IRONMAN HITS G TOWN

Aside from a few sea urchins modifying the swim start, you could not have wished for better racing conditions, than those that were dished out at Geelong Ironman 70.3 on Sunday.  Calm waters, still air, sunshine and plenty of cheers greeted all athletes that took on the course.  We had 21 individuals and 2 teams competing and equally as many supporters who made their way down to G-town to show their love for the yellow and blue!  Read our weekend highlights for all the details of these amazing athletes, but we had some stand out performances that simply must be mentioned: Trent showed everyone how to run, with a *blistering* 1:19 off the bike and the 3rd fastest AG run of the day (faster than some of the pros too!), Fish (Anthony) had a ripping swim coming away with 3rd fastest in AG and a solid 4hr30 performance earning him 4th place, and Phil went right on the line with 5:00:03.  The old blokes had a great day out too, with Baz and Mr Bond both finishing 5th and Jules storming home to finish in 9th!  Holy Moly what a day!!!

Also in this edition: our rev up for the 2XU series Club Championship, learning how to understand training zones, the ins and outs of CoachingMate, the latest edition of the G Files, a schedule of road closures for APL (yes, I have the right year this week!), an update form Orca, the review of the new EnviLiv and the all important weekend training sessions.

Let's Dig Deep & Keep Fighting

Did you hear the exciting news!!!  Tri-Alliance is sitting on TOP of the leader board after 3 races of the 2XU series!!!! Woo Hoo....How bloody awesome.  That's a hats off and a pat on the back to ALL our wonderful athletes who have contributed with their blood, sweat and tears (but mostly with gritty smiles) to make this our BEST season yet.
BUT....we're only half way through and we're not ready to rest on our laurels just yet.  Plus....ever heard of Tall Poppy...yah...we know it's a massive target and rightly so, but that's only going to make us dig deeper and try harder, right?
It's close...and I mean, real close!
SO...we wanna see EVERYONE signed up to the last 2 races to help bring home the bacon.  That's right, WE NEED YOU.

C'mon, get behind the amazing TA spirit and BRING IT HOME!

HEART RATE TRAINING

Are you in the Zone?
We've been talking about this a lot at sessions recently, but do you really know what zone you are in and why?

Training Zones in your program are the most important part in improving athlete performance. Each training zone represents a training load that will induce specific training adaptations in the body. In order for an athlete to improve his/her performance – these zones must be adhered to wherever possible. Changes in training zones on your program represent the need to improve and adapt to new and higher level of performance. Training zones are very unique and vary with each individual. Age can be very general guide to ranges although the common mistake made is that the higher the heart rate the better the training – this is not the case, especially with endurance athletes. Hit the link to see an outline of each training zone, the training load, and why it is used to improve your performance, as well as a detailed description of each zone.

The Truth Is Not Out There

"So, if you think you’re starting to get a handle on what makes me tick, let me know, cause I certainly have no idea!   Anyway, two questions for you to ponder as you read further!
1) Why is it that as soon as they lay a new section of road, they immediately start digging holes in it?

2) How do fish know that they look like another fish? So, there’s a fish swimming along and it sees a school of fish all exactly the same and thinks to itself,” I might join in with them cause I’m the same”.

I have lots of these conundrums which I occasionally pose to the LC Windtrainer people, but so far their answers have been underwhelming!"
