RECOVERY MONTH

Another stellar latte ride on Saturday, with blue skies, good company and a surprise farmer’s market and Little O appearance at The Convent in Abbotsford.  This week will round out the latte rides for recovery month and again we’ll be getting out and about somewhere different.  There’ll be some ups and some downs and probably a bike path or two and there will definitely be a good old coffee stop along the way.  So, if you’re in the need of a social roll with some like-minded buddies then come along to the second last instalment of the 2022 Tour de Latte!

Tell you who else is nearly done…our Long Course athletes!  Only 12 days until Ironman Australia takes place in Port Mac.  They have just completed their peak weekends and will enjoy slightly reduced taper sessions this weekend before making the trip north.  If you are around this week, we strongly encourage you to get along to a session to show them your support.

And there’s one athlete in particular that we are highlighting this week as one to get around, and that’s Angus.  He’s set himself the challenge of training for and completing a 70.3 to raise awareness and funds for Beyond Blue, to support all those struggling with and effected by mental illness.  Angus’ race simulation is coming one week ahead of the others, having missed out on a spot in the race.  So he’ll be keeping things a little closer to home, which is good news for all of us as we can be there to support and cheer him on.  Please read the details below, including how you can donate and if you’re not going away this long weekend and can make it down to Elwood or Albert Park Lake on Sunday, then please do!

As the cooler weather sets in, what a great time to start thinking about following the sun….and heading to Thailand!  Our Thanyapura camp is on again this year after a small hiatus due to covid.  For 10 days between July 29 – August 7 you can live and breathe the life of a professional triathlete in the ultimate sports and health resort.   Details are below and bookings are now open.  If you’ve ever wanted to take your performance to the next level, then this is one opportunity not to miss.  Deposits are required to reserve your spot and a conversation with the Head Coach first is a must.

Enjoy the read and enjoy the week (and another long weekend) ahead.  We trust you have taken on board the advice to enjoy Recovery Month and take the foot off the pedal a little.  Couple more weeks to go, before we step into the next phase of training, technique from the 2nd of May.

Save the Date

We are planning on hosting our End of Season party on May 7th this year.  It is one of the biggest social events on our calendar and gives us the opportunity to come together as a whole squad to celebrate the achievements on us all, individually and collectively.

We'd love for you to join us, so keep this date free.  More details to come, but safe to say you can start planning your outfits now which should most definitely include dancing shoes!

Angus' 70.3 for Mental Health

Most of you will know Angus, plenty of you will have seen him around and many of you would have caught a glimpse of his journey in our Insta Stories recently.  That's because this young many has been preparing himself to tackle his first 70.3, all for a good cause.

"Mental Health is something that effects every one of us. I have dealt with metal health struggles throughout my life, adding to this the impacts that recent COVID lockdowns and this pandemic has been very tough for me. I know I’m not alone on my journey.
Running, riding, gym and starting my fitness journey over isolation has been my outlet. It has well and truly changed my life and helped me battle and conquer negative thoughts in my head. Fitness has made me a stronger and healthier person, not only with my physical health but improved mental health."

This Sunday (24th April), Angus will be completing a 70.3 to raise money for Beyond Blue to help those with their mental health needs. His original plan of participating in Port Mac was derailed when it sold out, but this hasn't stopped him.  That's why we will be showing our support for Angus this Sunday and are encouraging you to also get around him!

DETAILS:
Angus will swim 1.9kms at Elwood Beach at 7am.
From there, he will transition and ride to Albert Park Lake to complete the rest of his ride (16 laps).
T2 will be at Lakeside car park (outside the VIS) and from there he will complete the 21.1km run around the lake (4 laps).

To raise awareness for the importance of mental health, I will aim to raise $2,500, with all donations going to Beyond Blue Limited so they can continue their lifechanging work. Beyond Blue believe in growing a mentally healthy generation and I feel more work needs to be done help support them. I’m asking for your help to achieve my goal.

Please use the link below if you would like to contribute to make a difference to this life changing cause that means so much to many across Australia.

FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH TRAINING
Resistance-Bands
Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are simply a tool that helps you replicate any functional movement, while applying strength-enhancing, muscle-building resistance. As a result, resistance band training will make movements and muscles stronger while simultaneously improving movement coordination.

But...now you need to know where to get your hands on them.  You can check them out on eBay or anywhere really.  Even better if you can find suppliers offering deals for 2 sets (highly recommended as 1 set is only 1 length and you need double to do both arms at the same time).

It doesn't matter where you get your bands from - just make sure they have different tensions (colours) and MUST come with handles.  Shop around!
