BACK TO RACING

summer-racing

The 2021 2XU Triathlon Series kicked off on the weekend and all we can say is (what everyone else is saying), “It’s good to be back racing again!”.  And despite the changes to the normal routine of a 2XU race day, the day went off superbly.  Thanks to everyone for following the guidelines, helping out with the tent and strangely enough to say it, but doing your bit by not being at the venue for supporting duties.  Hopefully that won’t be too far away.  Everyone handled the day perfectly and we hope that this means a lot more racing to come!

We had 43 athletes racing.  Well, we actually know there were more, but this is the official number linked to Tri-Alliance (if you didn’t get a chance to link up, it would be great if you could as we then get an accurate list of results).  And honestly, the day was all about just being out there and just getting back to normality.  But a couple of quick stats, nevertheless:

  • 5 x podiums
  • 18 x top 10’s
  • 2 athletes breaking 1hr20 in the Sprint
  • 1 athlete breaking 2hr10 in the Olympic
  • Some surprising PB’s
  • A couple of athletes returning after a long road back from injury
  • 1 athlete stepping out of the shadows to complete their first triathlon
  • Several athletes taking on new distances
  • A whole heap of happy athletes

Congratulations to all athletes who raced.  It’s not always about winning and places, there are many other milestones and accomplishments achieved during a race and along the way.  We want to acknowledge all of you, as we know what journey you’ve been on, we know what you are working on and we know what it means to you.  Sometimes “it’s not always about being the best.  It’s about being better than you were yesterday”.    Follow the link below for a full list of results.

In this week’s newsletter, we are also announcing our newest TA Ambassador, have some words of wisdom from The General, share an exciting opportunity to become part of the ON run crew program and have some speedy bike gear up for sale!

Enjoy the reprieve of Recovery Week and we can’t wait to see lots more of the blue & yellow for Race 2 in Sandringham in just 12 days time!!!!

TA AMBASSADOR

denise
Congratulations Denise!
We’re super pumped to announce that this lovely lady is joining our ambassador team for 2021. Denise is such a ray of sunshine to be around, always has time for a friendly check in with you and doesn’t mind a social occasion for a chat, coffee, wine....take your pick!

But don’t let that smile fool you. Underneath it, she is one fierce competitor and has been working her a*% off over 2020 and has come out the other end stronger than ever!

This season, Denise will be sharing her experience, supporting and encouraging fellow teammates, and leading by example with her positive and motivated attitude towards her training. We congratulate Denise on stepping up for this role and encourage you to seek her out if you need some support, advice or just want to chat all things triathlon!

Denise will join Les as out TA Ambassadors for this season.  Les has done an outstanding job already, but let's face it.....a year of lockdown during his reign meant we didn't get to see nearly enough of him!  Keep calm and carry on....Les has go this!
WORDS OF WISDOM

For the Long Course Athletes

Looking forward to the remainder of the week and the contrast in Weather compared to the weekend just gone. Temperatures are predicted to steadily rise with the likelihood of 30+ from Thursday onwards. Given we haven’t had a lot of warm/hot weather days, it is important to ensure that you are hydrating before your training sessions, not just during.

For most of you, it’s recovery week - you don’t want to jeopardise your recovery by being dehydrated going into sessions, even if they are less intensive than normal.

You will still be covering significant distances on the weekend, particularly those in their Geelong Build, so hydrating is important in the days leading into the weekend.

You should be conscious of your electrolyte intake, not just water. Start thinking about how you will carry your nutrition on Race Day and being self sufficient and ensure you practice during the weekend training. No excuses.

Coach Greg
