
Thursday – 6am Hot Laps (Zwift) + 5pm Run Intervals + Flex (Independent)
Friday – 7am Strength + 6pm Flex
Saturday – 7am Ride (Go Virtual & Zwift) + Flex (Independent)
Sunday – 8am Run + Flex (Independent)

RACE NEWS

Andrea Steph
#IsoCup

It's been a while since we have included any race news but in case you missed it, Ambassador Andrea and Coach Steph have been testing out their Liv Langma's over the last 6 weeks in Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club's Iso Cup.

The 12 race series saw women and men racing every Tuesday night and Sunday morning over the 6 weeks. The virtual series took racers to courses in London, Berlin, California as well as a few courses closer to home in Warragul, Sandown, and the 1 in 20 climb, with the final race taking place in the very familiar surrounds of Beach Road, Black Rock!

Racing was tightly contested with women from across the State, including Justine Barrow and Kerry Gigante (Sarah Gigante's mother). Steph found her legs in the second half of the series with 4 wins and Andrea won Women's B Grade overall with 6 first place wins. Congratulations!

Recipe of the week

Another savoury recipe this week, and a vegetarian and vegan friendly one at that! This is a classic Indonesian recipe but don't be scared off, it is a great way to use up leftover veggies and involves peanut butter...a triathlete's dream!
