Any else have a little sense of déjà vu? Sunday rolls around and we have a positive announcement from our premier. Yes, please and thank you! Just like the earlier achievement of 70% vaccinated, we’re thrilled that the 80% DD opening up date is also being brought forward. So, this week’s newsletter is all about training. Where you should be and when and how! Because let’s face it…that is what you really want to know right now.
Let’s begin with swimming. Following chats with MSAC last week, we are all booked in and ready to start our pool squad sessions from 5.45am on November 5. So, between now and then, all swim sessions will be open water at Elwood Beach. Please note the later morning start times as we wait for sunrise. We also know the bay has looked particularly ‘dirty’ over the last couple of days. DELWP have confirmed this is due to displaced mud and silt and there is no health warning for swimming. So back in the water you go! Please note that Ollie is asking all athletes to bring bands to every session, as well as the usual swimming toys. Of course, we are now expecting our bookings at MSAC to be brought forward, in line with the reopening, but until that is confirmed we will go with the schedule below. We will communicate as soon as things change.
Onto riding, our three sessions this week will be online wind trainer (no change – refer to links in programs), Thursday morning Hot Laps for intermediate/advanced athletes (check your programs to see if this has been scheduled for you) and Saturday morning (long ride or combo). It's a good time to give your bikes a once-over and ensure they are Mickey Mouse for the road, as well as check your TA apparel to make sure it still fits!
And lastly, the runs. Tuesday mornings return. Please meet Ollie at the South end of Albert Park Lake for a 5.45am start. Exact details are on the timetable. Thursday nights will see all athletes running in some capacity at Elwood. And Sunday long runs can be completed with your training buddies from Elwood at 8am. Quick heads up…. we will be hosting a run session next Tuesday morning. We usually don’t have sessions on public holidays but given our eagerness to get back to group training and that the following week will be recovery week, we want to keep the momentum going. Slightly later start, it’ll be 7am at Albert Park Lake.
For those returning to group sessions this week, it is a must at the beginning of every session, every athlete signs in using the QR code. This will bring up the Service Victoria app and allow you to show the coach your digital vaccination certificate. Thanks to those who did so over the weekend, it is working well. We will continue using this platform, whilst we update our software, at which time we will let you know that your status can be updated via your dashboard. HOT Tip: at your first session, save the Tri-Alliance location to your favourite check-ins in the Service Victoria app. This will mean it’s a simple one-click at every session thereafter!
It’s pretty bloody exciting to be getting back to some normality, with the prospect of a full summer of racing on the calendar. We hope you are all as excited as we are, and we can’t wait to catch up with you all. Please reach out to us if you need to talk about anything, you want more information or you need help with switching your memberships over to be able to attend face-to-face sessions. As always, we are here to help. See y’all soon! |
