Well, it’s been a big 24hrs and it’s certainly not over yet.  Our thoughts are going out to our Cairns crew, who, with under two weeks to go until race day, are undoubtedly anxious.  Without trying to be an alarmist, we all fear we will be facing a likely lockdown in the not-too-distant future, so we appreciate the apprehension amongst athletes.  We are capable of flipping straight into our Go Virtual timetable if needed, so rest assured you won’t miss a beat.  And we’ll communicate as soon as we know any more.  But for now, we will focus on the positives and keep ploughing forward with our heads up.

The hotly anticipated End of Season Party…That Almost Didn’t Happen (that’s its official title) is locked in and ready to go.  We have a private space with an exclusive bar, comfy booths and a dancefloor with a stage (*warming up the dance moves now*) for all those who feel like performing.  We remain super pumped for the opportunity to have as many TA Family members in the one place at the one time.  It’ll be a time to celebrate, a time for laughter and a time for some well-overdue catch ups!  A ticket to our cocktail party will include loads of finger foods, a drink on arrival, drinks at bar prices and everyone is welcome (including partners).  Stay for as much of the night that suits you and bring your dancing shoes.  Link below to book your ticket now.

And if you were lucky enough to secure a place to our upcoming Winter camp, you will be ready to party after all the hard work you put in!  It’s going to be GREAT.  If you haven’t heard by now, this year’s winter camp is venturing a little further down the Great Ocean Road, to take full advantage of all Apollo Bay has to offer, not to mention some amazing riding through the Great Otway National Park.  Apologies now for all the FOMO and pics to come, but that’s life… ‘coz this camp is sold out!

Speaking of Winter, how was that little arctic blast for your ride on Saturday morning?!?!?  No doubt it took some time for some peeps to thaw out.  So, this week’s focus is on Winter Riding – both what to wear and where to get it.

Another area of focus we have over Winter is time trialling.  Some of you may be wondering why the heck we would be testing ourselves in the off season.  Well, lucky for you we have an article to explain exactly why this is!  And to kick it off, next week you will all have a programmed run time trial.  This will take place on Thursday night at Albert Park Lake (not The Tan).  It’ll be a 6pm warm up for a 6:15pm race start.  Meet outside the main entrance ready to leave.  We won’t be hanging around.

Speaking of programs, we are still finding some athletes not on the correct one???  I’ve included a guide as to how to find, change and read your program and also included the link to shout out to us if you need a hand.

Finally, all LC crew can look forward to cycling coaching by Gaz for the next couple of Saturdays – keep an eye out for him at the early morning departure from Elwood.

As we said, we will be in touch as soon as anything changes, or we know any more.  And please reach out to us if you need anything in the meantime.  Fingers crossed Team that this is short lived!

There's No Such Thing As Bad Weather - Just Bad Clothing Choices!

When you’re riding on a cold, wet and windy day, you want to be as warm and as comfortable as you can. This is a guide for those new to Winter riding, to help you avoid learning from a very cold and miserable experience of your own!

Are You Keeping Warm This Winter?

How about those frosty mornings we're starting to have....Hello Winter! Well, you should have heard by now, 'there’s no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing choices'. And we may have seen some...errrmmm...interesting choices over the weekend! When you’re riding on a cold, frosty, wet or windy day, you want to be as warm and as comfortable as you can. I had a look over the weekend at our Winter Cycling range and saw that there's not much left. Don't leave it until it's too late.

TIME TRIALLING

FTP-Test
You Can't Manage What You Don't Measure

Time trials are an important part of our training structure as they allow you (and us!) to monitor your progress over certain training periods to ensure you continue to develop and improve. It’s not just about the time, as conditions can vary over the period of time that we conduct our time trials, however, how you perform and how you recover are strong indications of how you are progressing.

Over the winter months and leading into the main race season, particularly for Sprint, Olympic and Half Ironman racing we concentrate on technique, strength and endurance. Time trials give you an indication of how your strength training is progressing and you should expect to see consistency over time or some improvement. For some of you there will be major gains, for others there will be some minor improvements, and for others you may even go a little slower. You cannot expect to PB every time you time trial, however, you should expect to be around a similar time that you have recorded previously.

Remember, these phases of our training are all about building your expertise, strength, endurance and technique, to get you to the start line where you really do want to swim, bike or run your PB. It’s no good being a star on the training track and then leaving it all behind come race day!
