PERSONAL BESTS ARE EARNED IN WINTER

What a fantastic night we had celebrating the 2018 – 2019 triathlon season.  Over 100 of our nearest and dearest gathered at Elwood Bathers to acknowledge the efforts, achievements and accolades of our Tri-Alliance family.  The atmosphere and camaraderie in the room was heart-warming and we received many complimentary comments about how happy, welcomed, supported, positive and included everyone felt.  We certainly have something special going on, which inspired one athlete to take the time to send us his reflection of The TA Way (read below) following our amazing night!

We’d like to thank you so much for coming along and making it one of the best!  We’d also like to send a special shout-out to all our award winners, including those athletes nominated for each award.  We also want to acknowledge all our squad results from 2XU series place getters, State Series awards and World Champ qualifiers.  Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more information on these.

But right now, there should be just one thing on everyone’s lips and that is LORNE. C’mon…. you know it’s time. Time to jump start that Winter campaign of yours and get yourselves back into the routine. And let’s not forget... also having a weekend away with friends! Deposits for camp must be in by next Monday 27 May, with balances due the following Monday 3 June. If you haven’t had a chance to read our Ambassador’s recap of Lorne, do it now and spare a moment to watch Kez’s video to remind you of all the good times and get you in the mood. Time to put your money where your mouth is! #DontGetFOMO

Over the past weekend, we had a couple of athletes take on the Great Ocean Road Running Festival, there was the Tri Vic State Series awards presented (congratulations Slaine!), athletes working their way towards Ironman Cairns, Challenge Roth and the ever-popular latte ride made its way back to Beach Rd! There always seems to be so much going on, so make sure you drop us a line to keep us up to date with all your results.

WINTER RIDING

There's No Such Thing As Bad Weather

Don't let the recent sunshine and warm temps fool you!

Winter is around the corner and with Lorne Camp fast approaching, now is the time to make sure you have all the gear you need to keep you warm and dry as we climb (and descend) mountains over winter!

TIME TRIALLING

You Can't Manage What You Don't Measure
Time trials are an important part of our training structure as they allow you (and us!) to monitor your progress over certain training periods to ensure you continue to develop and improve. It’s not just about the time, as conditions can vary over the period of time that we conduct our time trials, however, how you perform and how you recover are strong indications of how you are progressing.

Over the winter months and leading into the main race season, particularly for Sprint, Olympic and Half Ironman racing we concentrate on technique, strength and endurance. Time trials give you an indication of how your strength training is progressing and you should expect to see consistency over time or some improvement. For some of you there will be major gains, for others there will be some minor improvements, and for others you may even go a little slower. You cannot expect to PB every time you time trial, however, you should expect to be around a similar time that you have recorded previously.

Remember, these phases of our training are all about building your expertise, strength, endurance and technique, to get you to the start line where you really do want to swim, bike or run your PB. It’s no good being a star on the training track and then leaving it all behind come race day!

Thursday Night Vibes
In case you haven't heard, it’s time to kick start our Thursday night run sessions.  These will be held at The Tan, a track around the around King's Domain and the Botanic Gardens.  Our winter run sessions are great for breaking down your stride, working on your technique and building strength from the ground up.  This session is for ALL athletes and will include technique, hills and interval running.  We meet at 6:10pm next to the trough, opposite the Swan Street Bridge (you can also Google “Pillars of Wisdom” and it’s close to there).  Be ready to start the warm up at 6:15pm, otherwise you may miss the group.  It’s a good idea to bring appropriate layers as it can get quite chilly.

ALTERNATE SESSIONS:
The General will also be running 2 additional sessions over the winter months.  You can meet at the Essendon Rowing Club (Car Park) at 6:15pm on a Thursday night, for a run session along the Maribyrnong River.  And each Sunday you can meet at the Fairfield Park Boathouse (Car Park) at 8:00am for a long run session.  Come to these run sessions prepared for technique, functional strength and stretching activities....and the dulcet tones of The General!

TRI-ALLIANCE FAMILY

Help Zilbo Turn Tragedy to Triumph
THE TRAGEDY: Our mate Lisa (aka Zilbo) is one of the last Zilberprivers. Almost all her extended family was wiped out in the Holocaust.  Lisa's grandparents were the only ones to escape to Israel, where they had their son Yizhaq, but they were so severely traumatised with the deluge of losses, they surrendered him at only three years old to be raised by others.  For decades, Yizhaq has talked about his desire to take his daughter to Auschwitz to honour their lost family together, but Lisa was raised by her Mum in Australia, so the opportunity never presented itself, UNTIL NOW....

THE TRIUMPH:
Zilbo recently completed Challenge Melbourne for the fifth time.  She shocked the pants off herself by QUALIFYING for the Challenge WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP which is staged only weeks from now in Samorin, Slovakia.

SAMORIN IS A COUPLE OF HOURS FROM AUSCHWITZ!!
WE WANT TO HELP LISA AND HER FATHER MEET IN SAMORIN ON 2 JUNE, BECAUSE IT WOULD MEAN THE WORLD TO BOTH OF THEM.
