IT'S RACE WEEK!

PXL_20221112_233609141

It’s a big edition, so grab a cuppa and buckle in…

We were thrilled with the performance of our athletes at Ironman 70.3 Melbourne recently.  We waited and anticipated the cyclonic weather, that came about 24hrs after the event, meaning the day was cherry ripe for racing!  We’ve got all the fine results below for you to read, plus an open letter from one of our newest athletes off the back of his first 70.3.

And just like that, we are about to kick off the local race season with the first race of the 2XU Tri Series this weekend in Elwood!  We’re looking forward to supporting you all out on course and can’t wait to see the Yellow & Blue army back in force (#beseeninthegear).  Be sure to read all the entry details below, plus the links for laces, the checklist, and the all-important call out for Tri Kids helpers!  Saturday morning we’ll have a race recon at 7am, followed by tent duties and Tips and Tricks during the day.  Any help you can provide to any of the above will be much appreciated – many hands make light work!

Fortunately, and unfortunately, FINA are hosting the World Swimming Champs at MSAC in December.  It’ll be great to be able to get along to our home pool to witness first-class swimming.  But this also means our sessions are going to be impacted ☹ Read below for all the details, and time to dust off the bands and get your wetsuits handy!

Want to improve your performance and maximise power and endurance?  You can achieve this with a Retul bike fit!  The new software is dynamic, it’s more personalised and fits have never been better.  Now is the time to get yours booked it.  We haven’t changed our prices since 2010, meaning they are well below industry prices.  There will be an increase in 2023, but you can take advantage if you hustle now.

And finally, let’s think social.  Let’s think festive.  Let’s think about letting our hair down with our tri buddies for a TA Xmas Party.  We’ve already heard the chitter-chatter than peeps are keen to make this a BIG one!  So, keep the date free and be sure you are there to avoid any form of FOMO.

Big week ahead.  Check the timetable.  Check in with your coaches.  And reach out if you need any support!

RACE RESULTS

Despite the onerous weather forecast, the luck favoured the athletes, and it turned out to be a cracking morning.  We had a great crew representing the TA flag; from first timers, some using the race as a step-through to Busso and those who bunched together to race in a team.  Lots of smiles, lots of happy coaches and lots of PBs – could you ask for anything more?

  • Fastest swim of the day went to Paul Martin in 32:32, just pipping out Liam.
  • Fastest bike split of the day went to Alan Viney, with a cool 35.54km/hr average.
  • Fastest run of the day went to Sebastien Chen in 1:34, closely followed by Super Mario with a 1:35 half marathon (must have been the pacing he got from the female winner - see above pic!).

Big congrats to all those who took part.  Completing a half ironman race is no small feat.  And this year had not been helped by the lack of swimming in the bay.  But you did it, and you lived to tell the tale.  We know there’s a lot more to come from all of you!

Check out all the results on the link below and a lovely open letter from one of our newest members, Igor 😊

TriKids
Friendly Faces Needed

The future stars of our crazy sport will be giving it their all on Sunday morning in the Tri Kids race.  We're looking for some friendly faces to come and give these little ones a hand.  It's super easy, they just need help with:
* lining up in their AGs
* walking to the start line
* being pointed in the right direction
* putting on tops, shorts, shoes (after the swim)
* racking and moving bikes
* encouragement to keep going
* smiles for miles and high 5s all round!

Meet at the TA Tent at 6:30am for briefing in transition at 6:40am.  The more the merrier.  Let's get around these gems of the sport!

MSAC INTERRUPTION

Make the Most of This Week!

The 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) will be held in December 2022 at MSAC. It will take place in the Outdoor Competition Pool and attract an international audience placing MSAC at the centre of the swimming world!  Very exciting!

But...
There will be no access to the outdoor pool from 28th November starting with event preparation, through pre-meet training and competition periods, reopening late December.  There will be limited access to the indoor pool, which will be set to 25m for current members only.

This means we only have 3 pool squad sessions left (this week), and then will not return until the new year.  We will be moving our sessions to the bay, to make up for lost time and get you all back in the groove of open water swimming!  In the event that water quality is not suitable for swimming, we will be running online band sessions.  Stay tuned for details.

We strongly encourage all athletes to keep swimming and working on technique, whether that be with the squad, in the bay or independently at another pool.  Session details will still be programmed and can be accessed through CoachingMate.

RETUL BIKE FIT

The Only Way to Ensure Efficiency

Why do you need a bike fit?  One word, PERFORMANCE.  Getting you into an optimal position on the bike will not only increase your comfort, but it will also maximize both power and endurance.

And a Retul bike fit generally has a reputation for being above average primarily because the infrared technology does a good job of measuring the rider in all three planes.

With the advanced Retul software up and running, these fits have never been better.  They are dynamic, personalized and come with a full guarantee.

Current prices have not changed since 2010, making us by far the most cost-effective service around.  From the beginning of 2023, the bike fit prices will be increasing.  So, if you have been thinking of getting it done, now is the time.

You'll need to secure a booking in December to take advantage:
Current member price $225 --> New member price $330
Current non-member price $295 --> New non-member price $440

These are still well under industry prices, and in our opinion, money well spent. Think about how long you are on the bike for in training and in your race.  Focusing on the 1%ers all adds up!
