Sunday was just magical! Yet another perfect morning for triathlon, and a half ironman at that! With no wind and mild conditions, we were expecting fast times and they didn’t disappoint. Super effort by all our crew out there, making their way through the familiar course with lots of support from the sidelines. We had 5 athletes break the 5hr mark, 5 athletes clock just over the 5 hrs, 3 female athletes finish 4th in their AGs, lots of PBs (overall and individual disciplines), and many using it as an important stepping stone on their way to even longer races soon! Our biggest congrats to all those who came, saw and conquered Ironman 70.3 Melbourne. Dan Godino – 4:30:01 Scott D’Aucourt – 4:45:23 Alan Viney – 4:46:41 Beau Pinsent – 4:48:59 Dan Brueckner 4:57:48 Sebastian Chen – 5:01:43 Ian Carter – 5:03:03 Rachel Madden – 5:04:04 (4th place) Slaine O’Sullivan – 5:05:01 (4th place) Paul Martin – 5:05:16 Enrique Valenzuela – 5:28:52 Chaya Tiktin – 5:38:19 (4th place) Andy Wood-Rich – 5:40:55 Juliet Cooper – 5:55:22
And as we turn our attention to yet another race weekend, this Sunday will see the final race of the 2XU series take place in St Kilda. And dare we say it…the forecast is looking brilliant once again, so it would be a perfect morning to get involved. There are loads of events and distances to choose from and we’ll have athletes in all of them. We’re also expecting to see many of you on the podium and don’t forget there will also be the Series podiums, so hang around to collect those medals too! It’ll be a big day (weekend), so we are looking for TA Family support with the following: - Tent set up (Saturday)
- Kids race helpers (approx. 10.30am Sunday)
- BBQ cookers (approx. 10am onwards Sunday)
- Tent pack down (approx. 11.30am Sunday)
There’s more details below, but many hands make light work and it would be great to have the support. This is the last event for a while, so if you’ve been meaning to lend a hand or always wanted to help the kids, or even just know how to turn on a BBQ or flip a sausage, then please reach out! We are also hoping to have some after after celebration drinks to round out the SC season and say CHEERS to you all. Finer details to come, but it’ll be around 4ish and we are looking to books some space in St Kilda (likely Newmarket Hotel). As soon as this is confirmed I will spread the word. If you haven’t heard from me, then get in touch and I’ll let you know.
Following this final race, there will be no swim session at MSAC on Monday 28th March. There is an event in the evening and, therefore lane space was unavailable. We think after all your efforts you deserve the night off, so take it as a Tri-Alliance public holiday!
Another exciting event to celebrate the end of season is our annual par-tay! Please keep Saturday 14th May free for our shindig. Again, once the venue has confirmed I will share the details, but feel free to start dusting off the dancing shoes and planning your outfits. We are ready to let our hair down!
For those of you not done with racing, or participating, just yet, we have secured a discount for anyone interested in having a go at The Great Ocean & Otway Classic Ride. It’s happening on the 30th April and you’ll get a 15% discount off your entry as an Annual Member. Head to their website to read all the event details.
And speaking of racing, I must apologize to Michael Swaney for missing him off the Shepparton results list last week! He gutsed it out in hot conditions to complete his day in 6:44:56. Well done, Michael. Super effort!
Ok team, let’s finish this off strong. Can’t wait to see you all out there on Sunday, giving it your all. We are expecting lots of ugly finish line photos…..coz if you look too good, you haven’t gone hard enough! |
