DON'T STOP WHEN YOU'RE TIRED ... STOP WHEN YOU'RE DONE

riding-mt-martha

Annnnndddd we're not done yet! We are well into the build cycle, with one down and one to go, and the squad is S.T.R.O.N.G!  And I don’t mean only physically.  But the closeness, the camaraderie, the culture of Tri Alliance is as BIG as it has EVER been.  Reflecting on recent times, we can honestly say we are so proud of the way our family bands together, the respectful relationships (equal parts supportive and competitive) we all have, and the fact that you know you can count on one another to have each other's backs when it really matters.  Remember Team, we rise by lifting others.  Today.  And every day.  So, don't stop what you're doing.  It's amazing and it's an incredible family to be part of right now!

This week, we are sending out a whole lotta healing vibes in Jimmy Tyler’s direction.  As you may have heard, our resident late-but-lovable-larrikin had a little spill from his bike over the weekend.  In his own words, “while descending a steep hill at King Lake, this poor bike suffered a front puncture, and despite a gallant battle, eventually bucked its rider with some gusto”.  Jimmy will be out of action for a little while, but no doubt enjoying all the sympathy, care packages (aka boxes of donuts) and some quality time with his wife, watching the impending renovations impatiently sitting idle.  In all seriousness, rest up Jimmy.  We are all wishing you the speediest of recoveries and a pain free rehab journey ahead.

Our Weekend Wrap Up this week highlights the loved-up Jurt (Jacinta & Kurt) gallivanting through the French countryside, following and riding the Tour de France, an awesome hit out in the XCR and an Instagram post of the week from an old friend.

We’ve decided to keep our focus of Pool Etiquette in the spotlight again this week, as we hate to admit, but someone (or someones) maybe didn’t have time to read the Do's and Do Not's when swimming with a squad…..eeek!  So take another week to have a look over.  As we said, some of these are probably a given and some are common courtesy and some are just the nuances of swimming with others in a limited space.  Out of respect for your fellow athletes, have a read over and be in the know the next time you are in the water.

The S&C sessions are going from strength to strength (yes….all puns intended) in the new Athletic Performance Centre at MSAC.  New link up and bookings are open.  This week’s session will have a slightly different format, moving to giving you not only a great strength workout, but one you will be able to replicate at home (specific sets, reps, exercises).  More details from coaches below.

We’ve also got a NEW meet the TA family by the Ambassadors, the Ask-The-TA-Tribe for advice post, Eddy’s movie pick of the week, some save the dates to pencil in your diary, a competition from our friends at Mizuno and the all-important deets for the weekend training sessions.

Oh….and without any jealousy at all (yeah right!) ……we wish all our athletes heading over to Thanyapura an awesome time.  It’s incredible and we know they’re going to love it (and kick butt), but….we’re staying here….so yeah….enjoy ?

Time to  R.E.A.D..O.N  positive peeps!

#AdventuresOfSharkAndSteph

It's time to meet another TA family member, and this time it's one of the nicest guys going around.  This week, it's all about Dil.  Dil joined us fairly recently but has already made some great connections and friendships within the squad.  We love his calmness, his gentle personality and his positive attitude.  Time to learn a little more about Dil.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING FOR TRIATHLON

The past few weeks you’ve learnt the technique, now we are going to give you not only a great strength workout, but one you will be able to replicate at home (specific sets, reps, exercises).

You’ll learn what super setting is to create some variance in your strength training. This is the one you don’t want to miss. Come prepared to work hard and advance your skills.

*Please bring your bands & yoga mat to this session

TRAINING TIPS

Pool Swimming Etiquette

Swimming in a pool is a great way to work on your technique and fitness, however it can be frustrating if swimmers don’t observe ‘swimming etiquette’. To ensure every swimmer has a great swim, do your best to observe and follow the pool rules when squad swimming.

RESISTANCE BANDS

Get Me Some Bands

There's now escaping the wonderful world of BANDS, and we're seeing more and more athletes completing their exercises after each swim set.  Resistance bands are simply a tool that help you replicate any functional movement, while applying a strength enhancing, muscle building resistance. As a result resistance band training will make movements and muscles stronger while simultaneously improving movement coordination.
But...now you need to know where to get your hands on them.  The regular supplier we have been using seems to be out of stock.  You can check them out here: EBAY Supplier or alternatively we've found another supplier offering a deal for 2 sets (highly recommended as 1 set is only 1 length and you need double to do both arms at the same time).  It doesn't matter where you get your bands from - just make sure they have different tensions (colours) and preferably come with handles.  Shop around!

Eddy's Pick - What to Watch
Hi champions!  I hope you’re all well!  Again, my recommendation this week is a podcast. Another very special one ;)

Close your eyes and imagine yourself running a trail ultramarathon in the beautiful Australian outback. You’re enjoying the experience when suddenly you find yourself trapped in a gorge, surrounded by a raging brushfire.  The flames quickly close in until you’re surrounded on all sides.  No escape. This is how it ends, you think. Then darkness.

Against all odds, death is averted. Instead, you lie comatose. Months pass in dormancy. Finally your eyes open, awakening to discover you’re miraculously alive, yet somehow less than whole. A glance at your left hand reveals several fingers missing. On the right? No thumb. And the reason you can’t move? 65% of your body is covered in life threatening burns. Overwhelmed, you allow your eyes once again close, welcoming the comfort of darkness.  200 operations follow. Over the next two years, you will die three times during surgery. Miraculously, you somehow survive. Not as a victim, but as a hero.

This is the powerful story of Turia Pitt– humanitarian, athlete, and beacon of inspiration and female empowerment to millions across the world.
