BRING ON THE FREEDOM

Any else have a little sense of déjà vu?  Sunday rolls around and we have a positive announcement from our premier.  Yes, please and thank you!  Just like the earlier achievement of 70% vaccinated, we’re thrilled that the 80% DD opening up date is also being brought forward.  So, this week’s newsletter is all about training.  Where you should be and when and how!  Because let’s face it…that is what you really want to know right now.

Let’s begin with swimming.  Following chats with MSAC last week, we are all booked in and ready to start our pool squad sessions from 5.45am on November 5.  So, between now and then, all swim sessions will be open water at Elwood Beach.  Please note the later morning start times as we wait for sunrise.  We also know the bay has looked particularly ‘dirty’ over the last couple of days.  DELWP have confirmed this is due to displaced mud and silt and there is no health warning for swimming.  So back in the water you go!  Please note that Ollie is asking all athletes to bring bands to every session, as well as the usual swimming toys.  Of course, we are now expecting our bookings at MSAC to be brought forward, in line with the reopening, but until that is confirmed we will go with the schedule below.  We will communicate as soon as things change.

Onto riding, our three sessions this week will be online wind trainer (no change – refer to links in programs), Thursday morning Hot Laps for intermediate/advanced athletes (check your programs to see if this has been scheduled for you) and Saturday morning (long ride or combo).  It's a good time to give your bikes a once-over and ensure they are Mickey Mouse for the road, as well as check your TA apparel to make sure it still fits!

And lastly, the runs.  Tuesday mornings return.  Please meet Ollie at the South end of Albert Park Lake for a 5.45am start.  Exact details are on the timetable.  Thursday nights will see all athletes running in some capacity at Elwood.  And Sunday long runs can be completed with your training buddies from Elwood at 8am.  Quick heads up…. we will be hosting a run session next Tuesday morning.  We usually don’t have sessions on public holidays but given our eagerness to get back to group training and that the following week will be recovery week, we want to keep the momentum going.  Slightly later start, it’ll be 7am at Albert Park Lake.

For those returning to group sessions this week, it is a must at the beginning of every session, every athlete signs in using the QR code.  This will bring up the Service Victoria app and allow you to show the coach your digital vaccination certificate.  Thanks to those who did so over the weekend, it is working well. We will continue using this platform, whilst we update our software, at which time we will let you know that your status can be updated via your dashboard.  HOT Tip: at your first session, save the Tri-Alliance location to your favourite check-ins in the Service Victoria app.  This will mean it’s a simple one-click at every session thereafter!

It’s pretty bloody exciting to be getting back to some normality, with the prospect of a full summer of racing on the calendar.  We hope you are all as excited as we are, and we can’t wait to catch up with you all.  Please reach out to us if you need to talk about anything, you want more information or you need help with switching your memberships over to be able to attend face-to-face sessions.  As always, we are here to help.  See y’all soon!

Getting Back Together - Melb's Roadmap
Another Sunday and some more good news.  Seems like we're getting to the 80% DD marker sooner than we thought!

Until that time, we are working with the following guidelines:

* From 22 Oct, community sport permitted outdoors only for training.
Fully vaccinated.
Minimum numbers (50 cap, DQ4).
Outdoor swimming pools reopened.
Changing rooms closed.

* From 6pm 29 Oct, community sport permitted indoors
and outdoors with minimum numbers.
Fully vaccinated.
Indoors 150 with DQ4 cap
Outdoors 500 with DQ2 cap.
Indoor and outdoor pools opened.

We know that MSAC and ELSC both have mandatory vaccination requirements, so you will need to adhere to this if training at these facilities.

Whilst we are in the process of updating our software with access for you to confirm your vaccination status via the TA dashboard, our Service Victoria QR code will be at every session.  It will be a must for all athletes to scan this at the beginning of the session and show the coach your digital certificate.

**Little hint - at your first session, save Tri-Alliance under your favourite check-ins on your app to save time!

If you would like to discuss any of the above further, please feel free to reach out to us. We are navigating our way through this as information comes to hand and are always happy to chat if you need to.  There's also a link to the updated roadmap for your information.

Swim Squad @ MSAC

Not sure if we could be any more excited to return to the pool for squad swimming!  And the wait is almost over. MSAC have advised that squad bookings can commence from the 80% DD date, which at this point sees us in back in the pool from Nov 5.  However, with yesterday's announcement we now expect this date to be brought forward.

For now, here are the swim sessions we have timetabled:

Mon 25 Oct - OWS @ Elwood 6pm
Wed 27 Oct - OWS @ Elwood 6.15am
Fri 29 Oct - OWS @ Elwood 6.15am
Mon 1 Nov - OWS @ Elwood 6pm
Wed 3 Nov - OWS @ Elwood 6.15am
Fri 5 Nov - pool @ MSAC 5.45am

We will send updated communication as soon as we know if we can get back in the pool from the start of November...stay tuned!

ELWOOD LIFE SAVING CLUB

Membership Renewal & Registration
We have a long-standing partnership with Elwood Life Saving Club and always look to support the fantastic work they do for the community, both local and triathlon.  That is why we encourage all our athletes to become ELSC members.

** UPDATED ADVICE from ELSC:
LSV has advised that to comply with the latest Victorian Government roadmap, members, employees, industry and community partners, contractors and visitors need to be fully vaccinated from 26 October 2021 to be able to:
* attend an LSV or club facility
* deliver an LSV or club service in person
* participate in an LSV or club activity in person

This applies to all members, excluding those under 12 years of age, unless you have a valid medical exemption.

We respect our members right to choose whether to be vaccinated or not, but unfortunately if you choose not to be vaccinated, you will not be able to participate under the current health orders.  However, we would still welcome and hope that members who do not wish to be vaccinated will retain their membership on the basis that they can return to club activities should the vaccination mandate be removed in the future.  If you have already paid your membership fees and no longer wish to join for this season, please send us an email to [email protected] to request a refund.
