The 2XU Triathlon Series kicked off on the weekend and in the words of Head Coach Ollie, “the event has never been this good in the 15 or so years that Tri-Alliance has been involved” – wow! We are so excited and happy for Jordan, Kane and their small team who started O2 Events in order to keep the series alive. Not only have they kept it alive, they have made it bigger and better than ever! We are also equally excited to be a part of it, along with our partners Orca, Lakeside Sports Medicine, Giant Ormond, On and Garmin. With Race 1 done and dusted, it’s only going to get better from here…and so too is the weather…we hope!
They say Melbourne has four seasons in one day, but we had four seasons in the space of about an hour for Race 1 on Sunday! The poor kids and fun tri athletes had to battle their way through what could have easily been mistaken for a surf beach, with some bonus rain and wind! Whilst the rain had passed and the wind somewhat calmed in time for the sprint, there was still decent chop for swimmers to navigate before battling what felt like a headwind each and every way on the bike, but then the sun poked through the clouds like nothing had ever happened just in time for the run. Congratulations to all athletes who raced, and to those who came to support.
A huge shout out goes to Mary, Laetitia and Sandra who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, and Adrian who came 1st, all in their FIRST EVER triathlon!! And to Jen for her 3rd place in the Fun Tri. These five are graduates of Try the Tri #1 for the season and we think they may just be hooked! Congrats to Juliet Forsyth, Anthony Cuzzupe, Michael Grey and Jasper Wijnands for their podium finishes. Another huge congratulations goes to Steve Mudler who ran the whole 5km of his sprint distance race, and to Baz who after finishing his own race, went back out and ran the last 1km with Steve - this is the true spirit of both triathlon and Tri-Alliance, it’s not all about podiums but about striving to reach goals we never thought possible and supporting each other to do so. #allthewarmfuzzies Follow the link below for a full list of results.
We can’t wait for Race 2 in Sandringham in just 3 weeks. But in the meantime, we have Western Sydney 70.3 athletes to cheer on this weekend (Go Oli, Dan and Andy), Busso athletes to get behind in their final push, Ambassadors to nominate and a Christmas Party to get excited for!
