UNCHARTED WATERS

What a world we are living in right now! You have all been receiving regular communication and updates, via emails and on our social media channels, in regards to our response to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Victoria. As you are aware, the situation is evolving regularly and rapidly and we will continue to be open and prompt with our updates and communications, particularly in regards to any changes to sessions.

In uncertain times like these, we must remain positive and strong together (but 1.5metres apart) and maintain a sense of normalcy and routine wherever, and however, possible. Which means, we can’t miss the newsletter! Apologies for the slight delay this week but we have put together a great issue with lots of things to think about and focus on in this period of social distancing and isolation.

It is incredibly disappointing to have races cancelled and the season plucked out from under your feet but with every negative comes many positives. We now have the opportunity to REST and RECOVER, and the best athletes know exactly how important this is! At the same time as this, we have extra time to PLAN our GOALS and what we want to work on. We then get opportunity to work on our TECHNIQUE and STRENGTH so that when the madness is over and races return to the calendar we are stronger, more efficient and ultimately, faster than we have ever been before!

Not to mention how much you will appreciate the opportunity to train and race again! The choice is yours, things will look a bit different to how they have before, but you can choose for it to be dream over, or choose to make the most of a difficult situation, and choose to use this challenging time as fuel for the fire.

So with a bit of extra time for reading, we have put together some of our favourite articles and info for you to make sure you know how to look after yourself from a triathlete’s perspective. We hope this is a welcome distraction from the social media vortex it is too easy to get stuck in at times like this, read on and stay well!

REST AND RECOVER

lakeside-logo_600x300

There’s never been a better time to visit our friends at Lakeside Sports Medicine. Make the most of the opportinity to pay attention to any niggles, rehab old injuries, strengthen your weaknesses and touch base with your physio to put a plan in place to come back stronger.

Lakeside are running as normal, except with extra cleaning processes in place to ensure the health and wellbeing of all of their patients, and their staff, and a new skype consultation option!

The same policy applies to visiting Lakeside Sports Medicine as applies to our training sessions, if you are displaying symptoms, have been overseas recently, or been in contact with a person with a positive CoVID – 19 you must stay at home (self-quarantine) for 14 days and not visit the clinic.

Visit the link below for more information, and to book your appointment.

Training & Your Immune System

Still on the topic of rest and recovery...most of us lead very fit and healthy lifestyles which we all know is good for us, and hopefully means we are in a better place to fight illness.

But did you know we can sometimes be stressing our bodies too much, which is actually taxing on our immune system?

Learn more by reading this article, what it means and how you can make sure you’re staying active and healthy but without compromising your immune system.

You are what you eat, and what you consume also has an impact on your immunity so we thought we would re-share this great article with some nutrition advice for boosting immunity.

PLANNING & GOALS

Cancelled Races?

Over the coming weeks we will share our tips on planning, as well as run a number of goal setting sessions - whether this is done in person (all 1.5 metres apart), or virtually. More info to come so stay tuned.

For now, take some time to read these articles about how to mentally adjust to cancelled or postponed events.

TECHNIQUE AND STRENGTH

Build a Solid Foundation

Throughout this process, it is important to remain active whenever, wherever and however possible. This may mean that the number of strength sessions will need to increase, whilst also providing an opportunity for working on a weakness (or aspect of training you neglect) like flexibility (Les) or technique that you normally skip over. Splits competition anyone?

Following on from our recovering and planning phases, we will then start on our technique phase. There is more information to come on this, and as things are changing at such a rapid rate, there is no way to know exactly how this will look in a month’s time but know that we are planning and will keep you informed. In the meantime, make sure you are across the training phases:

GET OUT YOUR DIARY

eosp-2020-postponed

Sadly, this one falls under the category of a non-essential gather over 100ppl....despite how essential we think it is!

So hold that excitment until we are in a better positiion to come together as a squad and truly celebrate.

Farewelling Friends From A Far

In the context of the current climate, Jeff and Dorothee have made the decision that their farewell drinks, scheduled for this Friday night, will be cancelled.

We have thoroughly enjoyed having these two join our Tri-Alliance family over the past months and have spent much time getting to know these incredible humans.

We wish them all the very best in their return home.  A safe and healthy couple of months ahead.  And will keep our fingers and toes crossed that Dorothee will complete her Kona dream!
