THE SWEET SMELL OF THE OFF-SEASON

tri-alliance-coffee-ride

So how's the first week of off-season treating you all?  Not quite sure what to do with yourselves yet?  Having a bit of FOMO from not collecting data?  Still a bit weirded out with the lack of structure and tight training regime?  Perfect.....It's good for you!  It's time to switch that focus and think about the rest and rebuild.  Calm the farm peeps, it won't be long before we are all back at it and wondering where our off-season went.  And if you have had a bit of down time (or like me have been in a little hiatus from racing), now is the perfect time to get back to it.  It's all starting again with the building blocks, so what better time to take the leap.  Don't miss the boat now and be forever playing catch up during the season.

This week we want to send a HUGE good luck and best racing wishes to two of our athletes this weekend.  Andy Wood-Rich will be taking on the full Ironman distance in Port Macquarie and Richard May tackling the 70.3 distance in Busselton, WA.  Andy will wear #247 @ironmanoceania and will be lining up for the 8th time at the full distance over five years.  Richard will get to try out the new swim course and will also be on the ground for an exciting Mizuno announcement (THE ALL NEW WAVE SKY 2 TRI)!!!!

Also in this edition, Steph shares some interesting articles of making the most of recovery time, I've put together a go-to guide of what to wear when cycling in Winter, there's an explanation of what current training sessions are on and why, there's camp details, and GIANT have had their Propel Advanced Disc awarded as the best Aero Bike of the Year by UK based publication Cycling Plus.  But let's be honest - all attention this week is on the End of Season PARTY!  Make sure you cast your votes for the acclaimed athlete awards.  It's closing Thursday!

Find your comfy corner, put on the blinkers and immerse yourself in this week's edition....read on!

Recovery is often the hardest part of our training, yet is arguably the most important! We have officially started our month of recovery for short course athletes and for the vast majority of our long course too. For all of you who are currently in #struggletown, I'm sharing some articles I've read that you may find useful in coming to terms with the importance of recovery.

Life is Short...Wear Your Party Pants!
Yep, still super duper excited about the EOS party, but now we're officially in party week so excitement levels are rising a tad!  Sorry for those who missed out, but hate to say we told you so!

For those who are coming, check your inboxes.  We've sent an email with our final thoughts which has EVERYTHING you need to know!  All you need to do is get your outfit sorted, book in that spray tan, polish off the dancing shoes and get ready for one hell of a night. Oh and don't forget to vote for our athlete awards.  It's super important to have your say.  Voting closes Thursday so be quick!

Let's all count it down to our final A-race this season!!!!!

How Can I Ride When It's So Cold?!?

“There’s no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing choices.”

When you’re riding on a cold, wet and windy day, you want to be as warm and as comfortable as you can. This is a guide for those new to Winter riding, to help you avoid learning from a very cold and miserable experience of your own!

So What Happens Now?
Now that the race season has come to an end (finally!), we can experience what's left of Fat April and a teeny bit of Merry May.  This is a time to wind yourselves back, rest the body and the mind and clean the canvass of all fatigue, injuries and niggles, ready for the first phase of the off season.  This is reflected in our timetable with no Tuesday morning runs and Thursday morning Hot Laps.  Please understand, during the next phase we will be breaking down your swim, bike run skills and rebuilding you from the ground up, by introducing drills, improving your technique and getting rid of bad habits to help your efficiency and form, ultimately making you a faster athlete leading into the race season.  If you ignore the coaches advice now, you WILL burn out by September.  So put away the FOMO, those morning sessions will be back before you know it, when we jump into the strength block post Lorne Camp (Queen's Bday Weekend).

Also note, Thursday night run sessions will commence at The Tan next week (10th May), so stay tuned for more details.
TRAINING CAMPS

Triathlon Training Camp
Hard Work & Training - No Secret Formula

One of the best things to do over winter is to get strong!  And one of the best ways to do it is with an intensive hit-out at one of our camps!  You get to surround yourself with like-minded people, live and train like a pro and forget about all the other worries of the world while you eat, sleep, train, repeat!  We've got 2 camps coming up - Lorne Camp on the Queen's Birthday long weekend and Thanyapura Thailand Camp at the end of July.  More information to come, but time to start thinking about how you'll make gains this winter and #GainTheEdge

Giant Bicycles Australia

UK based publication Cycling Plus award the Propel Advanced Disc as the best Aero Bike of the Year!

The in-depth review details development process of the new Propel Advanced Disc and explains why this composite aero racer stands above the competition: “The new Propel is the result of three years of development, with Giant focusing on having the best weight ratio of any aero bike, and has been designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel work to be adept in adverse wind conditions.”
