Greetings, Triathlon Tribe!


What a sensational week it has been.  As we ride the adrenaline wave from a successful Race 3 in St Kilda, it's safe to say that our spirits are soaring.  If only the weather would join us on this wave and allow us to get back in the water, that would be nice! 


Now, as we transition from the intensity of Build Week 2, it's time to embrace the magic of Recovery Week.  Think of it as our much-needed pit stop, where we recharge, rejuvenate, and set the stage for the challenges ahead. During this crucial phase of our 3-week periodisation cycle, it's not just about resting those hard-working muscles (though that's definitely on the agenda!). It's about listening to our bodies, understanding the importance of quality sleep, and indulging in some well-deserved self-care. Hydration becomes our trusted sidekick, and nutritious, wholesome meals are the secret sauce to replenishing our energy reserves. So, let's make the most of this Recovery Week, ensuring we bounce back stronger and ready to tackle whatever the training program throws our way!


Our journey doesn't pause even in the midst of Recovery Week, because we've got some exciting news to share.  Tri-Alliance is rocking the charts in the 2XU Tri Club Championship, currently holding 2nd place. Now, that's no small feat,  but we're not settling – we're aiming for the stars.  So, dust off those rulebooks, because this is where each and every one of you becomes a game-changer, and your contributions matter.

Tri Club Championship

We're currently rocking the triathlon scene, but it's time to turn up the heat in the 2XU Tri Club Competition! This competition is all about showcasing the strength and camaraderie of Victoria's triathlon clubs, and we want TA to shine.

We are currently sitting in 2nd place, which is an awesome result.  But we're not done yet.  So, let's get our heads across the rules to see how you can contribute to the collective success.

Here's the deal:
Every member who competes in a Timed Triathlon – whether it's Olympic, Sprint, or Fun Tri (excludes teams and aquabike) – scores us a solid point. But it gets even better – if you finish in the top five of your category, you'll bag additional points. The best 15 competitors' club points are totaled to calculate the team score for each race.  
Finish Points Bonus Points: 1st = 5pts / 2nd = 4pts / 3rd = 3pts / 4th = 2pts / 5th = 1pt

With three races to go, let's give it our all, push our limits, and see if we can give that top spot a nudge!

WEEKLY TRAINING SCHEDULE

*** COMPETITION PHASE - Recovery Week ***

Monday 22nd January:

6.15pm - All athletes - Squad Swimming at MSAC. Arrive 5 mins early to begin with dryland band warm up. Outdoor 50m pool. 4 lanes + 2 coaches.

Tuesday 23rd January:

6:00pm - All athletes – Wind trainer session at MSAC. Arrive from 6pm to begin setting up. Meet on Level 1, on the walkway overlooking the indoor pool.


Wednesday 24th January:

5.45am - All athletes - Squad Swimming at MSAC. Arrive 5 mins early to begin with dryland band warm up. Outdoor 50m pool. 4 lanes + 2 coaches.


Thursday 25th January:

6:00pm - All athletes - Combo at Elwood Beach:

  • Short Course - a brick session of structured bike/run intervals followed by open water swim/skills.
  • Long Course - a brick session, beginning with an open water swim/skills session followed by a structured run set.
  • Running - a structured interval run set.

6:30pm - TTT#4 - Open Water session at Elwood Beach.


Friday 26th January:

Australia Day Public Holiday - no coached sessions
But Ambassador Benny has organised a casual get together:
"Come join for an open water swim followed by only the finest fresh brewed coffee, great banter and company with some light refreshments!" Where: Port Melbourne Life Saving Club
When: 6:50am, in the water 7am
BYO something to share


Saturday 27th January:

6:30am - Long Course athletes - Long Ride towards Safety Beach. Check programs for distances.

Wear clothing appropriate to the conditions with Tri-Alliance riding gear mandatory.  All riders must be familiar with Tri-Alliance Bunch Riding and Cycling Etiquette policy: Road Cycling Tips - Tri-Alliance Triathlon Club Melbourne

6.45am - Short Course athletes - Combo session at Elwood Beach. An interval bike/run session with open water swim session at the end.

9:30am - Try the Tri #4 - Combo session. 
9:30am - Try the Tri #5 - Introduction session. 


Sunday 28th January:

7:00am - All athletes - Combo session at Elwood. Long swim/Long run combo.
Swim at Elwood Beach from 7am.
Run from Elwood Beach at 8am.
