CONGRATULATIONS CAIRNS ATHLETES

ironman-cairns-athletes-swim-start

Ironman Cairns is done and dusted for another year, and conditions were as expected – tropical!  There was heat, there was rain, there was sun and the inevitable wind and humidity.  But we would expect nothing less.  This is one hell-uv-a race and it sorts the athletes out – that’s the point.  Ironman is hard.  It’s meant to be hard.  If it was easy, everyone would be doing it!

Tri-Alliance had 7 Ironman athletes racing, and another dozen in the 70.3 distance, with many of them tackling new distances for the first time.  We’ve loved hearing their battle stories (race recaps) from the day, and know the best way is to hear it straight from them.  So make sure you read the Weekend Wrap Up to check out all the details.
Also in the wrap up, is a great race report from Bumble Bee about the recent Rapid Ascent Trail Run out in Plenty Gorge that he and Andrea ticked off.  And there is also T.H.E cutest Insta Post of the Week that just melted my heart!

What else is done and dusted for another year is Lorne camp....but boy was this one a beauty.  If you've been at sessions this week, we hope we're all giving you massive FOMO, coz it was *THAT* good!  Stay tuned from a full wrap up in the coming weeks.
So... how’s your lets-escape-the-cold-weather planning going?  A trip to Thailand is just around the corner!  Our camp will not only be an incredible opportunity to take your training and racing to the next level, but also a life experience to treasure.  But there's only 3 spots left so you'll have to be quick!

Ok, straight back to reality and the sessions for this week.  We’re planning on heading out to the Dandenongs for our ride on Saturday.  If you are new to the squad, a beginner rider or a short course athlete, then your ride will begin from Wantirna Mall.  We will take you up to Sky High so bring plenty of warm layers, nutrition and spares to get through the day.  If you are a more advanced rider or a long course athlete, then your day will start slightly earlier from North Point Café.  Also heading out to the Dandenongs, come prepared to ride long and hard.  In saying all this, please keep a close eye on the VIC FB page later in the week as we monitor the weather.

Sticking with the sessions of the week, we’ve decided to be all social like and have a friendly catch up after our run session this week.  Please join us for a steak and a red wine after the Tan Run at the Arcadia Hotel, where we can unwind and have some time to chat, without trying to train (and breathe!) at the same time!  More details below.  And also a save the date for our upcoming Team Meeting!
Ok...certainly enough chit-chatting from me.  Just make sure you read through everything below to get across all the info.

Steak Night @ Arcadia Hotel
We're bringing back the Steak Night....YAY!  This Thursday, come and join us after our Tan run session to have some social time over a steak and a glass of red.  Arcadia Hotel is very used to athletes dropping by after training sessions, so just bring something warm, and as you can see from the pic, we go as we are.  Oh...did I mention they have $12 T-Bones on Thursdays????   We're looking forward to seeing lots of happy faces there!

How Do I Know What Shoe to Wear?

When you are in the market for new shoes it can be overwhelming to pick the right shoe for you. Advertising has an incredibly powerful impact on people’s decisions and can be the downfall for many injuries.

There are different types of shoes for different running purposes. Triathlon is already an expensive sport, but having 2 pairs of shoes can be justified.

TA Team Meeting

It's about time we got together to discuss everything that is going on in the squad, provide you with the latest info from our partners, outline where we are heading and help you to decide your goals for the upcoming season.  And no better place to do this than at a Tri Alliance Team Meeting.  Join us next Thursday 27th June at Elwood Sailing Club to catch up with all the coaches and your fellow athletes to talk all things triathlon.  We'll complete our active recovery run at Elwood from 6pm, with meeting from 7pm.  Bring some warm clothes and a bite to eat to tide you over.  We're looking forward to seeing lots of you there!

Return of the Double Days
It's started this week with the runs and the bikes are not far off.  It's time to get back to those early Tuesday and Thursday mornings, which will mean double days for many.  These key sessions help to build volume, strength and teach the body how to perform under fatigue.  If they are scheduled on your program, make sure you start getting along:
TUESDAY RUN - 6am from MSAC front entrance.  All levels welcome.
THURSDAY HOT LAPS - 5:45am from MSAC front entrance.  Intermediate/Advanced athletes only.  Must have confident bike handling skills, working front and rear lights, and Tri Alliance apparel is preferred (as popularity with other groups is growing and this will help keep us safe).
OFF SEASON GOALS

Off-Season-Gains
Your Best Tri Season Starts in the Off Season
"At the start of the offseason athletes will generally ask: “Where to from here?” and “How do I maintain fitness in the offseason?” Firstly, you need to look at your goals and what races you’re planning to compete in next season. The goal may be as simple as repeat the races you did this season but be faster or more competitive, or to step up to the next distance if you started with shorter events. But in order to improve, you must raise that bar."
