THE HOME STRETCH

tri-alliance-portarlington-pre-race

That’s 5 down and only 1 to go for the 2XU Triathlon Series and what an eventful weekend it turned out to be - for all the right reasons! The sun was shinning, the water was flat and the wind was light - it really doesn't get much better than Sunday's conditions for a triathlon.  56 TA athletes zipped around the course and we bagged a stack of podiums (and points) to boot!  Make sure you read the Weekend Highlight to get all the details from Portarlington and our athletes who headed north for the Moo Tri.

In this edition, we announce the EOSP venue (eeep..so excited!), detail important housekeeping matters (time changes, windtrainer sessions, cancelled swim session), offer a sweat testing opportunity to our LC athletes, share a great initiative from Bicycle Network about building awareness of the relationship between drivers of heavy vehicles and bike riders and much more!

HOUSEKEEPING

Good Morning Sunshine

The nights are getting longer and the mornings are certainly getting darker.  So now it a timely reminder to change some of our summer habits and get ready for the inevitable winter!

  • Sunday morning OW swim sessions will now start at 7:30am, followed by the run at 8:30am.  Please note: your run session is your priority.  If anything needs to be sacrificed/shortened, it is NOT your run.  Amend your swim if need be, but run volume and intensity should be as per your program.
  • Lights - athletes will not be able to join group ride sessions unless you have front and back lights.  And we don't mean little button lights.  We mean proper, bright, see from a mile, shine the way kind of lights.  These will get more and more important as we enter the cooler (rainy) months
TESTING TIMES

Know Your Levels

Do you have a low, moderate or high concentration of sodium in your sweat? Do you know how much sodium you lose in your sweat? Did you know that the sodium concentration in an individuals sweat can range from as low as 300 mg to as high as 3000 mg of sodium per one litre of sweat?

Well, no better time for our long course athletes to get some answers to provide you with the confidence to get you through your race in peak condition.  We’ll be offering a Sweat Testing opportunity during our next wind trainer session at MSAC.  This will help you learn the sodium concentration of your sweat – and by knowing how much you lose, you’ll know how much you need to replace!
WHEN: Tuesday 26th March
6pm - 8pm

To register your interest please send an email to Bondy, who will send out further information surround this event.

Swapping Seats

Bicycle Network’s Swapping Seats awareness campaign is part of a wider program of engagement that includes the activities of the Amy Gillett Foundation.

Swapping Seats
sets out to raise awareness about where and how people who walk and ride should position themselves around trucks and heavy vehicles.

Bike riders at Around the Bay were invited to step up into a truck and sit in the driver’s seat. Riders where then asked to look in the mirrors as a bike rider moved around the truck.

The aim of the campaign is to build a positive relationship between the drivers of heavy vehicles and bike riders by showing people just how little a driver can see at an intersection.

SWIM SQUAD SESSIONS

Which One is Best For Me?

We have a great swim program, with multiple sessions available to all athletes.  Due to the popularity and lane availability at venues, we need to ensure we have all athletes swimming at the time and venue that is best suited to their needs.  Therefore, we thought it was a good time to revisit our swim squad criteria to help athletes grade themselves into the correct ability groups, encourage them to learn the developmental continuum of swim levels and understand why/what will best benefit them as an athlete in their progression to improve.  Please take the time to review these, as well as our Pool Swimming Etiquette guide.  From beginners to our advanced athletes, we want to ensure every swimmer has a great swim, maintains their confidence and correct technique.  So do your best to observe and follow the pool rules.

WIND TRAINER SESSIONS

wind-trainer-skewer-2
Let's Get Organised

Friendly reminder, windtrainer sessions are very busy! Firstly, you need to get there in plenty of time to set up and be ready to ride at 6.15pm. Secondly, due to high numbers, there are not always enough windtrainers to go around. Athletes who have their own windtrainer are encouraged to bring them along to sessions and if you have been thinking about getting one, now might be the time to do it! If you’re looking for a secondhand windtrainer or if you have any questions, send an email to [email protected]

We also have a whole bunch of NEW skewers (on order - we sold out too quickly so be patient while the new ones come in) - for sale only.  Existing athletes need to ensure they have the correct skewer to attend wind trainer sessions going forward.  You can purchase these from us at session with cash or card, or you can pre-purchase on the Tri Shop website prior to the session commencing.  Cost $10.
