~Déjà vu…but here we are again…..it’s Race Week! I think we can all be grateful that we are able to get out and race this weekend. As I said, we know Elwood like the backs of our hands, the weather is looking really good and all of you have had a week to recover and reset. Wishing all our crew going around on Sunday the very best. Whether it’s aiming for a new high, challenging yourself with Age Group ITU World Championship Qualifying points and the Australian Sprint Championship or simply just getting out there, we are backing each and every one of you.
Message from the Head Coach…
There’s been a few questions around understanding your programs, so let me update you. With the current race schedule being every 2-weeks, our periodisation will now work in fortnight blocks, taking precedence over our traditional 3-week training cycle. To briefly explain, we will still be training with intensity up to the Wednesday, tapering from Thursday through to race day, recovering until the Tuesday and then increasing our intensity again from the Wednesday onwards, working through for 8 days until we taper again for the next race. This will happen up until the end of March.
Note: the performance gains (if any) will come from recovering off the back of races, as racing is generally pushed at an intensity higher than training. Therefore, recovering from races correctly will be key. Hear this…DO NOT push through or have FOMO from trying to train too much in between races #TrainSmarterNotHarder #TrainingWithPurpose
MSAC swim sessions are continuing at 7pm Mon/Wed and 6am Fri for the month of March, whilst MSAC facilitates numerous swimming carnivals and swim meets. These sessions have been hugely popular and it is timely to remind everyone about pool etiquette and understanding the lingo and format of our swim sessions.
Long Course athletes, this weekend you will be training with Greg from Elwood on Saturday at 6am, but your sessions on Sunday will be uncoached, as all hands are on deck with the 2XU sprint race. Use the FB group to organise your training buddies to get the sessions done.
If you’ve been wanting a new, an update or to get yourself in the market for a training/racing watch, then Garmin have taken $250 off their 945’s. These are great multisports watches and have all the functions you could possibly need, including music!
We have two Try the Tri groups running at the moment. And these groups are AWE-some! They are fun, they give it their all and they are super keen to soak up all the triathlon goodness. You will get a buzz from being around them, and if you are keen to lend a hand…jump on in! It’s a win-win for everyone.
Read below for all the info about upcoming Albert Park track works. This shouldn’t impact our sessions, but as we know, any additional traffic and machinery can often lead to debris and hazards on the road. Just be mindful of the changes being made and the road closures in place.
In this edition, we also have all the race prep links and info you need to get you through this week. From entries, to trisuits, to laces now on the TriShop and the important Kids race callout…we have it all in one place so it’s easy to find.
