WEEKLY TRANSITION
20th MAY 2020 – SWIM, BIKE, RUN, READ

It's the weekly read that everyone waits for!
Stay up to date with all the latest news, hear from athletes, find weekly specials and get the lowdown on all important weekend sessions

MAKING THE MOST OF IT

social-distance-riding

Didn’t the weather turn it on for the weekend, which was a welcome relief for those wanting to get out and about and treat themselves (and their bikes) to a bit of TLC.  Great to see and hear our athletes respecting the safe hygiene practices and looking out for each other.  Keep it up team and above all else, stay well!

If you have a bit of extra time at the moment (and let’s face it – who doesn’t?), then it's never been a better time to get to know your bike. Whether you're fixing your first flat, need bike storage ideas (read: make space for more bikes!) or tips for riding in the rain...Liv's bike maintenance and repair guides (see below) have you covered.

We’re excited to be bringing back the group run sessions this week, for those looking to join others in pounding the pavement.  Although, I have to say we’re not so excited about that forecast!  Can you believe yet another Thursday night with less than ideal conditions….WTH is with that?  Remember that we will strictly abide by all government restrictions and sessions will be limited to 10 participants, so read details below about bookings.  There are two separate locations on Thursday night - make sure you read the timetable for exact details.  And if group sessions are not for you, yet…you can still Go Virtual during the session times and link up with the coaches.  6.15pm for Thursday nights and 8am on Sunday mornings.

We've had so much fun getting to know the TA Family, and with our little enforced 'break' from each other, now is the perfect time to remind us all how amazing our athletes are!  It is most fitting this week to get to know one of our current Ambassadors, Andrea.

And with heavy hearts, we learnt about the passing of a former TA athlete and current MPTC athlete, Carly Marsh.  Many of you will have known Carly who was part of our Try the Tri program early in her triathlon journey and was later joined on the start line by her mother, Danielle. Carly’s friendly nature and committed approach to getting it just right (particularly when working with determination in the open water) was well-known around the squad.  Our thoughts are with Carly’s family and friends and also Mornington Peninsula Triathlon Club, who have lost someone very dear to them.

And finally, a quick shoutout to The General for running a great Goal Setting session last week.  We have no doubt the over 30 athletes who attended all took away some great insights, tips and homework to put them on the path to success.  The video will be available shortly to watch the replay.  Just let us know you’d like a copy and will send it out when it’s ready.

GROUP RUN SESSIONS

tri-alliance-running
The Journey Starts One Step At a Time

We are excited to be re-introducing our group runs this week, as we believe these sessions can be facilitated safely and responsibly, following recent government guidelines.

Thursday night interval sessions have two separate locations at Albert Park Lake (short & long course) and Sunday morning long runs will leave from MSAC and Fairfield.  Check the timetable for exact meeting locations.

These sessions are strictly bookings only and capped at 10 participants per session.  You cannot turn up to the session without making a booking.

All athletes must:

  • maintain physical distancing by keeping at least 1.5 metres between you and another person
  • carry and care for all personal belongings, including water bottles
  • cover mouths and noses if coughing or sneezing
  • not attend if feeling unwell

Please book your spot through the online timetable.  You still have the option to GO Virtual for all run sessions, via the link in your program.

RIDING OUTDOORS

Know the Rules

As we are not encouraging group ride sessions at this stage, we still want to remind you about the following guidelines you should be following if choosing to ride outdoors with others.

Cycling Victoria recently sent out communication advising against bunch riding:

As we all know, bunch riding is safest when it is a tight, cohesive and continuous cycling unit, this cannot be achieved under the current social distancing guidelines of 1.5 metres.

To adhere to the 1.5m social distancing rule, you would need to ride in single file.  This could be problematic on busy roads, where mass cyclists could open up groups to drop ins, tag alongs, unsafe manoeuvrers and potential breakings of guidelines.

Vic Road Laws also state that cyclists should not be more than 1.5m apart when riding two abreast.

Cycling Victoria also strongly recommends that all cyclists download the COVIDsafe App to help play our role in minimising the spread of COVID-19, look after our community and speed up the easing of government restrictions so we can get back to doing what we love quicker.

Tri-Alliance was very sad to learn of Carly's passing last week and we send our deepest condolences to her family.

Carly started her triathlon journey in our Try the Tri program and many of you will have known her for her smiling face, her friendly personality and her committed approach to her training and racing.

Our thoughts are also with Mornington Peninsula Triathlon Club who have lost an important member of their team 💙
