RECOVERY WEEK IS DONE - IT'S TIME TO BUILD!

file-22-1-18-3-09-50-pm

Hot, hot, hot!  Anyone else noticing that summer has finally arrived?!?  The sunshine has brought everyone out to play and we’ve had great numbers at all our sessions this week.  Lots of motivated athletes, with big goals ahead, taking heed of those keywords – Consistency Is Key!  With that in mind, and as we enter Build Week 1 on the programs, we expect to see lots of faces (happy ones) at our sessions this week, particularly the key days.  New programs are being written this week, so it's really important we have your goals in mind.  Make sure you've completed your goal survey ASAP.  And don’t forget to seek out a coach if you need advice or want to check in and make sure you’re on the right track.  We’re here to help, so get in touch.

We love hearing stories about our athletes getting out and about, taking on new events and racing and participating around the place.  This week we had our national qualifying hopefuls, Steph and Sheridan, taking a trip down to TAS in search of more points (well worth reading both their race recaps!), 2 sprinters taking on the Portsea Swim Classic and Mr. Friel sneaking into 3rd spot on the crit racing podium!

Lots more below in news this week including some tips for transitioning from bike to run, changes to timetable due to a cycling event at Albert Park Lake and Australia Day, a family BBQ and a cocktail party at Elwood Life Saving Club.  So much going on!

AUSTRALIA DAY

Let's Celebrate

The Australia Day public holiday is this Friday and as such, there is no Friday morning swim session this week.  Sleep in, or grab some buddies and head to the beach for an open water session.  We know lots of athletes are already participating in swim events around Melbourne.

But in the true spirit of celebrating all things Aussie, we thought there's nothing more quintessential than a barbie at the beach. So join us this Thursday night for our Elwood Beach combo session, followed by a sausage as the sun sets.  Great chance to take a few moments to stop and have a chat with fellow athletes, catch up on all the latest goss or make a new friend!

We're asking for athletes to make a gold coin donation on the night, with all funds going directly to the Elwood Life Saving Club.

TOWARDS ZERO RACE MELBOURNE

Thursday Hot Laps - Ammended

The Towards Zero Race around Albert Park will be held on Thursday 25 January, after its hugely successful inaugural event in 2017.  This year it's being held in a twilight timeslot with the highest calibre of domestic and international riders.

Unfortunately, however, road closures begin from 5 am, so Hot Laps will be moved to avoid conflict.

Meet at the same place (out the front of MSAC) for a 5:45am roll out, but crew will be heading along Beach Rd for some time trial efforts.

TRANSITIONING FROM BIKE TO RUN

How to Run Off the Bike

We’ve had loads of athletes talking to us recently about the transition from riding to running and wanting to understand how to become better and more efficient at this.  Make sure you check out the article that Amber, from First Wave Fitness, wrote for WITSUP explaining everything you need to know.

"One of the most unique parts of our sport also happens to be one of the biggest stressors on the body and that is the cycle to run transition. Amber Johnson of First Wave Fitness takes us through the importance of gaining a more functional understanding of your body and staying strong and stable under fatigue, particularly when it comes to running off the bike."

And keep an eye out from the WITSUP crew for part 2 of this article, with exercises and videos to help you nail the ROTB (run off the bike)!

FILL IN YOUR GOAL SURVEY

checklist
Make sure you're ready

With a new year, comes a new set of goals.
What do you want to achieve? How will you achieve it?
By filling out your S.M.A.R.T goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely) you'll not only be able to work towards your goals, but we as coaches will be able assign the right program to help you work towards them. If you are thinking something more specific than what is in our goals survey such as; A race time you're chasing, a step up in distance or something more dialed-in like optimizing your swim stroke from a 2 minute time cycle down to a 1.50 time cycle - Then book in time with a coach to discuss.
We look forward to all of you filling out your goal survey so we can begin to work with you to achieve the outcome you desire.

REMINDER THESE ARE PRE ORDERS & WE NEED TO HIT MINIMUM BEFORE WE CAN PUSH THE BUTTON!

Currently, we have 5 Male and 1 Female Pre-Ordered.  Get behind the new suits and have yours personalised. We are a long way off at this stage.

The 2018 Tri-Alliance Tri-Suit is now available for pre-order, with new, more durable material throughout the short and the ability to add your name to your race getup for an extra $15. The 2018 suit features a high-quality design lower panel and an advanced chamois.

After extensive testing, this suit offers sun protection, no rub points under the arms, golf-ball-like pattern in the upper arms to reduce drag and a heavier grade material from the waist down, meaning no see-through areas and no distortion of colour when it is stretched.
