WEEKLY TRANSITION
19th MAY 2021 – SWIM, BIKE, RUN, READ

It's the weekly read that everyone waits for!
Stay up to date with all the latest news, hear from athletes, find weekly specials and get the lowdown on all important weekend sessions

ta-st-kilda-racing-girls

I have to start this week by sharing one of the funniest emails I have received in a long time!  It came about a minute after the newsletter had been distributed last week.  I immediately thought, “Uh oh…this can’t be good news…brace yourself, Bondy”.  But I was wrong.  I instead had a genuine LOL moment, and it turned my day around.  So this, from one of our more senior male members of the TA Family, in response to me apologizing for mucking up the swim squad session last week:

"No need to apologise for Monday.

I joined in and came 8th in the girls under 12 backstroke.

 So, winner!"

So good!  We all need to remember not to take ourselves so seriously all the time and that laughter really is good for the soul!

In saying that, who’s up for a whole night of laughter and good times (me..me..me!!!)?  Well, it’s finally here.  The long-awaited End of Season Party…That Almost Didn’t Happen (that’s its official title).  We really wanted the opportunity to have as many TA Family members in the one place and the one time to celebrate everyone for getting through the last year and to let our hair down a little with our tri-buddies, who have been there every step of the way.  The good news about the timing means we can also have all our long course athletes join us!  It’ll be a cocktail party, with loads of finger foods, drinks at bar prices and everyone is welcome (including partners).  Stay for as much of the night that suits you and bring your dancing shoes.  Details and rsvp below.  Tickets go on sale next week.

In sticking with the celebrations and good vibes, it was great to see so many out over the weekend participating/racing in events.  Coach Steph and Rach took to Race 2 of the Southern Masters Cycling Club FulGaz Road Race Series. It was at Crib Point and by all reports it looks like they both had a great (and successful) day out!  In the series there is one race each month, from April to Nov.  If this sounds like a bit fun to you, then reach out to Coach Steph to get some more info and get involved.

Also over the weekend was The Great Ocean Road Running Festival.  There was a whole host of events (ultra, marathon, half mara, 14km, 6km, 1.5km, 13km train, 6.5km trail and walk) and conditions look good.  Results are still rolling in, but well done to everyone who took part in their chosen distance.  It must have felt good to finally be able to put that training and fitness into action and you should all be really happy with your results.  A little shoutout to Johnny Noel who completed the half marathon in 1:28:57, coming 5th in his Age Group!

Quick couple of notes about running to finish off: run sessions remain the same this week.  There’ll be the two options on Thursday night and a long run option from Fairfield on Sunday.  At The Tan this week, you will be greeted by Coach Steph.  Keep an eye out for her by The Pillars for a 6:15pm start (she’ll no doubt be all rugged up, but you won’t miss her smile).  And don’t let that smile fool you, she’s under strict instructions from the boss to make you work!

Oh, and all Lorne Camp attendees have been sent a link for a meeting tonight at 6pm with Ollie.  If you haven’t received your link, get in touch ASAP to make sure you don’t miss out!

PROGRAMS

Building Towards YOUR Goal

Now is a good time to make sure you are on the right path to your goal.  There’s no point following the crowd, if the crowd aren’t going to the same place you are!  For all those athletes gearing themselves up for Port Mac, IM Melb 70.3 or Busso, your build has started.  That means you should be on a Long Course program from now.  Those athletes gearing up for the 2XU Series, Noosa or any Sprint and Olympic distance races should be on Short Course programs.

This also has a direct impact on Saturday rides. You need to be riding the appropriate distances, with the same focus and with the right group.  LC riders only should be leaving at 6am and SC riders at 7am.

If you’re unsure, need a hand with switching over or want a chat about your goals, please get in touch with the coaches and will get you on the right path!

RUNNING SESSIONS

Fairfield Run Group
Two Sessions - Three Locations!

In case you haven't heard, it’s time to kick start our Thursday night run sessions.  Our winter run sessions are great for breaking down your stride, working on your technique and building strength from the ground up.  These sessions are for ALL athletes and will include technique, hills and interval running.

We will have two options.  Both sessions will have the same focus and follow the same training block and program details.

One will be held at The Tan, a track that goes around King's Domain and the Botanic Gardens.  We meet at 6:10pm next to the trough, opposite the Swan Street Bridge (you can also Google “Pillars of Wisdom” and it’s close to there).  Be ready to start the warm up at 6:15pm, otherwise you may miss the group.  It’s a good idea to bring appropriate layers as it can get quite chilly.

The other will be held northside by The General.  You can meet at the Essendon Rowing Club (Car Park) at 6:10pm for a 6:15pm start on a Thursday night, for a run session along the Maribyrnong River.

Everyone knows Sunday is Runday, and it's much easier (and more fun) to tick this off with your favourite training buddies.

This Sunday you can meet at the Fairfield Park Boathouse (Car Park) by 8:00am for a long run session. Come to these run sessions prepared for technique, functional strength and stretching activities....and the dulcet tones of The General!

Please see the timetable for further info, including meeting points.

HELPING VICTORIA STAY SAFE

tri-alliance-qr-scan-code
Victorian Government QR Code Service

Record keeping continues to be an important tool for helping Victoria stay safe and stay open.  All our athletes are scanned into each session by our coaches, and it is important to touch base with the team to ensure this has happened, particularly if you arrive late.

From the beginning of May, all venues and facilities are required to use The Victorian Government QR Code Service for record keeping.  This has been occurring at MSAC for some time and we ask all athletes to continue to ensure they are following this process each time they visit.

We have also obtained a Tri-Alliance QR Code (see above) for other sessions that will be made available for scanning.  Keeping records is to help with any future contact tracing that may be necessary in slowing the spread of COVID-19. You are only providing your name and a contact phone number, and records will be destroyed after 28 days, once the potential need for contact tracing has passed.

For more information on checking in with QR codes, please visit https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/QR-code-check-in
